JUDGE OF SELECTIONS: Daniel J. Keys was encouraged by his parents to pursue his passion, namely painting; and being entirely home educated, time was very permitting for him to develop his skill as a self taught artist.

He started painting at the age of eleven using a paint set purchased with birthday money. It was later during his impressionable teenage years that Daniel discovered the work of Richard Schmid: a master artist whose works he later began emulating in his own paintings. Since that time Daniel has had the opportunity to paint with his mentor, and Mr. Schmid had become a sort of art advisor to him throughout their close friendship.

Daniel’s work is now highly sought after by discerning collectors and hangs in many prominent collections throughout North America, Europe, and Russia. In addition to his art, he also teaches workshops that often draw students from around the world who seek out his esteemed instruction. He has won numerous awards including the Portrait Society of America’s “Draper Grand Prize 2018” award, and his work has graced the covers of multiple magazines including Art of the West (twice), American ARTIST, American Art Collector, Plein Air Magazine, and the premier European art publication, Pratique des Arts.

JUDGE OF SELECTIONS: Tai Meng Lim is an internationally recognized pastel artist. Tai Meng Lim is a Malaysian, who specializes in pastel, oil, and acrylic paintings. He is a Distinguished Pastelist of the Pastel Society of the West Coast (PSWC-DP), a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America (PSA), a Signature Master of the International Society of Acrylic Painters (ISAP-M), A Signature Member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society (NOAPS). Major magazines such as Pastel Journal Magazine, Pratique des Arts, International Artist, The Artist (UK) and other magazines have published his works and featured articles.

Artist’s Statement

My artistic direction is derived from the exploration and struggles of day-to-day life activities. As such, I tend to tell a story via my paintings. It reflects my personal opinions and feelings about whatever I may wish to convey through painting strokes and my interpretation of art. My painting styles always embodies transformation and change, which is closely connected to my process of self-discovery. I tirelessly play with various methods and techniques to produce and bring to reality the concepts and ideas in pursuit of a deeper understanding of my very self and the environment around me. This truly provides unlimited possibilities as well as endless inspirations, ideas, and queries that can be explored on this journey of mine as an artist, and the creative process, as well as the understanding that comes with it, is simply satisfying.

JUDGE OF SELECTIONS: Kim Lordier received a BFA in Illustration at the Academy of Art University, San Francisco in 1989. Her work has been showcased on the cover of PleinAir Magazine, Art of the West, Southwest Art, and The Pastel Journal as well as featured in in Fine Art Connoisseur, American Artist and The Artist Magazine. Acknowledged by jurors and her peers, Kim has received recognition for her landscapes at major plein air events, international magazine competitions, national pastel society shows and museum exhibitions.
