The Filoli Botanical Art Exhibit has long been an essential part of our Botanical Art Program’s mission to interpret and preserve this historically significant art form. Artists are invited to enter original artwork in any two-dimensional medium that reflects the rich tradition of botanical art and adheres to high standards of botanical accuracy and skilled use of media.

ELIGIBILITY
Botanical artists are invited to enter original artwork not previously exhibited in a Filoli botanical art exhibition in any two-dimensional medium that reflects the rich tradition of botanical art and adheres to high standards of botanical accuracy. Prints will not be accepted. All work will be juried using digital images.

DIGITAL IMAGE PROCEDURE
The entry process will be handled by www.OnlineJuriedShows.com. The website has many helpful features and will insure a smooth process for all parties. Entries may include up to three digital images, jpg format. Complete entry forms by clicking the link to
www.OnlineJuriedShows.com from our web site at www.filoli.org. The TITLE field on the entry form MUST contain both the Latin Name and the Common Name separated by a comma. For example: Lathyrus odoratus, Sweet Pea.

ENTERING YOUR IMAGES:
Entry form must be filled out in its entirety.  List sizes up to the nearest inch.  Submitted images must not include matting or frame.  Crop the photos to include only the artwork.  Be sure your images are right-side-up.

Before uploading your images, make sure they are smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi.  Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space.  Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at:  www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx.  If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please write to us here:  www.onlinejuriedshows.com/Contact.aspx.

FEES
There is a $35 entry fee for up to three images. It is crucial that your images be of the highest quality as they may be used for producing the exhibition postcard, the Filoli website and other promotional materials. Entry fees are non-refundable and must be paid by the entry deadline. The entry deadline is May 5.

JURY PROCEDURE
All art work will be juried using digital images. The exhibit jurors are Sharron O’Neil and Pat Jonas.  Criteria for acceptance will include botanical accuracy as well as artistic presentation and technical use of medium represented by a high quality digital image. Selection results will be e-mailed by June 2.

SALES
Filoli is pleased to extend the opportunity for participating artists to sell their exhibit piece(s) during the exhibition. All sales will be handled by Filoli and payment will be made to the artists, minus a 30% donation to Filoli, within 6 weeks after the exhibition. Artists may also list their artwork as NFS (not for sale). Detailed instructions will be sent upon acceptance.

RECEIVING ARTWORK
Artists whose work is accepted by the jurors will receive detailed instructions for shipping and hand delivery of artwork. The artist is responsible for all shipping and insurance costs. Artwork must be received by August 4 via carrier or August 7, 9–11 am on site.  

PRESENTATION OF ARTWORK
Maximum Frame Size    30” width x 36” height
Minimum Frame Size       8” width x 10” height

Selected entries must be:
•    Framed and ready to hang
•    NO sawtooths or projecting eye screws
•    Plexiglass required on all artwork
•    White or off-white mat colors
•    Simple gold or wood frames, no black or metal frames
•    Floating images are discouraged as they often ‘fall’ during shipment

Label the back of your artwork with your name, address, phone number, email, title of artwork, sales status and price. Titles MUST include the Latin name and the Common name of the plant portrayed.

Accepted entries that do not conform to the above presentation may be refused at the time of hanging.
