Movement: A Moment in Time
A National Photography Exhibition
Exhibition: January 17, 2025 – February 22, 2025
Reception: February 7, First Friday, 6:00-8:00pm
Juror: Devi Pride
Devi Pride is a full-time professional photographer with 13+ years of studio photography experience and 20+ years of videography experience. She has been based in the Bay Area with a studio in Santa Cruz, CA. She has been voted best in Santa Cruz from 2013-2024 in the Portrait Photographer category. Devi has shown her work in several galleries and art shows and excels at sculpting with light and shadows. Although she earns her living as a full-time portrait and event photographer Devi spends much of her time in artistic pursuits and shares her love of dance and the human form through her photography. Many of her favorite subjects are centered around dance and the arts.
Devi has several long-time artistic collaborators with whom she has shared Open Studios events and has displayed work at several galleries and shows, including the Unapologetically Black Art Show and the Capturing Dance exhibit at the Santa Cruz Art League. Devi has also instructed other photographers and has shared both in craft and business mentoring. Devi believes that to be an Artist is a gift to be shared and encouraged in others.
Santa Cruz Art League creates an environment where local as well as regional & national artists display their art. The many classes in art and performance provide a space for learning and enhancing the creative process. Established in 1919, Santa Cruz Art League is Santa Cruz County’s longest standing Arts organization, and is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit. In 2019 the Santa Cruz Art League celebrated its centennial year.
Exhibition Theme
The upcoming photography exhibition will center around the theme, "Movement: A Moment in Time." We selected this theme to inspire you to submit photographs that capture the magic of motion in your everyday lives. Movement, with its ever-changing nature, offers a beautiful canvas for you to explore and share your unique perspectives.
Photography is such a special art form because it lets us hold onto those fleeting moments that might otherwise pass us by. This theme invites you to look closely at the different ways movement happens around you, whether it’s the hustle and bustle of a busy city, the peaceful flow of a river, or the gentle swaying of a tree in the breeze. We welcome photos that show both the lively and the calm, the spontaneous and the carefully planned.
Movement is something we all experience, but it is different for each of us. By exploring this theme, you will have the opportunity to show the rhythm and energy of life as you see it. Our exhibition aims to celebrate the many ways movement shapes our world and our experiences. We encourage photographers of all levels to share their work, which we hope will inspire thought, curiosity, and creativity. By participating, you'll help create a collective story that captures the beauty of moments in motion throughout our Santa Cruz County community.
We invite you to join us in this artistic journey and help us create an exhibition that not only shows technical skill and creativity but also tells meaningful stories of movement and time. We can’t wait to see how each of you captures life through your photography!
