ABOUT THE JUROR

Leslie Shows is an American artist who is recognized for expanding the boundaries of landscape painting. Leslie Shows' earlier works were mixed-media collages depicting abstracted landscapes.  Her more recent paintings, while retaining the use of mixed media, have become more abstracted and focus on mineral textures and geologic features.

PROSPECTUS AND RULES OF ENTRY
(Please read carefully!!)


CALL FOR ENTRIES
The art of collage, mixed-media collage and assemblage allow artists the freedom to alter materials to create their own reality. This exhibit celebrates your artistic imagination!

Altered States of Collage” is juried for selections and awards.

ELIGIBILITY
This exhibit is open to all artists residing in the United States who are able to hand deliver or ship their artwork.  (Please see shipping details.)

Two- or three-dimensional collage, mixed-media collage and assemblage accepted. Artists may enter a maximum of five works completed within the last three years and not already shown at SFVACC or any prior CAA exhibit. Copies, giclée prints and similar duplicates, and works completed under direct supervision of an instructor, are ineligible. Source material must be original OR not PRIMARILY derived from any published images. Once artwork is submitted the artist may not withdraw it. Delivered work must match the image juried in.  No substitutions of accepted works will be allowed. No artwork may be removed from the gallery prior to closing of exhibit, including sold artwork.  

AWARDS
First Place $500, Second Place $300, Third Place $200, three Honorable Mentions and Merchandise Awards.

The gallery is at the 4,600 sq. ft.
San Fernando Valley Arts & Cultural Center, 18312 Oxnard Street, Tarzana, CA 91356

Tuesday - Saturday, 11:00 am – 5:00 pm

SITTING THE CENTER
Local artists whose work is accepted are expected to sit the Center from November 15 - December 3, 2016 for at least one 3-hour shift. (11:00 am - 2:00 pm or 2:00 - 5:00 pm Tuesday through Saturday). Please sign up during the take-in.

ARTWORK FORMAT, PRESENTATION & SIZE REQUIREMENTS
Maximum width of any wall hung artwork must not exceed 48” including the frame. Artists must supply their own pedestals or bases.  Non-traditional framing is allowed; however, frames must be clean and in good condition. No glass allowed, Plexiglas only. Entries must be dry, properly prepared for exhibition and properly equipped with wire for hanging. No sawtooth hangers accepted. The wire and eye screws must not show when the artwork is hung. Gallery wrapped canvas does not require framing unless the edges are unfinished. Maximum weight for any hanging artwork is 20 lbs. per piece. Maximum weight for pedestal pieces is 45 lbs. per piece. Damaged artwork, mats, frames, Plexiglas, and artwork that is not properly wired for hanging will not be accepted. Artwork delivered must be identical to that accepted through Online Juried Shows. CAA reserves the right to refuse artwork that doesn’t meet these requirements.

SHIPPED WORKS
Maximum size 48”x48” including frame. Must arrive between November 1-9, 2016 with return shipment included.  Mailing directions will be sent upon acceptance.
DO NOT SHIP TO San Fernando Valley Arts & Cultural Center. Artwork will be returned by December 20, 2016.

ONLINE JURIED SHOWS ENTRY PROCEDURE
Artwork (up to 5 pieces) for consideration by juror must be entered on the OnlineJuriedShows.com website by Sunday, October 2, 2016, no later than 5:00 pm Pacific Time.
Go to www.OnlineJuriedShows.com  to submit your entry.  If you do not have an account, you will need to set one up.  Follow the instructions on the screen.
• Digital format: .JPEG or .JPG
• OnlineJuriedShows.com will resize the submitted images to 1920 pixels for the longest side (be sure your images are smaller than 4MB upon upload or you will get an error message).
• Image minimum 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72dpi.
• Submitted work should be correctly oriented (vertical or horizontal). Frames and mats should not be visible in the submitted image(s)
• Label each digital image with your name and picture title.
• Use capitalization and punctuation as you wish it to appear.

ENTRY FEES
Non-refundable entry fee is $35 for one artwork and $10 for each additional entry, up to 5 total. All fees are nonrefundable and payable by credit card or PayPal through OnlineJuriedShows.com before the entry deadline.

DISCLAIMER
Entries not meeting the criteria listed above will be disqualified and the entry fee will not be refunded.

REPRODUCTION OF ARTWORK IMAGES
By entering this exhibit, artist agrees that any accepted artwork may be reproduced for advertising, marketing, and promotional purposes for this exhibit or future exhibits without consent of or notification to the artist or the artist’s agent.

ONLINE ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED BY
Sunday, October 2, 2016, no later than 5:00 pm Pacific Time.  All submissions must be made online via OnlineJuriedShows.com.

TAKE-IN
Hand-delivered artwork due on Monday, November 14, 2016, 12:00 noon-2:00pm.

Any artwork that arrives damaged or does not adhere to rules of entry will be disqualified.

Artists may designate an agent to deliver and/or pick up their artwork.

TAKE-DOWN AND PICK-UP
Monday, December 5, 10:00 am – 12 noon. After exhibit close, unsold artwork must be picked up at gallery. Artist/agent must sign for all artwork removed from the premises.  Shipped works will be returned by December 20, 2016.

NO SECURE STORAGE IS AVAILABLE. If you cannot pick up your artwork as required, please make arrangements for someone to pick it up for you. Storage charge is $5 per day if art is left at the gallery. (Shipped artworks excepted.)

GALLERY SALES
All sales are final. Gallery will receive 30% commission on any and all sales during and as a result of the exhibit. Artist will receive 70%. All work shall remain in the exhibit until the exhibit ends. Any artwork without a sale price on the entry form will be considered “Not for Sale” (NFS). Prices cannot be changed from those stated at submission. Artists should expect payment within 3 weeks after close of the exhibition.

OBLIGATIONS AND LIABILITY
By entering this exhibit and signing the entry form, artists agree to the terms, conditions, and instructions in this prospectus and on the entry form. Accepted artists are asked to provide by email a brief biographical and artistic statement, two-three paragraphs, to fit on one page, including a small photo. Publication of statements is solely at the discretion of CAA. Exhibit postcard announcements are available at take-in. Artists are encouraged to send announcements to colleagues and other artists. An e-mail invitation with the postcard image will also be provided to forward. Artworks are handled with utmost care. However, artists are solely responsible for maintaining appropriate insurance on their artwork at all times. Neither CAA, nor any organization, gallery, agent, employee, contractor, CAA member, nor volunteer is responsible for loss or damage to any artwork submitted, nor any loss or damage that may occur during transit.

•    On or before October 10:  Acceptance Notification

•    Monday, November 14, 12:00 noon – 2:00 pm:  Hand-delivery of artwork to SFVACC take-in

•    Tuesday, November 15:  Exhibit opens (see Regular Gallery Hours above)

•    Saturday, November 19, 5:00 – 7:00 pm:  Opening Reception. Awards presented at 6:00 pm.

•    Monday, December 5, 10:00 am – 12 noon:  Pick up of hand-delivered artwork

•    Shipped Artwork returned by December 20, 2016.

IF ACCEPTED, YOU WILL BE ASKED TO PROVIDE THE FOLLOWING:

ARTIST BINDER INSTRUCTIONS

To be included in the Exhibiting Artists Binder shown at the gallery, each artist may submit:

• Photograph of self.  One only. Color headshot, vertical orientation, plain background preferred, clearly focused. Digital file formats accepted: .jpg, .png, .tiff, .psd.  Photo should be minimum 150 dpi resolution, maximum approximately 2mb. If you do not have a digital file, mail a sharp, in-focus, large photographic print for scanning.

• Biographical information.  Maximum 300 words, written in second person. (Example: "Ms. Jones studied with Robert Rauschenberg.") Limit biography to collage, assemblage and mixed-media collage. Work in other media may be mentioned briefly. Biography to include: very brief personal history; artistic history, including education; artistic influences; creative/collage methods, media, materials, techniques. May also include: brief statement on scope of exhibits in which your collage-related art has appeared (there is not enough space for a list of all exhibits); significant awards received; collections in which your artwork is held; publications in which your artwork has appeared.

• Artist Statement.  Maximum 150 words, written in the first person. (Example: "I create collage because…") If you don't have a statement to use as a starting point, describe why you create collage, how you feel about your collage art, how you would like viewers to see it, etc.

• Contact.  Artist's email address, telephone number and website may be included and it will be presumed that this information is for publication. Only one email address and website per artist.  Home address will NOT be published.

• Submission deadline and delivery method.  Your material must be received by November 10, 2016, 5:00 pm Pacific Time. No late submissions will be accepted and material not received by the deadline will not be included in the Artist Binder at the gallery for this exhibit.

Please check and correct grammar and spelling before submission as no corrections will be made prior to publication. Use your name exactly as you want it to appear. Avoid quoting others' words (even about you and your work) because CAA does not have permission to reprint what others have written or said. Submissions over the stated word limit are subject to editing. Artists may not submit their own binder page; all artists' pages follow the same format in the binder and no additional material can be accommodated.
