Maynard Fine Arts Theatre in partnership with NESA offer

A Call for Entries

Mural and 3D Wall Artists

 

WHAT:

We are looking for a permanent mural or 3D work that will be adhered to the 40’ x 30’ outside front wall of the Maynard Fine Arts Theatre in Maynard MA.

 

STIPEND:

The accepted artist will receive $10,000 for the completion of this project.

 

THEME:

A theater or film theme is preferred however something colorful and eye-catching will certainly be juried. All creative ideas are welcome!

 

WHO ARE WE:

Since 1949, Fine Arts Theatre Place has been Maynard’s community theatre. It has been the perfect venue to gather and see first-run, classic, and indie films, have some popcorn, and share an evening with friends and family.

A complete renovation begun in 2013 has restored this gem to its former glory. The goal of the theatre’s newest owners is to establish the theatre as a cultural, educational, and entertainment center for the communities of greater Maynard.

 

TIMELINE:

• Release Call for Artists - Monday April 4, 2022

• Submission Deadline - Wednesday, June 15, 2022 @ 11:59 PM EST

• Notification of Finalist - July, 1, 2022

Members of NESA – $35

Non-members – $60

 

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:

Application Requirements

1. Letter of Interest: Explains your interest in the project.

2. Artist’s Resume or Brief Biography: If submitting as a team, a resume or biography should be submitted for each team member.

3. Professional References: Three professional references familiar with your work and working methods. The list should include addresses and telephone numbers.

4. Work Samples: Applicants are required to submit 3-10 images of previous relevant work, or links to their portfolios. Acceptable file types include JPG.

5. Sketch of planned concept.

6. Description of how you will protect your work against the elements

 

HOW TO ENTER:

If submitting as a team, please have one representative create an account.

If your account has already been created click, Enter this Show at the top or bottom of this page. Upload your Sketch (5). Sketches must be .jpg and under 4 mb. 3-10 Work Samples (4) can be uploaded here as well (if you will be linking to your portfolio for your Work Samples instead, you will do so in your Artist Profile as detailed below). You will select if you are entering a sketch or a work sample on the entry form. Please title your work and select your category. All other fields on the entry form can be left blank.

After uploading your Sketch and Work Samples if applicable, click Go to Review and Check Out. Before completing your payment, you will be asked to provide your Letter of Interest (1), Professional References (3), and Description of how you will protect your work against the elements (6).

Your Artist’s Resume or Brief Biography (2) PDF should be uploaded to your artist profile. Once logged in, click on Your Artist Profile, and then Bio/Statement/Password. Select your bio from your computer and upload to your Artist Profile. If entering as a team, please combine all bios into one PDF file and upload.

If you are providing links to portfolios instead of entering images of your Work Samples (4), please put the links in the Artist Statement box in your Artist Profile.

SITE SPECIFICATIONS:

• The proposed site is a 40’ x 30’ of the theatre building located at 19 Summer Street in Maynard Massachusetts.

• The work will be outdoors and subject to the effects of weather over time.

• The work should be safe for visitors to approach it

• If the work fails in any way, in the first 3 years, the artist is required to remedy the problem.

 

REQUESTED SCOPE OF SERVICES ONCE FINALIST IS CHOSEN:

1. Site observation and analysis.

2. Pre-design Meeting: The successful artist will meet with the project team to discuss the project and ask questions.

3. Discussion of the design.

4. Present Refined Concept Designs and receive feedback on Refined Concept Design.

5. Development of Final Design.

6. Submit Final Design for approval.

7. Produce final digital file of design with description and notes on design specifications.

8. Manage project and communicate with the project team as needed.

 

TIMELINE FOR FINALIST

• Artist Agreement To be executed by July 15, 2022

• Pre-design Meeting - July 22, 2022

• Presentation of Concept Design - July 2022

• Final Design Due - August 10, 2022

• Art Installation -Fall of 2022

*Artist will be responsible for accommodations during installation period.
