National Juried Watermedia Exhibition

 

Thank you for considering entry into the 29th Annual juried exhibition hosted by the Red River Watercolor Society. The exhibition runs June 16 through August 20, 2022, at the Plains Art Museum in Fargo, ND.  The Exhibition Juror and Workshop Instructor will be Michael Holter.  Artist Bio.  Artist Workshop.

 

ENTRY DEADLINE:  March 10, 2022

       March 10: Deadline for Entry

      April 8: Notification of Acceptance or Rejection

      May 27- June 8: Shipped and hand delivered paintings accepted at Plains Art Museum

      June 16:    Exhibition opens

      June 21-24: Workshop with Juror Michael Holter

      June 22: Opening Reception (6:00—8PM)

      Awards presentation 7 PM

      The Opening Reception is free and open to all

      August 20: Last day of exhibition

      August 23-31: Hand delivered paintings can be picked up at Plains Art Museum

      August 31: Shipped Paintings returned

 

Awards:  A free catalog will be provided to all entrants to the exhibition.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

Entry Eligibility:

      Open to all artists 18-years of age and older, working in two-dimensional water media on a single piece of watercolor paper or yupo.

      ORIGINAL WORK ONLY.

       No supervision, no class work, no copies of other artists’ work, and no work from photographs not created by the artist.

      Paintings must have been completed within the last two years and not previously exhibited in RRWS National Exhibitions.

      Minimum painting size, excluding mat: 108 square inches (e.g., 9 x 12, 8 x 14, etc.).

                       

Eligible Materials:

      Acceptable materials: water-soluble media only, to include transparent or opaque watercolor, varnished watercolor, gouache, casein, egg tempera, water based ink, water soluble graphite, and acrylic.

      All entries must be on a single piece of watercolor paper, or Yupo.

      Entries must be able to be matted and framed. Matting and framing details are provided in “Requirements for Accepted Work”.

 

Ineligible Materials:      

      No pastels, oil pastels, water-based oils, collage, print images, digital images, or reproductions.

      No works on canvas.

 

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS - DIGITAL IMAGE PREPARATION:

RRWS has partnered with Online Juried Shows for submission of entries.

 

  1. Log on directly to www.OnlineJuriedShows.com to apply for the RRWS  29th Annual National Juried Watermedia Exhibition.
  2. Click on https://www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/CreateNewAccountaaspx to create an account.  Fill-out “Create an Account” form completely.  OJS will walk you through the process in clear steps.
  3. Find the Red River Watercolor Society logo and click on “Enter this Show.” Fill out the entry form in its entirety. The size of the images must be listed to the nearest inch.  Images should be forward facing with the correct side up and not tilted or rotated.
  4. Upload your images. They should be slightly smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi. Images must be in jpeg format, sRGB color space. ***We recommend preparing a 300 dpi jpeg image at the same time in the event the artwork is accepted to the exhibition.

 EXHIBITION ENTRY FEES:

      $35 up to two paintings for non-members

      $25 up to two paintings for RRWS members (need paid membership in advance to enter at member rate) *

      $10 each additional entry (4 entries maximum)

¨        Artists wishing to enter the show at the member rate must join as a RRWS member before applying to the 29th Annual National Juried Watermedia Exhibition.

¨        SIGNATURE STATUS, signified by the letters RRWS, is awarded after acceptance into a RRWS National Juried Watermedia Exhibition three times over a 10-year period.  Continuous paid membership is required (can be paid retroactively).

REGARDING JURY NOTIFICATIONS:

Notifications are sent through ConstantContact from Manager@OnlineJuriedShows.com. To ensure receipt of this notification, please add Manager@OnlineJuriedShows.com to your contact list, or safe senders’ list.

 

On the day of notification, you can do the following, but you will also receive an email notification, sent from ConstantContact, that will state the same.

  1. Go to OnlineJuriedShows.com and log in using your email address and password.
  2. Right above where you just logged in, click "Your Artist Profile." You are now in Your account!
  3. Click the show name and you will see your first image. The jury results will be under the thumbnail view.
  4. As you will see, it will say either "This Image has been Accepted or Declined into the show." Under that sentence, you can click "Read Acceptance (or Declined) Letter." The letter will then be displayed below.
  5. If you submitted more than one piece in the show, go to the next entered piece in the show by clicking the page number, displayed below the thumbnail image.
  6. While you are in your account on OnlineJuriedShows.com, click "Personal Info" and make sure your name, address, phone number, and email address are up to date.

 

NOTE: Please be sure to read your letters in their entirety. Most acceptance letters will ask you to RSVP or will have special instructions you must follow.

REQUIREMENTS FOR ACCEPTED WORK:

 

Image Resolution:

      Artist will provide a 300 ppi/dpi resolution image of accepted painting via email as directed in the Artist Acceptance Letter.

      Image must be in pdf or jpeg file format only.

      All images must be labeled as follows:

¦      LastName, FirstName_TitleofWork

      The image will be used for the catalog and publicity purposes.

 

Matting:

      Mat is required. 

      Use only clean white mats.

¦      Beige, cream, or off-white will not be accepted.

      Thin colored liners no wider than ¼” are acceptable. 

      Floating and unhinged matting is not acceptable. 

 

    Framing:

      Artwork must be framed and follow RRWS frame requirements. Entries that do not comply with framing criteria will be returned at artist’s expense and disqualified from the exhibition.

 

  1. Frames must be:

i.                Black wood or metal only.

                                               i.     NEW for 2022 - In order to properly showcase the artwork and provide a more cohesive exhibition, only black frames are allowed. Silver, gold, or wood-tone frames will not be accepted.

ii.              The face of the frame must be 7/8” inch to 2” inches wide.

iii.             Frame measurements cannot exceed 60 inches in any direction.

iv.             Simple, flat, non-ornate surface

                                               i.     Curved frames will not be accepted.

                                              ii.     Frames must have square corners

v.              Frames must be made of sturdy materials that will withstand shipping and hanging.

vi.             Frame must be wired for hanging.

                                               i.     All wooden frames must use "D" rings to attach the wire on the back of the painting.

1.     Sawtooth hangers are not permitted. 

 

2. All work must be under plexiglass. 

                                               i.     Frame must be sturdy enough to support the artwork without buckling the plexiglass.

                                              ii.     Glass is not permitted

 

3. Minimum IMAGE size excluding mat: 108 square inches (e.g., 9 x 12, 8 x 14, etc.)

 

Shipping:

      Instructions for shipping will be sent via Artist Acceptance Letter.

 

Handling Fees:

      $30/ shipped paintings handling fee.

      Fee payable by check, or money order, payable to the Red River Watercolor Society.

      Must be included with the shipped painting. 

      Include the check and return shipping label in an envelope attached to the back of the painting on the hanging wire. 

      If any damage occurs in shipping, you will be contacted immediately.

      $15/ hand-delivery fee. 

      Check, or money order is due at time of hand delivery of painting.

      All fees must be paid in full prior to acceptance into the following year's exhibition.

 

Sales:

      A 30% donation to RRWS is requested on sales. 

      Once an image is submitted for entry in RRWS Exhibition, purchase price or not for sale (NFS) designation may not be altered or the artist is banned from entering RRWS Exhibitions for two years.

 

Painting withdrawal/removal:

      Accepted paintings must not be changed from the submitted digital entry, nor may paintings be withdrawn once accepted, or the artist is banned from entering RRWS Exhibitions for two years.

      Work may not be removed from the gallery until the close of the exhibition.
