9th Annual “Waterworks” at the LPAPA Gallery
PROSPECTUS - Submissions open February 2025
EXHIBITION TITLE: 9th Annual “Waterworks” Juried Watercolor Art Show at the LPAPA Gallery.
The Waterworks Show was established in collaboration with the Mission of the “Joe Hanks Van Cleave Foundation for the Arts” https://jhvcfa.org/.
EXHIBITION DATES: Online Art Catalog exhibition April 28 thru June 2; LPAPA Gallery Exhibition May 1 thru June 2. Top-scoring Semi-Finalists to be included in the online Art Catalog exhibition April 28 - June 2 and in the Preview Auction April 28 - May 1.
LOCATION: The LPAPA Gallery, 414 North Coast Hwy., Laguna Beach, CA 92651, (949) 376-3635, gallery@lpapa.org; hours: 11am to 5pm, Thursday through Monday and by appointment. Hours extended to 9pm the first Thursday of each month for Art Walk.
QUALIFICATIONS: Open to all LPAPA Signature, Artist and Student Members in good standing through the end of the show date. If accepted, submitting Non-Member Artists will be required to join as an Artist or Student Member prior to the show opening.
SUBJECT MATTER: Open to all subject matters using transparent watercolors. Work may be completed en plein air or in studio; however, the top 1st Place award will be awarded to the “Best Plein Air Painting” (Studio work is not eligible for the 1st Place Award).
DEADLINE: Submit high quality image(s) no later than 11:59 pm on Monday, March 24, 2025.
ART ELIGIBILITY: Entries must be original paintings using transparent watercolors (only a minimal amount of opaque may be used for final highlights and signature). Entries may be completed en plein air or in studio within the last year. Entries need to be designated as Plein Air or Studio work (all work submitted as “Plein Air” must have been completed onsite outdoors, not from photo reference). Entries must not have been shown in a previous LPAPA Gallery exhibition. Entries must not violate copyright laws.
Maximum painting size: unframed not more than 37 united inches (United Inches = Length + Width before framing) Example: 15” x 22” would be calculated as 15 + 22 = 37 united inches
Minimum painting size: unframed not less than 18.5 united inches (United Inches = Length + Width before framing) Example: 7-1/2” + 11” = 18.5 united inches
All work must be framed with protective glass, glazing or varnish, wired and ready to hang (no sawtooth hangers); wires need to allow a sufficient clearance between hook and top of frame so that a 1” hook does not show above the frame when hung; a minimum 2” clearance is recommended; wires revealing hooks after being hung will require rewiring and delay the painting’s exhibition.
Note: You can ship/deliver your unframed work to Randy Higbee/kingofframe (https://www.kingofframe.com/pages/contact-us) for framing; be sure to let them know its being framed for the LPAPA WATERWORKS Show; they will deliver your framed work to the LPAPA Gallery by the delivery deadline and arrange return shipping if not sold.
COMMISSION: 50% to Artist, 50% to LPAPA. All artwork submitted must be available for sale through the LPAPA Gallery for a minimum of 30 days after the show ends. Semi-Finalist artwork sold online is to be framed and delivered by artist to the LPAPA Gallery upon sale or as instructed by LPAPA. Commission payments are paid by ACH Direct Deposit, typically within 15 days of the show closing. LPAPA will require a completed W9 form prior to payment.
HOW TO SUBMIT: Submit jpeg images for online jurying through OnlineJuriedShows; submitted images are used for jurying, Art Catalog for accepted artwork, and sales archiving, so quality images are important. Painting title, unframed size, medium and price is required with your submission. Submissions must also designate the work as completed in “Plein Air” or “Studio”.
Images must be jpg, under 4 mb, and in sRGB colorspace. For best results, images should be at least 1920 pixels on the longest side @ 72 dpi.

ENTRY FEE: $40.00 Entry Fee for up to 2 painting images; each additional painting image is $5.00. You may submit up to a maximum of 6 painting images. No more than 3 entries per artist will be accepted as Finalists and no more than 2 entries per artist accepted as Semi-Finalist works.
The Entry Fee payment must be made through OnlineJuriedShows. Entry fees are non-refundable.
All submitting LPAPA Members will receive a $5.00 LPAPA Loyalty Reward credited to their member account after the close of the show to be applied to reduce the member’s renewal fee.
NOTIFICATIONS: Notifications to be sent to artists via email by Monday, April 1, 2025, or as soon as possible after jurying is completed. Results will be in your OnlineJuriedShows artist profile.
ART DELIVERY, DROP-OFF & PICKUP: Artwork can be delivered anytime after acceptance but must arrive at the LPAPA Gallery no later than 1:00 pm Tuesday, April 29, 2025; the LPAPA Gallery is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays but will be open Tuesday April 29th, between 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, to accept hand carried artwork.
Shipped artwork needs to arrive on or before Friday April 25th; do not ship work for Tuesday or Wednesday delivery arrivals when the gallery is closed.
Artists may ship accepted artwork to the LPAPA Gallery, or hand carried during regular LPAPA Gallery business hours, Thursday through Monday 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, not more than 2 weeks prior to the delivery deadline. Accepted Finalists artwork delivered after the 1:00 pm April 29th deadline may not be hung in time for awards judging.
Unsold artwork to be picked up from the LPAPA Gallery on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, between 10:00 am - 1:00 pm, or during regular gallery hours after the close of the show; or artist may arrange for return shipping at the artist’s expense.
Although the utmost care will be taken in handling artwork, neither LPAPA, nor its representatives will be responsible for damage or loss from any cause. Insurance, if desired, is the responsibility and at the expense of the artist.
Please Note: LPAPA does not have the ability to store artwork for extended time periods after a show closes. Please plan to pick up your artwork on the scheduled pick up day, or schedule an alternative pick up time during regular gallery hours, or arrange for return shipping on or before the scheduled pick up date. Unclaimed artwork remaining at the gallery 14 days after a show closing, without the artist having provided payment for return shipping or scheduled a pick up date, will be considered abandoned and become the property of LPAPA.
