IMAGO FOUNDATION for the ARTS announces
A Juried Call for Art
Rising Seas: Envisioning the Future Ocean State
On View: April 21 - May 29, 2022 at Imago Gallery
Artist Reception on Saturday, April 23, 2022 | 5:00 to 8:00 pm
“But doth must suffer a sea-change
Into something rich and strange.”
William Shakespeare, The Tempest
Climate change has been called by some as one of the greatest existential threats humanity faces. As the smallest state in the Union — just 37 miles wide by 48 miles long — Rhode Island is nonetheless blessed with some 400 miles of coastline, counting its many coves, bays, and islands. And, it is along that coastline we are already seeing the impact of climate change as sea levels rise and flooding events worsen.
IFA is seeking artworks envisioning the future impact of projected sea level rise in Rhode Island as a way of increasing awareness about the impact of rising seas on our shoreline, property and natural habitats. Artworks can range from traditional to cutting-edge, limited only by the artist’s creativity. All media except video or screen artworks are welcome.
Artworks will be juried by CHRIS SANCOMB, a Rhode Island artist who has a hybrid practice in design and studio arts that explores the intersection of art and science through a wide range of media. Read more about the juror at: https://www.sancombsculpture.com/bio. All decisions by the juror are final.
Over $500 in CASH AWARDS
As part of the jury process, first, second and third place cash prizes will be awarded. The IFA Exhibiting Artists and Community Members and their family members will not be eligible for awards.
Up to three pieces may be submitted - $25 for the first entry, $35 for two entries and $45 for three entries.
The deadline for on-line submissions is 11:59 pm PST, Sunday, March 20, 2022.
