Cannabis: A Visual Perspective

 

Exhibition Details
This is a Rocky Mountain Society of Botanical Artists juried exhibit promoting education and understanding of the Cannabis plant.  The subject for the exhibition will be the entire Cannabis genus, including all three species and seven subspecies. We encourage artists to seek out unique strains and to depict whatever aspect of them they find most engaging and inspiring, while adhering to high standards of botanical accuracy and skilled use of media. Botanical illustration will allow people who see the exhibition to appreciate the diversity of the Cannabis genus.

Eligibility
Botanical artists are invited to enter original artwork not previously exhibited in a RMSBA art exhibit in any two-dimensional medium that reflects the tradition of botanical art and adheres to high standards of botanical accuracy.  Prints will not be accepted.  All work will be juried using digital images.

Fees
There is a $35 entry fee for RMSBA members for 1 image, non-members $45 for 1 image, $5 for each additional image up to 3 images.  Entries must be paid by the entry deadline. Entry fees are non-refundable.  The entry deadline is August 16, 2017.

Entering your images
The website has many helpful features and will insure a smooth process for all parties.

Entry form must be filled out in its entirety.  List sizes up to the nearest inch.  Submitted images must not include matting or frame.  Crop the photos to include only the artwork.  Be sure your images are right-side-up.

Before uploading your images, make sure they are smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi.  Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space.  Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at:  www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx.  If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please write to us here:  https://onlinejuriedshows.com/Contact.aspx

Jury Procedure
All art work will be juried using digital images.  The exhibit jurors will be announced at a later date.  Criteria for acceptance will include botanical accuracy as well as artistic presentation and technical use of medium represented by a high quality digital image.  Selection results will be emailed August 23, 2017.

Sales
RMSBA is pleased to extend the opportunity for participating artists to sell their exhibit piece (s) during the exhibition.  All sales will be handled by RMSBA and payment will be made to the artists, minus 50% (covers commission to the venue and a donation to RMSBA), within 6 weeks after the exhibition.  Artists may also list their artwork as NFS (not for sale). Detailed instructions will be sent upon acceptance.

Awards
Awards for Best of Show, Honorable Mention and People’s Choice. Cash prizes will be awarded, amounts to be determined at a later date.

Calendar
Timeline of events
1.    Open February 1, 2016.
2.    Entry deadline August 16, 2017.
3.    Selection results e-mailed August 23, 2017.
4.    Deadline for shipped artwork to arrive at a location to be determined, September 1, 2017.
5.    Deadline for hand carried art work to a location to be communicated at a later date September 1, 2017 9-11am.
6.    Exhibit opens September 8, 2017 at CU Museum of Natural History.
7.    Artists reception September 7, 2017 from 6-8:30pm.
8.    Exhibit closes February 2018*.
9.    Pick-up of hand carried artwork to be determined at later date.
10.  Return shipments of artwork to be determined at a later date.
*Please note that the exhibit is being considered to travel to other venues, therefore artwork may need to be committed for a longer period of time.  Information to be communicated at a later date.

Receiving Artwork
Artists who work is accepted by the jurors will receive detailed instructions for shipping and hand delivery of artwork.  The artist is responsible for all shipping and insurance costs both to and from the exhibit.

Presentation of Artwork
Frames must be ordered from Dick Blick www.dickblick.com:  Blick Essentials Wood Gallery Frames, Natural only.  Product order numbers are:

16” x 20”   S18862-1908
18” x 24”   S18862-1909

Selected entries must be:
•    Framed and ready to hang.
•    NO sawtooths or projecting eye screws.
•    Plexiglass required on all artwork.
•    White or off-white mat colors.
•    Floating images are discouraged as they often fall during shipment.

Label the back of your artwork with your name, address, phone number, email, title of artwork, sales status and price.  Titles must include the Latin name of the plant portrayed.

Accepted entries that do not conform to the above presentation may be refused at the time of hanging.
