CALL FOR OPAS MEMBER ARTISTS:

This Members’ Exhibition will celebrate the plein air tradition by exhibiting, promoting, and selling an exclusive group of works painted outdoors in the true spirit of plein air painting. Our theme is Ohio’s changing seasons: plein air landscapes that were created in Ohio. Our curator will select the finest plein air works from members-in-good-standing of the Ohio Plein Air Society.

 

ENTRY PROCESS:
This is strictly a curated exhibition for OPAS Members. Entrants are most likely to have at least one (1) painting selected by the curator, except in case of size limitations. Image files submitted must be jpg and under 4 mb. For best results, image files should be 1920 pixels on the longest side @ 72 dpi.

 

ENTRY DEADLINE:

• All entries must be submitted via Online Juried Shows by midnight (PST) Wednesday, August 16, 2023.

• Artists MUST be current members of the Ohio Plein Air Society to submit their works.

ENTRIES AND FEES:

• A non-refundable application fee of $30.00 will be collected from each artist submitting their works.

• This fee is payable online only by credit card via Online Juried Shows ( www.onlinejuriedshows.com )

• This is strictly a curated show - all Curator decisions are final.


CONDITIONS OF ELIGIBILITY:

• All submissions MUST BE ORIGINAL PLEIN AIR PAINTINGS

  (at least 95% completed on location, outside, from direct observation, no use of photography)

• Paintings cannot have been accepted into another OPAS exhibition.

• Paintings should be completed during the calendar years of January 21, 2021 to August 16, 2023.

• Our Curator will be choosing works she feels best represents the essence of plein air painting.

• Please submit your best plein air paintings only. No studio works. No drawings, prints, or other medium.

• Accepted artwork MUST BE framed and fitted with d-rings NOT wire, for hanging in a fine art museum setting. D-rings are installed on the left and right side of the frame between a quarter and a third of the way down from the top.

• Gouache, pastels and watercolors are susceptible to smearing/smudging and MUST BE protected under glass or plexiglass. No drawings or prints or other medium will be accepted.

• Size limit: artwork cannot exceed 30” on the longest side.

• The Zanesville Museum of Art reserves the right to reject any artwork deemed improperly framed or improperly prepared for hanging.

• Any work accepted to the curated show MUST BE present for the duration of the scheduled exhibition.
• No artist may substitute another painting in place of the one that is curated into the exhibition.


AWARDS:

1st Place $500 • 2nd Place $300 • 3rd Place $200 • 4 Honorable Mentions $50 each


JURYING PROCESS:

• Each painting will be selected on an individual basis and not as a group.

• The Curator’s selections will be announced via Online Juried Shows on September 11, 2023. Artists will view the results in their artist profile

DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED PAINTINGS:

• Drop-Off dates: Saturday, October 7, 2023 and Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 10am – 3pm.
• NOTE: 
There will be no other delivery times for this exhibition.
  If you have a problem, do not call the Museum.
  Please work together with others in your area for delivery and pickup or contact the Exhibition Chair.
• Do not ship your accepted paintings to the museum.

• If your accepted painting is sold before the delivery of works to the gallery, you must still hang the accepted painting in the exhibition. No substitutions are allowed.

 

PAINTING LABELS & BIO:
• An object label will hang alongside each painting.

• Please include artist name, title, year, medium, size, for sale or NFS, and insurance value, on a label on the back of the painting. Further instructions to follow.
• Each artist must provide a 50 word maximum bio or artist statement, and label information in a format to be provided. Please be aware that the exhibition chair will be compiling the label info and bios for the Museum and making sure that your bio does not exceed 50 words. Bios will be edited by the Chair if necessary.
• Deadline for receipt of bio and label info TBD.

• If you exceed the 50 word maximum, the Chair is required to edit your statement for the museum.

 

ART SALES & ARTWORK INSURANCE:

• All artwork for this exhibition will be insured by the Zanesville Museum of Art for the duration of the exhibition. And the artist must maintain their own insurance.
• A predetermined sales price and insurance value (fair market) MUST BE provided by the artist for each painting submitted to the show.

• If the painting is not for sale, the gallery still needs an insurance value for the painting.

• Sales and Shipping: The Zanesville Museum of Art will act as agent in the sale of any of the Exhibitors’ artworks. The museum will issue a check to the artist after the close of the exhibition. The Exhibitor/artist will be responsible for the delivery of any sold artwork(s) to the buyer(s). The museum will provide buyer’s contact information at the close of the exhibition in order for the exhibitor/artist to make arrangements.
• The Zanesville Museum of Art charges a 25% commission on sales.

 

EXHIBITION CLOSE AND RETURN OF WORK:

• The exhibition officially ends Saturday, January 6, 2024

• 2024 Pick-up dates: Tues., January 9, (10:00 am – 3:00 pm) or Thurs., Jan. 11, (2:00 pm - 7:30 pm)

10/26/23 - Exhibition Opening, Reception & Awards Presentation (5:30pm – 7:30pm)

1/6/24 - Show concludes

1/9/24 & 1/11/24 - Pick up of artwork.
