SUBJECT MATTER

Celebrating California’s 175th anniversary, From Sea to Sierra traces the state’s diverse landscape, stretching from the Pacific Ocean to the Sierra Nevada mountains. The artwork will highlight the natural contrasts of the land from the soft blues and rolling waves of the coast against the rugged granite peaks, pine forests and alpine lakes of the Sierras. This exhibition will encapsulate two of the state’s most defining natural landmarks, showcasing its beauty, variety and abundance.

The mission of this competition is to encourage artists to develop and refine their classical art skills and spotlight their mastery by providing a new platform for showcasing contemporary-traditional works of art.

We ask artists to represent From Sea to Sierra via contemporary-traditional methods. Any genre of work will be eligible for consideration. Artwork submitted should be created in the last three years.

Note: NFS works are now eligible for consideration. Review updated competition guidelines here.

EXAMPLES

· National and State parks like Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon, Anza-Borrego Desert, Joshua Tree, etc

· Pacific Ocean tide pools, kelp forests, and marine life

· Regional artifacts – coastal shells, pinecones, desert stones, native plants and animals, etc.
