THEME: Homes, Hamlets & Villages: Style and Lifestyle in Small Towns and Rural Communities
We invite artists to submit works that capture or are inspired by life in small towns and rural communities of the Hudson Valley, Berkshires, and surrounding areas. Subject matter might include: local architecture (houses, historic buildings, townscapes/streetscapes, architectural details or elements); farms, barns, and structures in the landscape; people and/or animals in their environments; portraits; markets, fairs, festivals and events; interiors and still lifes; vehicles, equipment and machinery (vintage or otherwise); back roads and road signage; “Americana”; or whatever you find iconic, distinctive, or visually compelling about small town and/or rural life.
JUROR(S):
Carrie Chen. Carrie is the owner of the Carrie Chen Gallery in Great Barrington. The gallery showcases talented artists locally and globally working in a wide range of styles and media. Linden Scheff. Linden is a Co-Director of the Carrie Haddad Gallery in Hudson, New York. Established in 1991 as the first fine art gallery on Warren Street, the gallery represents professionally committed artists as well as emerging talent in the Hudson Valley specializing in painting, sculpture, works on paper and a variety of techniques in photography.

Wednesday Nelena Sorokin (aka Nelena Soro). A representational and abstract painter, Wednesday is an art instructor with over 45 years experience. She teaches painting and drawing at the Berkshire Art Center and the Springfield Museum. Wednesday received a BA from Smith College and studied at Amherst College with Richard Yarde. She received an MFA in Painting and Drawing from James Madison University. (Website: http://www.nelenasoro.net/)

· Saturday 9/30 - Exhibition Opens to the Public, 1:00 - 5:00 pm; Opening Reception: 4:00 - 6:00 pm
· Sunday 10/29 - Show Closes: 5:00 pm
· Sunday 10/29 - Removal of Artwork (Day 1) 5:00 - 6:00 pm
· Monday 10/30 - Removal of Artwork (Day 2) 10:00 - 11:30 am
ELIGIBILITY:
General: Original works of art created in the last three years, and not previously exhibited at the Academy. Submissions will be accepted from artists who are residents of Columbia County, NY and the following surrounding counties: Rensselaer, Albany, Schenectady, Ulster, Dutchess, Greene and Saratoga, NY; Hampshire and Berkshire in MA; and Litchfield and Fairfield in CT.
Media: Traditional media including but not limited to: watercolor, acrylics, oil/oil pastels, pastels, all drawing media (graphite, charcoal, pen & ink, etc.), photography, collage, mixed media, traditional (numbered) hand-pulled prints, monoprints, encaustics, fine crafts, sculpture and other 3-dimensional works. Digital drawings and digital paintings are acceptable. No Giclee prints. No AI-created images, please.

Size Restrictions: For wall-hung artworks, the maximum size of an entry, including frame, if framed traditionally, must not exceed 36 inches in any direction. Sculpture and other 3-dimensional artworks must be light enough for one person to handle and be able to be hung on the wall, displayed on the floor, an Academy pedestal (up to 30“x30”), or on a shelf provided by the artist. If you have unframed works on paper, please note that we do not have a hanging clip system. Image files must be jpg and under 4 mb. For best results, image files should be 1920 pixels on the longest side @ 72 dpi.
Up to three (3) entries may be submitted by any artist. Work that has more than a single component (such as a diptych) should be included in a single image so that it may be judged as a whole. If you wish to show multiple views of a 3-dimensional work (e.g., front and back), please include all views of the artwork on a single image.

ACCEPTANCE:
Notifications will be made via email during the period. Artists will be instructed to view the results in their OnlineJuriedShows artist profile 8/29 — 9/1/23.
No substitutions of accepted work are allowed. The Academy may rescind the right to exhibit any work misrepresented or unsuitably presented.
All work must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition (i.e., until 5:00 pm on day of closing - Sunday, 10/29).
SALES: The Gallery receives a 35% commission on any work sold. All work must be for sale.

ABOUT THE VENUE:
Housed in a historic landmark 1847 Greek Revival schoolhouse, Spencertown Academy Arts Center presents a variety of arts and cultural programming to an audience of local residents, second homeowners, and tourists from the Hudson Valley and Berkshire regions. Programs include: exhibitions of fine arts and craft; musical performances; spoken word, poetry and drama; workshops and classes.
The Academy, including the gallery, is a not-for-profit institution supported by membership, public and private donations and grant funding. A volunteer committee comprised of professional artists and curators administers the Gallery. The Gallery comprises two exhibition spaces: the larger space is approximately 38’ X 15’ and the smaller is 16’ X 15’. Both rooms have abundant natural light as well as track lighting and 9.5’ ceilings.
