The 29th Juried Exhibition of the International Association of Pastel Societies will be exhibited on the IAPS website, www.iapspastel.org. This is an online exhibition only and no work will be shipped.
AWARDS: Prix de Pastel $2000, Gold $1000, Silver $600, Bronze $400, four Honorable Mentions $200, The Maggie Price Award of Excellence $500, and Founders Award $750
ENTRY DEADLINE: The entry form, digital image of work(s) to be submitted, and payment of the entry fee must be submitted to
www.OnlineJuriedShows.com no later than October 16, 2016.
ELIGIBILITY: Open to any artist who has an up-to-date membership with an IAPS Member Society. Upon acceptance, artists will be required to show proof of membership (membership card, cancelled check, or email from society president). A current list of IAPS member societies can be viewed at www.iapspastel.org.
Please read carefully to make sure your work meets the following entry requirements.
• Works must be in dry pastel, with the final surface a minimum of 80% dry pastel.
• No oil pastels. Mixed media must be predominantly (80%) dry pastel.
• Work must be original, not copied from other artists or published materials.
• All artwork must be originally drawn and not created on top of a base photo or print.
• All work must have been created within the last two years.
• Paintings of nudes will be considered for acceptance.
• Works done under supervision (such as in a workshop or class) are not eligible.
• Works that appear to duplicate, or be closely derivative of, a painting previously accepted into an IAPS show, and done by the same artist, will not be eligible.
• Work may not have been accepted in any previous IAPS Exhibition or Webshow. This does not include work accepted into IAPS Member Society shows.
Failure to meet any of the requirements for eligibility may result in the artwork not being juried. Artwork submitted and accepted into this show that is found to have been shown in a previous IAPS exhibition, will be rejected and the Artist will receive a two-year ban on future IAPS shows. IAPS reserves the right to exclude from exhibitions any artwork deemed offensive, or any artwork that violates the laws of the United States, or of state or local governments.

ONLINE ENTRY: Entry is digital and online only. Go to
www.OnlineJuriedShows.com and scroll down to the 29th IAPS Juried Exhibition. Follow the directions for entry. You do not need to have a PayPal account to pay the entry fee online, just a valid credit card.
For artists submitting artwork outside the US, please use the same entry procedures.
PREPARING YOUR SUBMISSION(S): When filling out your information online at www.OnlineJuriedShows.com, please be sure all information is correct, including spelling. No changes to this information after the due date. All information is input by the Artist (who has the sole access to this information) and is used by IAPS for reference, printed materials, and online postings.
Please follow these instructions carefully regarding the preparation of your images:
• Only jpeg image files will be accepted.
• Entry form must be filled out in its entirety. List sizes up to the nearest inch. Submitted images must not include matting or frame. Crop the photos to include only the artwork. Be sure your images are right-side-up.
• For best results, make sure your images are at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi (but no larger than 4MB). Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space. Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at: www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx. If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please email Help@OnlineJuriedShows.com or call 949-287-8645.
Please be sure your name, address, phone number, and email address are up-to-date in the OJS database. To update your personal information, log in at www.OnlineJuriedShows.com using your email address and password. Click Your "Artist Profile." Click "Personal Info" and update, if necessary, and SAVE.
ENTRY FEE: The entry fee is $35.00 for the first image and $10.00 for each additional image. Up to 5 images may be submitted by an individual artist. Entry fees are not refundable. All entries must be paid by the entry deadline.
NOTIFICATION: Up to 5 entries may be submitted, no more than 2 per artist will be accepted for our webshow. All Artists will receive notification by email after judging is complete. Please add Manager@OnlineJuriedShows.com to your safe senders list to ensure email delivery. You can view your acceptance by logging in to your Artist Profile after the notification date. All accepted works will be displayed on the IAPS web site and on www.OnlineJuriedShows.com under Published Shows.
IAPS MASTER CIRCLE AND IAPS EMINENT PASTELIST HONORS
Acceptance into this exhibition earns 1 point (even if more than one image is accepted) into the IAPS Honors Program; an award earns an additional point. For information about IAPS Master Circle and Eminent Pastelist honors programs, or the IAPS Code of Ethics, please see the IAPS Honors page on the IAPS website, www.iapspastel.org.
JURORS AND JUDGE: A panel of three Jurors will select the entries to be accepted for the exhibition, and a Judge of Awards will choose the awards.
JUDGE OF AWARDS: Doug Dawson
Doug Dawson was recognized as a “Hall of Fame Artist” by the Pastel Society of America in 2008. He is the author of "Capturing Light and Color with Pastel" and is included in numerous books and articles on pastel painting. He is a Member of the Masters Circle of the International Association of Pastel Societies. Doug is also a Pastel Society of America Master Pastelist. He is a founding board member for The Art Students League of Denver, where he presently teaches. His work has shown in many museum shows and he conducts numerous workshops around the country.
JUROR: Dawn Emerson
Dawn Emerson is a versatile pastelist, printmaker and mixed-media artist whose work exudes energy, color and spirit. As a workshop instructor and judge, she has a reputation for originality, generous student interaction, and thoughtful presentation. Dawn is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and the Pastel Society of the West Coast, an instructor and demonstrator for IAPS, and is currently writing a book about pastel techniques for North Light Books. Dawn's work is collected nationally and has been included in the Society of Animal Artists and the Birds in Art traveling exhibits. She has produced three instructional DVDs, and her work has been published in Strokes of Genius, Pastel Journal, The Artist Magazine, and Design and Composition for the Painter.
JUROR: Nancy Nowak
Nancy Nowak, of Suwanee, GA, earned her BFA degree at the Cleveland Institute of Art. After owning both a calligraphy and printing business, she rededicated herself to her art. An avid plein air artist, Nancy strives to evoke an emotional response and awareness to the everyday beauty that surrounds us in her landscapes, painted in a representational style with impressionist flair and an expressive sense of color. Nancy has won a number of national awards, including first place in the landscape category of the 17th Annual Pastel 100. She has achieved Master Circle status with IAPS, and is a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America and a Member of Excellence in the Southeastern Pastel Society. She also instructs pastel workshops and classes.
JUROR: Cuong Nguyen
Trained to be a traditional portraitist at the age of 10 in his native Vietnam, Cuong Nguyen has always had a passion for drawing human faces. His paintings depend on the dramatic portrayal of light, shadow and environment to create a mood and sense of realism. He believes that a successful painting requires that he establish an emotional connection with his subject, so that the viewer in turn connects at an emotional level with his work. Cuong has been invited to teach in throughout the U.S. and outside the country, including opportunities in Mexico, China and Costa Rica. He has won a number of awards for his paintings, including the Prix de Pastel at the 2011 IAPS Master Circle Exhibition and the Pastel Journal Grand Prize Award in the 2010 Pastel 100. Cuong is a Distinguished Pastelist in the Pastel Society of the West Coast, a Master Pastelist in the Pastel Society of America, and a member of the IAPS Master Circle.
SALES: Work may be for sale if the artist wishes. Buyers who contact IAPS will be referred to the artist for a direct sale. A 30% donation to IAPS is requested.
