ART OF THE PASTEL 2017 - $1000 Best of Show Award

April 18 through May 21, 2017

 

Exhibition Details
There is nothing more spectacular than an entire room full of luminous vibrant pastel paintings.  The Pastel Society of Southeast Texas will hold its 2017 juried show in the beautiful Brazosport Art League Gallery at The Center for Arts & Sciences, 400 College Blvd, Clute TX 77531

Eligibility
•    Work must be in dry pastel only. No oil pastels. Mixed media must be predominantly (80%) dry pastel.
•    Work must be original, not copied from other artists or published photographs. Paintings done in school, in a school monitored studio, in a workshop or under instructor supervision are not acceptable.
•    All artwork must be originally drawn and not created on top of a base photo or print.
•    All work must have been created within the last two years and must be for sale.
•    Paintings of nudes may be considered for acceptance.
•    PSST reserves the right to exclude from exhibition any artwork deemed offensive, or any artwork that violates the laws of the United States or of state or local governments.
•    Painting size limit including frame: 48” in either direction.
•    Maximum of 3 entries per artist.  Paintings accepted into a prior Art of The Pastel exhibit are not eligible.
•    PSST reserves the right to reject delivered works selected for the exhibit that differ significantly from jpeg image.

Fees
Entry fee shall be paid through OnlineJuriedShows.com only.  Entry fees are non-refundable and must be paid by the entry deadline.
-The entry fee for up 2 paintings is $35 for PSST Members plus $10 for one extra entry.
-The entry fee for Non-Members is $45 for up to 2 paintings and $15 for one extra entry.

Entering Your Images
Entry form must be filled out in its entirety.  List sizes up to the nearest inch.  Submitted images must not include matting or frame.  Crop the photos to include only the artwork.  Be sure your images are right-side-up.

Before uploading your images, make sure they are smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi.  Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space.  Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at:  www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx.  If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please write to us here:  www.onlinejuriedshows.com/Contact.aspx

Jurors of Selection:

Lyn Diefenbach, PSA, IAPS-MC - The pursuit of masterly quality and technique is a high priority for Lyn whose work is imbued with a celebration of her faith and of life. Her paintings cover a myriad of subject matter, with her bold florals consistently receiving accolades nationally and internationally. Her ability to communicate her ideas has entrenched her as a respected and sought-after tutor, with teaching engagements internationally and across Australia. Lyn was accepted into the International Guild of Realism in May 2008 and holds Master Pastellist status with the Pastel Society of Australia. In 2014 she was awarded Master Circle in the International Association of Pastel Societies.  In 2016 Lyn achieved signature status with the Pastel Society of America, and in 2016 was the recipient of Pastelist of the Year with the Pastel Society of Australia. Lyn has been featured numerous times in the International Artist, Pastel Journal and the Australian Artist magazines. Sally Strand -  PSA, IAPS-MC -A native of Colorado now residing in California, Strand has been exhibiting professionally as an artist for over 35 years. Strand was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2007, the highest commendation of the Pastel Society of America, NY. She is the recipient of numerous top awards, including the PSA Master Pastelist distinction and the IAPS Master Circle Honor. Her solo exhibitions in galleries and museums include a one-person retrospective of pastel and oil paintings at the Bakersfield Museum of Art in California.  Widely published in books and magazines internationally, her work is also represented in many corporate and private collections. Strand studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago and at the Art Students League and National Academy of Design in New York. She earned a BFA degree from the University of Denver and an MFA from Laguna College of Art and Design. Barbara Jaenicke - PSA, IAPS-MC- Barbara received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1986 from The College of New Jersey, taking as many fine art courses as she could, while also taking painting classes outside of her college studies. But with the desire to have a steady income right after college, she geared her education toward the commercial side and spent a little over a decade of her early career in advertising as an art director, then later shifted gears to a corporate role in marketing communications. In 2002, she was able to turn her focus to a career in fine art, pursuing it full steam ahead, and continues to do so with stubborn determination. Barbara holds Signature Memberships in Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society and the Pastel Society of America, is a member of the International Association of Pastel Societies Master Circle, and is a popular workshop instructor throughout the US. After living in the Atlanta, Georgia area for 23 years, Barbara and her husband and son relocated in May of 2015 to Bend, Oregon. Primarily a landscape painter, she's excited to now explore and paint the scenery of the northwest part of the country.  View her website barbarajaenicke.com
Judge of Awards:

Lisa Ober - PSA will judge the show and present awards for Best of Show, Second Place, Third Place, Fourth and 2 Honorable Mentions.

Lisa Ober has been a professional pastel and oil painter for over 25 years. Collectors have recognized Lisa’s portraits and still life paintings for their exquisite realism and detail. She received her formal training at the School of Fine Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and began painting portraits professionally as a college student. She has since completed over a thousand commissions. Her most notable clients include CEOs of Fortune 100 companies, Supreme Court Justices, local, state and nationally elected officials, the Pope and other clergy, as well as a myriad of sports icons.  She is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and her work has been featured in publications such as The Pastel Journal. When she is not in her studio she travels as a pastel and oil workshop instructor, serves as a judge for art competitions, appears as a featured speaker and demonstrator in a variety of venues, and is actively involved in the St. Louis Artists’ Guild.

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE OR NON-ACCEPTANCE:  Artists will be notified of jury results by email sent March 8, 2017.  All original artwork accepted into the show shall be either hand-delivered or shipped to The Brazosport Art League Gallery at The Center for Arts & Sciences, 400 College Blvd, Clute, TX 77531.

Sales Exhibition Details
The Gallery shall receive a 20% commission.
No paintings may be removed from the gallery prior to May 21st. It is the artist's responsibility to deliver a painting to the buyer after the show concludes.

Art Delivery and Pick Up
Artwork accepted into the show shall be shipped in sturdy, reusable containers and shipped to:

Shipped works must arrive before April 15th; hand deliver artwork April 15th between noon and 4pm.  It is suggested to carry full insurance on shipped works. Paintings mailed to the Gallery must have a prepaid return postage label enclosed with painting.  It is not the Gallery’s responsibility to pay return postage.

Drop off Artwork. Last date for hand delivered artwork to be received:  Saturday, April 15, 2017 between noon and 4PM.  Artwork is to picked up on May 21st between 2pm and 5pm.

Awards – to be announced at the reception April 21st from 6pm to 8pm.
There will be cash prizes, ribbons and gift awards from our sponsors for Best of Show. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and two Honorable Mentions.
Best of Show $1000
Second Place $500
Third   Place $200
Fourth Place $150
Fifth    Place $100

PSST AWARD POINTS:
PSST will award one point to PSST members whose painting wins Best of Show or Second Place.  If the same Member receives both Best of Show and Second Place, that member is entitled to only one point. A non-member is not eligible to receive points toward PSST Signature Status.

February 26, 2017 – Close of registration
March 8th – Notice of acceptance will be sent
April 15th  – Shipped and hand delivered artwork must arrive before April 15th
April 18th – Exhibition open to Public
April 21st – Reception and Awards at The Brazosport Art League Gallery, 6pm – 8pm (Judge will be present)
May 21st – Last day of show.  Hand delivered artwork to be picked up between 2pm and 5pm.

Neither the PSST, their officers or members, nor The  Brazosport Art League Gallery or The Center for Arts & Science will be responsible for loss or damage of any artwork, no matter what the cause.   By submitting artwork to this exhibition, each artist agrees to this statement.   Artwork is not insured while in the possession of The Brazosport Art League Gallery at The Center for Arts & Science.

Responsibilities of the Artist: By entering the show, you agree that you have read and will abide by the rules outlined in this prospectus. If you enter the exhibit you agree that the artwork entered will be available for the exhibition.  If, after you submit your entry, you have the opportunity to sell the artwork and wish to take advantage of the opportunity, the proper course of action is to direct the sale to the gallery, or send the gallery 20% commission when you deliver the painting.   In either case, the artwork is required to hang in the exhibition.

Failure to send your artwork for exhibition after it has been accepted or failure to abide by any other rule or requirements in this prospectus will result in your disqualification for two years from future AOTP exhibitions. In addition, any artist who removes prior to the close of show a painting hung in the show shall be responsible for any applicable commission.  No substitutions of artwork will be allowed.
