SUBJECT MATTER

Plein Air Visions will showcase the beauty and diversity of Southern California’s coastal and urban landscapes, featuring contemporary-traditional plein air paintings of Malibu, Ventura County and Los Angeles.

The immediacy and spontaneity of the plein air technique bring the dynamic energy of these locations to life, highlighting the ever-changing moods of the Pacific coast and the colorful vitality of cityscapes.

We ask artists to represent Plein Air Visions via en plein air techniques. Any genre of work will be eligible for consideration.

We kindly request that artists submit works created in the last three years.

EXAMPLES

Artworks could feature figures walking along Malibu’s cliffs, or lounging along the coast. Landscapes could capture the rolling hills of Ventura, with lush greenery and distant ocean views. Still lifes can be set against the backdrop of Los Angeles, Malibu or Ventura, featuring local fruits and flowers. Seascapes can depict luminous visions of the Pacific waves crashing along the shorelines.

Sculptures will also be considered and can complement the paintings by emphasizing the natural forms, textures and movements found in the Malibu, Ventura County and Los Angeles regions such as city figures in motion, cyclists or people in casual, every day moments. Alternatively, marine life sculptures can be considered.
