ABOUT Connecticut Women Artists

Connecticut Women Artists (CWA) was founded in 1929, when 20 women artists banded together to create exhibition  opportunities at a time when few existed for women. Their first exhibition was held in Hartford at the nation’s first public  art museum, the Wadsworth Atheneum, founded in 1842. Today, CWA remains one of the country’s oldest continuously  operating women’s art organizations and is thriving as it approaches its centennial in 2029.
