ART OF THE PASTEL 2016

Exhibition Details
There is nothing more spectacular than an entire room full of luminous vibrant pastel paintings.  This year the Pastel Society of Southeast Texas will hold its juried show in the beautiful venue, The Gallery at Round Top from October 29 through November 26, 2016.

Eligibility
•    Work must be in dry pastel only. No oil pastels. Mixed media must be predominantly (80%) dry pastel.
•    Work must be original, not copied from other artists or published photographs. Paintings done in school, in a school monitored studio, in a workshop or under instructor supervision are not acceptable.
•    All artwork must be originally drawn and not created on top of a base photo or print.
•    All work must have been created within the last two years and must be for sale.
•    Paintings of nudes may be considered for acceptance.
•    PSST reserves the right to exclude from exhibition any artwork deemed offensive, or any artwork that violates the laws of the United States, or of state or local governments.
•    Painting size limit including frame: 48” in either direction.
•    Maximum of 3 entries per artist.
•    PSST reserves the right to reject delivered works selected for the exhibit that differ significantly from jpeg image.

Fees
ENTRY FEE shall be paid through OnlineJuriedShows.com.  All entries must be paid by the entry deadline.
The entry fee for up 2 paintings is $35 for PSST Members plus $10 for one extra entry.
The entry fee for Non-Members is $45 for up to 2 painting and $15 for one extra entry.

Entering Your Images:
Entry form must be filled out in its entirety, including unframed dimensions (or size), framed dimensions (if not known, estimate it) or weight, medium, and price, if requested.  List sizes up to the nearest half inch.  Submitted images must not include matting or frame.  Crop the photos to include only the artwork.  Be sure your images are right-side-up.

For best results, make sure your image is 1920 pixels @72 dpi on the longest side.  Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space.  Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at: www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx.  If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please email

Jurors of Selection:

Jeanne Rosier Smith
Jeanne Rosier Smith is a member of the IAPS Master’s Circle, a signature member of the Pastel Society of America, the Pastel Painter’s Society of Cape Cod and the Connecticut Pastel Society.  She is also an artist member of the Salmagundi Club and the Copley Society of Boston.   Her recent awards include IAPS Prix de Pastel, a Gold Medal at the American Artists Professional League, and a Grand Prize in International Artist Magazine’s Seascapes, Lakes and Rivers competition.  Her work has appeared in numerous publications and she is a regular contributor to the Pastel Journal.

Paula Ann Ford
Paula is a self-taught artist who paints romantic landscapes in soft pastels. Originally from Upstate NY, Paula has an Associate’s Degree in Business and a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. Paula started painting in 2000 in oils, and in 2005 discovered and fell in love with soft pastels. Paula enjoys painting in her studio and often paints en plein air. She is the exhibition/show chair for the International Association of Pastel Societies, and the Manager of OnlineJuriedShows.com.  She is a Member of the Adirondack Pastel Society, a member of VIEW, the premier art center of Upstate NY, and was a Guide in the Pastel Forum of Wetcanvas.com for several years.  Paula often gives lectures and teaches workshops throughout the US.  Her paintings are represented by Gallery 3040 and VIEW in Old Forge, NY, and are in private collections worldwide.

Ellie Orseck
Houston-based artist Ellen Orseck paints images of figures submerged in water, sumo wrestlers immersed in food, abstractions of creation, space, and turbulent weather. Her underwater series “Liquified” was displayed in a solo show at Nicole Longnecker Gallery in Houston.  “Submerged” was displayed at 80 Washington Square East Gallery in New York City, at Nauhaus Gallery and the Texas Collaborative Space in Houston.  Orseck’s paintings of tornados were selected to represent Texas artists at the National Museum in Lima, Peru, as well as in Houston’s City Hall.  She presented a solo exhibit of portraits of creative Texans in “Made in Texas” at Bering and James Gallery in Houston and her “Storms, Sumos and Sweets,” presented a view of sumo wrestlers, desserts and tornados at The University of Houston/Downtown O’Kane Gallery.

Orseck is an art instructor at Rice University Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies and Watercolor Art Society Houston. She is represented by the Nicole Longnecker Gallery in Houston, and works from her studio at 2101 Winter Street.

Judge of Awards:
Cheng Lian was born in 1955 in Shanghai, China and graduated from the China Academy of Fine Art (known as Zhejiang Academy of Fine Art). He moved to the United State in 1989 and is now a resident of The Woodlands, Texas.

Mr. Lian’s work has garnered international attention and awards and is represented in public and private collections around the world. A signature member of the Oil Painters of America (OPA), he is also an Inaugural Signature Member of the California Plein Air Painters (CPAP), a Master Signature Artist of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society (NOAPS) and is active in additional art societies.

His work has been featured in a number of national and international publications, including The Artists’ Magazine (June/July 2015); Fine Art Connoisseur (June 2015), American Art Collector (2009), Art World News (cover), Chinese Select Oil Painting Artists (Japan) and more.

In 2015, NOAPS honored him with the Best Figurative award, Best of America and he received Honorable Mention in The Artists’ Magazine all-media online competition. He also received honorable mention from NOAPS in its Master/Signature Artist Invitational Show and was selected by OPA for its 24th Annual National Juried Exhibition by OPA and its 2015 Juried Salon Show.

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE OR NON-ACCEPTANCE:  Artists will be notified of jury results by email during the week of August 22, 2016.  All original artwork accepted into the show shall be either hand-delivered or shipped to The Gallery at Round Top.

Prize winners will be announced at the reception on October 29th from 4 to 6 pm.

Sales Exhibition Details
The Gallery at Round Top will receive a 45% commission.

No paintings may be removed from the gallery prior to November 26. It is the artist's responsibility to deliver a painting to the buyer after the show concludes.

Shipped works must arrive before Friday, October 21st.  It is suggested to carry full insurance on shipped works.  Include a check to cover the cost of return shipping unless your billing account number or return prepaid shipping label with a shipping company.  The check should be inside the crate with your painting and made payable to The Gallery at Round Top.  (If the artwork sells, payment for return shipping will be returned to the artist.)

Drop off Artwork Last date for hand delivered artwork to be received:  Sunday, October 23, 2016, 4 pm.

Works shipped back or picked up on Sunday, November 27th, or Thursday, December 1st (11am-5pm).

There will be cash prizes, ribbons and gift awards from our sponsors for Best of Show. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 2 Honorable Mention.

PSST AWARD POINTS:
PSST will award one point to PSST members whose painting wins Best of Show or Second Place.  If the same Member receives both Best of Show and First Place, that member is entitled to only one point. A non-member is not eligible to receive points toward PSST Signature Status.

(Paintings mailed to Gallery must have a prepaid return postage label enclosed with painting.  It is not the Gallery’s responsibility to pay return postage.)

Neither the PSST, their officers or members, nor The Gallery at round Top will be responsible for loss or damage of any artwork, no matter what the cause. By submitting artwork to this exhibition, each artist agrees to this statement. Artwork is not insured while in the possession of The Gallery at Round Top.

Responsibilities of the Artist: By entering the show, you agree that you have read and will abide by the rules outlined in this prospectus. If you enter the exhibit you agree that the artwork entered will be available for the exhibition   If, after you submit your entry, you have the opportunity to sell the artwork and wish to take advantage of the opportunity, the proper course of action is to direct the sale to the gallery, or send the gallery 45% commission when you send the painting. In either case, the artwork is required to hang in the exhibition.

Failure to send your artwork for exhibition after it has been accepted or failure to abide by any other rule or requirements in this prospectus may result in your disqualification from future Gallery at Round top and AOTP exhibitions. No substitutions will be allowed.
