OVERVIEW
The Culver City Arts Foundation invites professional muralists to apply for a unique opportunity to create a live mural demonstration during the 7th annual Culver City Art Walk and Roll Festival celebration of community art and culture. This highly visible commission will showcase the artistic process while engaging thousands of festival attendees in the creative journey.

Expected Attendance: 15,000+ visitors

Projected Timeline
- Setup: May occur prior to event
- Live Demonstration: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM
- Artist Talk/Q&A: 5:00 PM - 5:30 PM
- Documentation & Wrap: 5:30 PM - 6:00 PM
ARTIST REQUIREMENTS
Open to Culver City artists and those in the surrounding locales.
Qualifications
- Portfolio demonstrating large-scale outdoor work
- Experience with public art and community engagement
- Ability to work efficiently under time constraints
- Comfortable interacting with diverse audiences
Technical Requirements
- Must work on mural during festival hours
- Work must be suitable for all ages and family-friendly
- Use of weather-resistant, archival-quality materials
- Adherence to city public art guidelines
THEME & ARTISTIC VISION
Theme: "Culver City Connections"
Artists should interpret themes of community, diversity, creativity, and the interconnected nature of urban life in Culver City. We encourage vibrant, optimistic works that celebrate the city's rich cultural tapestry and artistic heritage.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Artist Grant: $5,000
- Marketing & Promotional Support
- Professional Documentation (photos/video)
- Non awarded Finalists may be offered booths or other opportunities during the event
APPLICATION MATERIALS
- Artist Statement (500 words max) addressing:
- Your interpretation of the theme “Culver City Connections”
- Approach to live demonstration
- Community engagement philosophy
- Proposed Design Concept
- Brief description of your approach to the concept
- Portfolio
- 5-10 images of previous mural work
- At least 3 large-scale outdoor pieces
- Include dimensions and completion date (add date to description field on entry form)
- Timeline & Process Plan
- Breakdown of demonstration timeline for the event
- Materials list and preparation needs
ENTRY FEE & SPECIFICATIONS
- $8 per application. Entry fees are non-refundable.
- Images must be jpg and under 4 mb. For best results, images should be at least 1920 pixels on the longest side @ 72 dpi

SELECTION CRITERIA
Applications will be evaluated on:
- Artistic Merit (45%) - Quality, originality, and visual impact
- Theme Interpretation (35%) - Creative response to "Culver City Connections"
- Technical Feasibility (20%) - Realistic timeline and execution

- Application Deadline: October 2, 2025 (11:59 PM PST)
- Artist Notification: October 9, 2025
- Contract Execution: October 12, 2025
- Final Design Approval: October 16, 2025
- Site Visit (Optional): October 13, 2025
- Festival Day: October 18, 2025
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Weather Contingency
Event proceeds rain or shine. Covered workspace and weather protection will be provided if needed.
Permits & Insurance
All permits and insurance coverage provided by festival organizers.
Mural Retention
If not on a specific building, the completed mural will be relocated to a permanent location in Culver City after the festival, ensuring lasting community impact.
Documentation Rights
Building owners will have rights of copyright to artwork to make building alterations as they see fit. Culver City Arts Foundation and Festival organizers may use images for promotional and fundraising purposes with proper attribution.
