This Land is Our Land 2016

~~~This Land is Our Land~~~
October 5, 2016 – Jan 7, 2017
Opening Reception: Friday, October 7, 2016
6-9 PM
Pacific Grove Library
550 Central Avenue
Pacific Grove, CA
The United States was the first country in the world to set aside land for everyone to enjoy, and to keep in its natural state.  The National Park Service was created in 1916 to “protect the wild and wonderful landscapes” that already included 35 National Parks.  John Muir’s impassioned writings inspired Americans to fight for the preservation of large tracts of Western forests including Yosemite.  Muir and his writings were instrumental in the creation of our National Parks system.
The arts have been part of the history of national parks since the 1870’s and were used as a powerful tool to help create the National Parks and the Park Service.  Artists are invited to enter original two-dimensional artwork in painting, drawing, collage, fine-art printmaking, photography, or mixed media that celebrates the unique beauty of John Muir’s passion and America’s greatest treasure, our National Parks.
Eligibility
Original two-dimensional artwork in painting, drawing, collage, printmaking, photography, mixed media. Ink jet reproductions on canvas will not be accepted.
Entry Fees
$30 for up to three entries, $5 for each additional entry, up to a total of five entries.
Additional $15 fee for handling shipped artwork.
