Nancie King Mertz, Juror of Selection and Awards 

Nancie has spent her lifetime painting in oil & pastel. She was awarded the Master Circle by Int’l Assoc. of Pastel Societies, Eminent Pastelist in 2018, and is a Master Signature member of Pastel Society of America & Chicago Pastel Painters. 

Nancie juries, demos & teaches numerous workshops across the US & Europe. She is on the faculty for the Plein Air Convention and the IAPS Convention. IAPS awarded her the Prix de Pastel in 2018. She was the lead juror for the 2019 IAPS Masters’ Show, and juried the 2022 PSA Enduring Brilliance Exhibition. 

Her work has been featured in Plein Air Magazine, Southwest Art, American Artist, French & Chinese magazines, as well as the cover and several articles in Pastel Journal. 

Nancie was a 3 year Instructor of Art at Eastern IL University where she received her MA in Painting two years after completing her BFA in Painting at the University of IL. 

She and her husband owned a gallery for 19 years in Chicago’s Lincoln Park/Lakeview. Nancie has owned a framing company since college, and they recently opened a Learning Center & gallery, Art DeTriumph, in their home in Rockford, IL for pastel immersion, where artists can stay. 

Her pastels are included in exhibits in museums in the US, China and Europe. She was the Guest of Honor of Art Du Pastel en France with a workshop and show of her work in Giverny in May, 2022. 

 

Schedule 

• September 1st: Digital Entry Opens. Entries must be entered on OnlineJuriedShows. Log in on this page and click Enter This Show to begin your submissions.

• October 4th: Deadline for Submission by Midnight
• October 25th: Acceptance notifications sent out. Results will be available in your OnlineJuriedShows artist profile.
• November 4th – 9th: Drop off or delivery to ACANSA
• November 15th: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. – Opening Reception and 

Awards Ceremony (Juror will be present) during the Argenta Art Walk
• December 20th: 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. – The Second Reception during the Argenta Art Walk • January 10th: Show Closes
• January 11th & 13th – 17th: Pick up hand delivered and shipping entries 

 

Sales 

• ACANSA will manage all sales of the artwork at a 40% commission. Art can be listed as NFS (not for sale). 

 

Eligibility 

• Open to all current members of the Arkansas Pastel Society whose dues are in good standing. Dues must have been paid by April 1, 2024, to be considered a member for this juried show. 

• Entries must be original and must have been executed within the last three years.
• Entries must be at least 80% soft or oil pastel.
• Accepted works may be refused if digital image does not accurately represent work.
• APS reserves the right to refuse any work submitted.
• Entries must be suitably framed under glass or Plexiglass and ready to hang with wire hangers (saw tooth 

Hangers are not allowed).
• All accepted works must remain hanging for the duration of the exhibit. 

• Entries must not have won an award in a prior Membership Juried show. 

 

Entry 

• Artist may submit up to two (2) entries.
• Entry fee is $35 for up to two (2) entries.

Image files must be jpg and under 4 mb, in sRGB colorspace. For best results, image files should be at least 1920 pixels on the longest side @ 72 dpi.

Delivery and return of accepted entries 

• All Entries - must be labeled with the following 

- Your name 

- Your phone number
- The title of the piece
- The price (If not for sale, please state – NFS or Not for Sale.) 

 

• Hand delivered entries
- Do not use foam peanuts for packing. 

- Drop off at ACANSA 

• November 4th - 8th: 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., call or text Will at 501-416-0973 in advance. 

• November 9th: noon - 2:00 p.m., no need to call or text in advance. - Pick up at ACANSA 

• January 11th - noon - 2:00 p.m., no need to call or text in advance. 

• January 13th - 17th - 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., call or text Will at 501-416-0973 in advance. 

 

• Shipped entries 

- Must be received no later than November 9th at 2:00 p.m.
- Sent prepaid in reusable crates with a PREPAID RETURN shipping label sent with the artwork. - Do not use foam peanuts for packing.
- Insure for your own protection.
- Artists should arrange for the shipping provider to do an indoor delivery.

- Shipped entries will be packaged and returned the week of January 13th. 

 

Limitations of liability 

APS recommends that Plexiglass be used, especially for works that will be shipped. Glass is used at artist’s risk. Artists will be responsible for repairs to artwork damaged in shipping (Ex.: broken glass, scratched plexi- glass, excessive pastel dust or dirty mat). When the painting is received, the artist will be contacted. If artist does not wish to arrange to repair the painting, it may be withdrawn from show. Entry fee will not be re- turned. Entering this exhibition shall constitute understanding and agreement on the part of the artist with the conditions stated. APS suggests that artists carry separate insurance. 

 

Note: Permission to reproduce artist’s work for publicity purposes is assumed with acceptance. Our website is Arkansas Pastel Society. The prospectus may be downloaded from the website.
