The National Association of Women Artists, Inc. (NAWA) welcomes American Women Sculptors, whose medium is direct carving, to apply for this prestigious award.

General Information:
•    Applicants must be 18+, U.S. citizens or permanent U.S. residents.
•    An award of $5,000 will be given to a woman artist whose media is direct carving.  The final decision will be based on artistic excellence.
•    All work must be original with a minimum of 75% produced by direct carving.
•    Work will be reviewed by two arts professionals: Ayami Aoyama and Barbara Segal (please see attached artist statements).
•    Application deadline: November 27, 2016.  The winner will be notified in February, 2017.

Established in 1889, the National Association of Women Artists promotes the work of American Women artists through a variety of exhibitions, awards and educational programs.  Professional women artists are welcome to apply for membership to NAWA.  For details, please visit, www.thenawa.org or send email to: office@thenawa.org

Award Notification:
•    Award winner will be notified in February, 2017, through certified mail.  Winners will also be posted on the NAWA website, www.thenawa.org and the NAWA Facebook page.
•    NAWA reserves the right to use images of artist’s work selected for publicity and educational purposes.
•    The jury committee decision is final.

Requirements:
•    Application fee for all of the images is $75.  Payment can be made through www.onlinejuriedshows.com upon checkout using a credit card or PayPal.  Entry fees are non-refundable and must be made by the entry deadline.
•    A minimum of ten different works.  You will be allowed a primary image and secondary image with each 3D entry.
•    A (maximum) two-page artist resume along with an artist statement and short biography.  To upload your artist resume, log into your account on www.onlinejuriedshows.com using your email address and password, click “Your Artist Profile,” click “Personal Info” and follow the directions in the Bio Upload section.
•    For best results, make sure your images are at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi (but no larger than 4MB).  Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space.  Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at:  www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx. National Direct Carving Competition

AYAMI AOYAMA
Ms. Aoyami is an Art Instructor, Sculptor, at the Stone Division of the Johnson Atelier, Technical Institute of Sculpture, Mercerville, NJ.  She also worked at the Advanced Stone Technologies.

Ms. Aoyami received her BFA from Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music, Aichi, Japan, in oil painting.  She attended the Art Students League of New York, Sculptor: stone.  She also worked in sculpture, stone, at the Johnson, Atelier, Mercerville, NJ, Stone Division: Apprentice Program.

Ayami had the urge to travel to seek something. When she started her carving stone journey to seek shapes, colors and textures, she no longer needed to travel anywhere.  Stone contains life within, “Being nature’s way.  I always feel peace and happiness”.


BARBARA SEGAL  
Barbara Segal is a Faculty Member at the School of Visual Arts.

Ms. Segal’s work continues to be exhibited in both solo and group exhibitions sponsored by museums and universities.  In 2001 she was awarded a NYC Metropolitan Authority Arts for Transit commission.  Her work is held in both public and private collections, including those of the Neuberger Museum of Art, the White House, Malcolm Forbes and the Limited’s Leslie Wexner. Segal teaches stone carving at the School of Visual Art.
