DESCRIPTION

 

This is a call to artists who are members of Oceanside Museum of Art Artist Alliance: You are invited to submit any number of entries for consideration in this juried art exhibition at OMA, which will feature the most outstanding recent works by members of OMA’s Artist Alliance. Artwork will be on view in the large ground floor Gleason Gallery. Submissions will be accepted exclusively through OnlineJuriedShows.com.

 

Artists who are not members of the OMA Artist Alliance but are interested in participating in this exhibition must submit their membership applications for OMA with the Artist Alliance add-on before submitting artwork for consideration. Details on how to join can be found in this prospectus, or at

Grand Prize: Director’s Choice Solo Exhibition Invitational

One artist will be chosen to receive a solo exhibition at OMA opening in late 2024 or early 2025.

There will be three additional prizes:

$1000 First Place

$500 Second Place

$250 Third Place

Exhibition Celebration:

Saturday, November 18, 2023, 5:00-7:00pm

This exhibition will be celebrated with two concurrent exhibitions at OMA:Listening to the Unheard / Drawing the Unseen: Drawings by John HalakaandDeena Altman: Female Rising.

 

Artwork Pick Up from OMA:

Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, April 4-6, 2024, 11:00am-1:00pm

Please do not plan to pick up your artwork on Sunday, April 7, due to the heavy attendance expected at the museum that day.

 

Alternative delivery and pick up date/times may be arranged by appointment

 

ENTRY FEE

$25 for the first entry and $10 for each additional entry. Unlimited entries.

ELIGIBILITY

Artists must be a current OMA member with the Artist Alliance affiliate membership, which can be added to any membership for an additional $20.

Artists who are not members of the OMA Artist Alliance but are interested in participating in this event must become members of OMA at any level with the Artist Alliance add-on affiliate membership before submitting artwork for consideration. Details on how to join can be found in this prospectus.

OMA Artist Alliance can be joined by one of the following methods:

·Online: Visit oma-online.org/membership. Choose any level of membership and then add Artist Alliance (must be done in two transactions)

·By phone: Call the OMA membership center at (760) 435-3724

·In person: Visit Oceanside Museum of Art at 704 Pier View Way, Oceanside CA (please checkwww.oma-online.orgfor public hours)

 

ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS

·Artwork must have been completed within the last five years (2018 or later)

·Priority will be given to works that have not been displayed in an Artist Alliance exhibition (at OMA or off site) in the past five years.

·All submissions must be original works of art. No giclées or other reproductions, with exception of limited edition prints or photography.

·Two- and three-dimensional work no larger than 84” in any direction, including frame, and no heavier than 200 pounds.

·Artists are encouraged to submit a variety of sizes.

·Artwork may be in any media or style.

·Edges of unframed two-dimensional artwork must be clean, finished, or gallery wrapped.

·Hardware: Artwork must be installation-ready upon delivery. For 2-dimensional works, D Rings must be installed on the back at precisely equal distances from the top of all wall-mounted work. Please remove wires.

·A maximum of two artworks per artist will be selected.

The quality of artwork photography may affect your eligibility. Ensure that artwork is photographed in a well-lit environment, and that details are clear. Include only the artwork in the image. If the artwork is three-dimensional, photograph against a neutral/blank background.

 

For best results submit high quality 72 dpi images under 4 MB, and close to 1920 pixels on the longest side. Image files should be jpg.

SALES/COMMISSIONS

Artwork will not be advertised for sale in the gallery.

Should there be any inquiries, the museum will take the name and contact information of the interested party and pass the inquiry on to the artist. The museum will not quote a price for the artwork. All sales will take place privately between the artist and the buyer.

If artists would like to donate any percentage of the sale to OMA post transaction all proceeds will support exhibitions, operations, and educational programming. A donation of 20% is typical.

Artwork must remain in the exhibition through the close of the show.

Either the buyer or the artist may pick up the artwork after the exhibition closes. The museum must be alerted if there will be a different person picking up the artwork than who delivered the work.

 

CONDITIONS

By submitting images, the entrant warrants that they created each of the artworks submitted and that they possess all legal rights to them. The entrant agrees that all submitted images selected by the juror may be used for marketing and promotional purposes related to the event.By providing the images and other information through this entry, the entrant gives permission for OMA and OMA Artist Alliance to use images of accepted artwork for promotion, reference, printed materials and online postings related to this exhibit as well as in future advertising. All images used by OMA and OMA Artist Alliance shall be credited to the artist. Copyright and all other rights remain that of the artist.

ABOUT THE JUROR

 

Jonathon Glus, Executive Director for the Arts & Culture, San Diego

Jonathon joined the City of San Diego in November 2018. He leads and facilitates the strategic vision of the office. Prior to working in San Diego, he was the Director of Culture and Creative Economy for the City of Sacramento, CA where he led the city’s first cultural planning process in more than 20 years. Jonathon set in place an assessment of Sacramento’s film sector and an equity audit of the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission. Prior to Sacramento, he served as the first CEO of Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) for more than nine years. While at HAA, he worked closely with a board of more than 30, multiple committees, staff and partner agencies including VisitHouston, the Greater Houston Partnership, cultural districts and universities. Jonathon co-chaired the tourism committee of VisitHouston, partnered on multiple cultural tourism initiatives, and lead two studies on the creative economy in Houston region. He was also the chairman of the board of Texans for the Arts (TFA), a statewide arts advocacy organization. He was Executive Director of Arts & Culture for the City of Pasadena, CA where he led multiple cultural tourism initiatives and partnerships, represented that city with the Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition & Festival, and led the city’s cultural planning process, in partnership with the Pasadena Arts & Culture Commission. Jonathon began his career with city arts agencies in Evanston, IL, and his arts career with the International Sculpture Center, in Washington, DC where he wrote for SCULPTURE magazine and traveling exhibitions internationally. He studied urban economics and public policy at Indiana University, and art and architectural history at University of Illinois. He also studied at University of Kent, in Canterbury, England, where he focused on British urban policy.
