Exhibit Description: The goal of this exhibit is to rejoice in the beauty and inspiration of our oceanside environment and to celebrate area artists! It is also to provide an opportunity for artists to display their work, and for the public to view and purchase the excellent plein air and studio pieces being produced by these fine artists. The exhibition is part of the larger Rejoice in Art! Fine Art Fair taking place at Riviera UMC on October 14-16, which includes artists’ tents, art demos, food, musical entertainment and children's activities. All proceeds benefit Riviera’s mission projects, as well as its art and music programs.
The exhibit will be held at Riviera UMC, 375 Palos Verdes Blvd., Redondo Beach, CA 90277 from October 14 to October 30, 2016.
Artists and the public are invited to attend an exhibit opening reception to be held at Riviera UMC on Friday, October 14 from 5 to 7 p.m.
Exhibit Theme: “An Ocean View II.” This exhibit provides an opportunity for artists to display their interpretations of the ocean and coastal environment. In other words, it will celebrate seascapes.

Juror: The exhibition will be juried and judged by esteemed artist Stephen Mirich from Southern California (www.mirich.net). Mirich was born in San Pedro, California in 1954. He entered his first exhibition at fifteen with a plein air watercolor in the Junior Division of a local art show, but due to the proficiency of his work, he was placed in the adult division where he took second place. He continued to enter exhibitions and competitions for the next several years. He stayed active with the San Pedro Art Association throughout his teen years and served as its president (1973-1974). Mirich studied architecture in college but always knew he wanted to pursue a career in fine art. To further his art education he studied under the noted artist, Theadore N. Lukits (1897 - 1992) at the Lukits Academy of Fine Art in Los Angeles and private studies with Julian Ritter (1919 -1998).
Mirich is perhaps best-known for his seascapes and maritime scenes. For the first twenty years of his career, he spent most of his time in the studio creating paintings that depicted historic maritime scenes. In recent years he has moved towards painting almost exclusively en plein air. He relishes the excitement of painting outdoors, as well as the opportunity to paint a wide variety of subjects, including cities, mountains, and desertscapes. Nocturnes are also one of his favorite subjects, and he can often be found using portable lights attached to his easel, painting into the night.
Steve is a founding member of the Portuguese Bend Artists Colony and a Life Member and past president of the San Pedro Art Association. He has been involved with the California Art Club since the early 1990's, served as vice president (1997-2003) and long-serving member of the Advisory Board, as well as a Signature Artist.
Revenue from Sales: Revenue from sales will be distributed as follows – 80% to the artist, 20% to Riviera UMC to benefit local mission projects and its art and music programs. Paintings are encouraged to be for purchase. If necessary, work may be listed as NFS, but no “price on request.”
