2022 PASTELS IN PARADISE

International Online Show Prospectus

Left Coast Pastel Painters Society

AWARDS: In keeping with our desire to encourage all levels of entries, we have changed our awards structure this year. We will give one top award in each of the following four categories: 1.Portrait/Figure/Animal; 2. Landscape/Seascape; 3. Still Life/Interior; 4. Abstract/Innovative

Our judge will choose the painting he feels is the best in each of these four categories, each of which will be given an equal top award.

After selecting those four, he will then choose the remaining awards based on how well a painter has achieved his/her goal within other themes such as “irresistible impact”, “luscious lines”, “captivating color”, “scintillating shapes”, “intriguingly innovative”, “abstractly speaking”, “vivacious values”, “captivating color”. It will be up to the judge to decide if your painting fits one of these themes best We have asked him to look first for ORIGINALITY of approach to a subject. This way, if you are a not-so-expert painter, but you LOVE using color to depict emotion, or are really good at using a variety of strokes in your work, or have the most fun playing with line (both implied visual directions and actual linear work) to do your painting, etc, you have as much a chance to win one of these awards as anyone else.

JUROR: Mike Beeman, PSA, IAPS-MC, OPA, AIS.

ELIGIBILITY: All National and International artists in Soft Pastel.

ENTRY DEADLINE: The entry form, digital image of work to be submitted and payment of the entry fee must be submitted to OnlineJuriedShows.com no later than January 31, 2022.

ELIGIBLE WORK: Please read carefully to make sure your work meets the following entry requirements. Last year we had to disqualify at least 6 paintings because the artist did not read the whole prospectus!

  • Works must be in dry pastel. No oil pastels. Mixed media must be predominantly dry pastel.
  • Work must be original, not copied from other artists or published materials and from your own reference. Any reference provided by an instructor is not eligible, including an instructor-provided photo, still life setup or model setup.
  • Work that was done in a classroom or workshop scenario is ineligible.
  • All artwork must be originally drawn and not created on top of any type of photographic image.
  • All work must have been created within the last two years.
  • Work may be for sale.  NFS is acceptable.
  • Paintings of nudes will be considered for acceptance.
  • There are no size limitations.
  • These are things that we ask you to consider, which the jurors will be aware of when they are choosing paintings for a show:
  • The top layer of the painting should be at least 80% dry application of pastel.
  • If the outcome of the piece has been significantly and unduly influenced by another artist’s work, the jurors may consider the piece to be ineligible.
  • Works that appear to duplicate a painting previously accepted into an LCPPS show may be ineligible.
  • In our desire to present a fresh new show, LCPPS encourages artists to enter new paintings. We recommend that you submit work that has not been included in a national show during the last 24 months, and has not won an award in any previous exhibition. We ask that you not submit your entries into shows that will be running concurrently.

Failure to meet any of the requirements for eligibility may result in the artwork not being juried. Artwork submitted and accepted into this show that has been shown in a previous LCPPS exhibition will be rejected and one honors point will be taken from the point total of the Artist. If this is a second infraction, the Artist will receive a two-year ban on entering future LCPPS shows.

LCPPS reserves the right to exclude from exhibitions any artwork deemed offensive, or any artwork that violates the laws of the United States, or of state or local governments.
