Documents and Pictures
At Poway Center for the Performing Arts, Poway, California
February 1- February 28, 2016
Juried by: SDMAAG

Since the first cave paintings 40,000 years ago, humans have both documented and created reality through image-making. This theme runs through art history, whether we are talking about a 16th century still life or a collage created to express your love for Justin Trudeau.

Now we live in the Instagram era, which blurs the line between reality and pictorial fiction to a degree never before seen. A vacation snapshot is also a shoe advertisement and a carefully edited addition to the personal brand. This exhibition seeks to explore three tendencies: works that reflect reality, works that create fictions, and works that mediate the two.

We are seeking to mount a diverse show exploring every ramification of this theme in a wide variety of 2D media.

Please note that the venue has a “family friendly” censorship policy, which may require SDMAAG to place a drape over male genitalia.

The entry fee is $35.00 for one artwork and $10 for each additional artwork; SDMAAG member’s entry fee is $25 for one artwork and $5 for each additional work.  Limit 5 works per artist.  Entry fees are non-refundable and must be paid by the entry deadline.

Works must remain in the exhibition venue for the duration.  We encourage artists to offer works for sale. Though we do not charge a commission, a donation from sale proceeds is requested: 10% donation to SDMAAG, and 15% donation to the City of Poway.
