Connecticut Women Artists (CWA) Annual Members Juried Show 2024

April 9-28, 2024

EVENT SCHEDULE and KEY DATES:

Submissions Open: January 10, 2024 at OnlineJuriedShows.com

Deadline for Submissions: March 1, 2024 at OnlineJuriedShows.com

Notification of Accepted work: March 22, 2024 at OnlineJuriedShows.com (results in your OnlineJuriedShows artist profile)

Drop-off of Accepted work: Friday, April 5, 1 - 3 pm or Saturday, April 6, 10am – 1pm

Exhibition: April 9 - 28, 2024. 

Work must remain for the duration of the show, from delivery to pick up. No early removal.

Gallery Hours during the Exhibition: Saturdays and Sundays, 1 – 3pm

Opening Reception and Awards: Sat. April 13, 2024, 1 -3pm

Pickup: Sunday, April 28. 11am - 2pm. No storage is available; pick up work on this date or designate someone to pick up for you.

PLEASE READ THROUGH THIS ENTIRE PROSPECTUS CAREFULLY. Work will be disqualified if requirements are not met

 

ELIGIBILITY

This show is open to ONLY current members of Connecticut Women  Artists. You must be an up-to-date (2024) paid member to enter the exhibition.

Work must have been completed after April 2021 (created within the last three (3) years maximum.)

Maximum number of entries is three (3); however, only two (2) works may be accepted.

Gallery Sitting Required: This year’s Members Juried Show at the gorgeous light-filled Hartford ArtSpace gallery requires gallery sitting. Artists who have work accepted are expected to sit one afternoon during the exhibit. Artists who  live  outside  a 40-mile radius  of Hartford are NOT required  to sit. Accepted artists will be contacted to sign up for a gallery sitting slot.

 

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS & GUIDELINES

Accepted media:  painting, mixed media, drawing, collage, printmaking, fiber art, photography, sculpture.

Media Not accepted:  Film, video, installation art, performance art, non-artist artificially generated art (AI). Photomechanical reproductions or copies such as giclee prints unless they are part of a mixed media artwork or collage.

SIZE GUIDELINES:  2-D Work--MAXIMUM SIZE: Two-dimensional work 74” high x 52” wide (including frame) with 35 lb. weight limit. Check your H + W. Multiple-panel work such as diptychs, triptychs, etc. count as one work and together must be within the size limit.

3-D Sculpture --MAX size: 30x30x60”; weight limit is 40 lbs. Rent pedestals from ArtSpace for $5 each or provide your own. Please note that there are a limited number of pedestals available for rent at the gallery. You will have the opportunity to request a pedestal for accepted work on the acceptance letter. We cannot accept any special hanging (i.e.: from ceiling) nor can we set up pieces needing assembly. If your piece meets the requirements but needs on-site assembly, you must hand-deliver, set up and remove it in person on the date of installation. Nosubstitutions allowed.

Do not submit artwork previously exhibited in any CWA show.

Work must be original. Copies of other artist’s work are not eligible. Do NOT submit work for which you do not hold the copyright;  it is  not  eligible for awards  and  will not be hung.

ABOUT the JURORS

Hilary Wittmann joined The New Canaan Society for the Arts, Inc. (NCSA) as Executive Director in fall of 2016.  Her career in the Arts began with curatorial and gallery experience, about which she is passionate. A New Canaan resident, she joins their arts organization with experience in exhibition management, marketing and community outreach initiatives.  Hilary sits on the board of the Fritz Eager Foundation for Art Education Inc in New Canaan, the Executive Director Network steering committee of the Fairfield County Cultural Alliance, and on the Exhibit Advisory Committee for the New Canaan Sculpture Trail. Hilary previously served as Marketing Director for the Ridgefield Playhouse and New Canaan Nature Center where she handled strategic initiatives and promotion for hundreds of live events with organizational precision and expertise.  Prior to this, she spent 15 years in the publishing industry, including ten years at The Hearst Corporation where she was the Associate Publisher / Marketing for CosmoGirl Magazine.   She graduated from St. Lawrence University with a BA in Fine Arts. 

 

 

Kristin Peterson Edwards joined the New Canaan Society for the Arts in September 2022 as Director of Special Projects, and is responsible for developing programs and initiatives to expand and further engage the organization’s members and supporters. A post-war and contemporary art expert with over two decades of experience in the international art world, Kristin will also develop exhibit related programming. She has been the Principal of the Arts advisory since 2007 and has held leadership roles with community and arts organizations including the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, the Darien Foundation, Darien EMS Post 53 and the Block Museum of Art at Northwestern University. Her early career includes roles at Cheim + Read and Robert Miller Gallery in New York City.

ACCEPTED WORK

Download forms from link just above accepted letter on Online juried showsfill them out completely prior to delivery and bring the forms with you.

 

2-D Work: must be WIRED and ready to hang. Work that is not prepared correctly will not be exhibited. Wire must be securely attached and have enough slack to be easily hung on a nail but not so much that the wire shows above the frame when it is hung on a wall. Work  will not  be hung  if it doesn’t conform to  these  requirements. Please test!

 

3-D works: bring your own pedestal or $5 cash for rental fee. Please note that there are a limited number of pedestals available for rent at the gallery.  If your work is accepted into the show you will have the opportunity to request a pedestal on the acceptance letter.

 

CHECKLIST for delivery: Download forms from link just above accepted letter on Online Juried Shows and fill them out completely (can we stress this often enough?)

No clip frames, saw-tooth hangers, tacks or pins.

No wet paint. Take your packaging materials with you. Bring  the  following completed forms:

SALES

CWA does not sell work or take a commission. Artist’s contact info will be given to potential buyers.

 

LEGAL

By entering this show, you agree to all stated conditions. Your entry does not guarantee acceptance into exhibit.

CWA, Inc, its officers or agents, and the venue assume no responsibility for loss or damage of any kind during transit, drop off, storage, exhibition, or pick up. Submission of all artworks, framing, and other materials is at the sole risk of the artist.

CWA reserves the right to photograph work or use submitted images for publicity. The show committee reserves the right to reject work for any reason.
