This is a call to artists who are members of Oceanside Museum of Art Artist Alliance: You are invited to submit any number of entries for consideration in this juried sculpture art exhibition presented by Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) that will take place at the San Diego Botanic Garden (SDBG) in Encinitas, CA.  Submissions will be accepted exclusively through OnlineJuriedShows.com (OJS).

 

Title of Exhibition: “Wild and Beautiful”

 

THIS IS AN OUTDOOR EXHIBITION OF FREE STANDING SCULPTURE, ARTWORK MUST BE ABLE TO WITHSTAND DIRECT EXPOSURE TO THE ELEMENTS

 

There is no theme for this exhibition, but nature-related subjects are encouraged.

Artists who are not members of the OMA Artist Alliance but are interested in participating in this exhibition must become members of Oceanside Museum of Art at any level with the Artist Alliance add-on before submitting artwork for consideration. SUMMARY

  • Exhibition Location: 300 Quail Gardens Dr, Encinitas, CA 92024
  • Eligibility: Must be current Oceanside Museum of Art member with the Artist Alliance add-on.
  • Submissions: All submissions will be processed through onlinejuriedshows.com
  • Submission Fees: $20 for the first entry, $10 for each additional entry, unlimited quantity
  • Artwork Details: 
    • Artwork must be freestanding sculpture
    • All submissions must be original works of art created and owned by the person making the submission.
    • Any and all media will be considered, so long as it can withstand prolonged placement in an outdoor location that may receive direct sunlight, rain, and varying humidity.
    • Subject matter must be appropriate for a public space.
    • Artwork must be installation-ready upon delivery.
    • Artists are required to assist with installation. 
  • Allowable Dimensions
    • Roughly 6-8’ tall, 3-4’ wide, 3-4’ deep, due to restricted capacity to move and place large, heavy artworks
    • Large installations assembled from multiple smaller parts are acceptable 
    • Artwork must be able to be installed by hand without the use of heavy equipment that disturbs plantings
  • PLEASE NOTE Artwork will be placed off public paths and with signage asking visitors not to touch, but will not be under constant supervision. Delicate or easily breakable artwork is not encouraged.
  • PLEASE NOTE Artwork will be installed on bare soil.  It's recommended that artists supply mounting pads for their work.

 

 

DETAILED GUIDELINES FOR ENTRY

 

1. ENTRY DEADLINE: Wednesday, January 20, 2021, 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time (PST).

 

2. EXHIBITION:  Artworks for “Wild and Beautiful” will be selected by juror Kay Colvin and exhibited February 16 through August 1, 2021 at The San Diego Botanic Garden. This exhibition is not themed, but nature related subjects are encouraged.

 

3. ELIGIBILITY: To submit artwork for consideration in this exhibition, you must be a current member of Oceanside Museum of Art at any level with the Artist Alliance add-on. Interested artists who are not a member of the Museum and Artist Alliance must submit their membership application before submitting artwork through Online Juried Shows. 

OMA Artist Alliance can be joined by one of the following methods:

  • In person: Visit Oceanside Museum of Art at 704 Pier View Way, Oceanside CA (please check www.oma-online.org for public hours)

 

4. ONLINE SUBMISSION PROCESS: Entries will be accepted exclusively through www.onlinejuriedshows.com. When entering for the first time, follow the instructions for opening an account and creating a password. Record your password for reuse in all future entries with onlinejuriedshows.com. Scroll down to locate the exhibition “Wild and Beautiful: Artist Alliance Sculpture Exhibition at SDBG” and follow the directions for entry. When filling out your artwork information for this show, please be sure all information and spelling is correct. All information entered by the artist will be used “as is” throughout the entire exhibition. Entry form must be completely and accurately filled out providing all requested information regarding the artwork and the artist. If you are unsure of the actual dimensions of your submissions, please measure for the sake of accuracy.

No changes can be made after the entry deadline, Wednesday, January 20, 2021, 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST).

5. ENTERING YOUR IMAGES: Complete instructions for DIGITAL IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS are found on http://onlinejuriedshows.com/Help.aspx as follows: It is not necessary for digital image file(s) to be pre-formatted to the 1920 x 1920 pixel size. Digital image of each work submitted will be automatically resized. However, for the best image quality it is suggested that each image be submitted at 1920 pixels @ 72dpi on the LONGEST side. A MINIMUM of 800 pixels on its longest side will be accepted. Files may be submitted in JPG, TIFF, BMP or PNG formats.  [Recommended: sRGB color space.] 

 

List sizes up to the nearest inch. Crop the photos to include only the artwork.  Be sure your images are right side up.

Oceanside Museum of Art is not responsible for any technical difficulties with artwork submission. All submission issues will be handled exclusively by Online Juried Shows.

 

Note: The quality of clarity, sharpness, color and lighting of your images contribute greatly to the understanding of your artwork and assists jurors in their decision-making process. If an artwork does not match the appearance of the electronic entry image, it may be rejected after delivery. Please submit your images accordingly
 

6. USE OF IMAGES: By submitting images to the exhibition, the entrant warrants that he/she created each of the artworks submitted for consideration in the exhibition and that he/she possesses all legal rights to them. The entrant agrees that all submitted images selected by our juror may be used for marketing and promotional purposes related to the exhibition. By providing the images and other information through this entry, the entrant gives permission for OMA, OMA Artist Alliance, and SDBG to use images of accepted artwork for promotion, reference, printed materials and online postings related to this exhibit as well as in future advertising. All images used by OMA, OMA Artist Alliance and SDBG shall be credited to the artist. Copyright and all other rights remain that of the artist. 

 

7. ENTRY FEE: At the end of the entry process, payment can be made using a valid credit card. Unlimited numbers of entries per Entrant are allowed. Entry Fees: $20 for the first entry, $10 for each additional entry, unlimited. Entry fees are nonrefundable.

 

8. NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS: Selected artists will receive via email an Acceptance Letter from onlinejuriedshows.com on or before Tuesday, February 2, 2021. Exhibiting artists will also receive a loan form. Detailed instructions will be given in the acceptance letter. 

 

9. IMPORTANT: Please add Services@OnlineJuriedShows.com and Manager@OnlineJuriedShows.com to your safe senders list to ensure all notifications are received.

 

10. CONDITIONS: Final acceptance of entries in the exhibition is up to the Juror and Exhibition Manager’s discretion after viewing the delivered artwork. If artwork does not match the appearance of the electronic entry, if actual dimensions of artwork are different from those noted with the submission, if artwork requires special or unusual lighting or unusual methods of installation that cannot be accommodated, or if the workmanship is not suitable quality for presentation, the artwork will be disqualified and returned at the artist’s expense.

 

11. INSTALLATION: Artwork must be installation-ready upon delivery. Artists are requested to assist with installation. Installation will take place on Monday, February 15, 2021, 11:00am-4:00pm.

 

12. INSURANCE: OMA will provide coverage for the replacement value of the work or the fair costs of repair should loss or damage occur during the course of exhibition. OMA and SDBG will exercise usual care in handling of artwork but cannot be responsible for minor wear resulting from normal handling, or from exposure to the elements. It is up to the artist to know if their work can withstand the elements. 

 

Each exhibiting artist will be required to sign a loan agreement with OMA for loan of the work. Signing of the loan agreement will signify that you allow OMA to act as your agent in agreeing to terms and conditions of the loan.

 

PLEASE NOTE that artwork will be placed off public paths and with signage asking visitors not to touch, but will not be under constant supervision. Extremely delicate or easily breakable artwork is not encouraged.

 

13. SALES:

All sales will be conducted privately between the artist and the interested party. Artist contact information will be listed with the artwork (email and phone number) unless the artist indicates the artwork is Not For Sale (NFS). Sold artwork must remain with the exhibition through the run of the show.  

 

San Diego Botanic Garden requests 10% of the proceeds of any sales and Oceanside Museum of Art requests 25% of the proceeds of any sales. 

 

14. ARTWORK DROP-OFF at SDBG: February 15, 2021, 11:00am to 4:00pm. The garden is located at 300 Quail Gardens Dr, Encinitas, CA 92024. In case of conflict, please contact Katie Dolgov at katie@oma-online.org for assistance with special arrangements.

 

The artist must remove all packing material at the time of drop off.  Packing material will not be stored or provided at time of pick up. 

 

15. ARTWORK PICK UP: Date and time TBD. Artists will be alerted within 6 weeks of the close of the exhibition.

 

16. THE ENTRY FORM IS A CONTRACT: By submitting this entry form, the submitting artist agrees to all terms as stated above.

 

ABOUT THE JUROR: Kay Colvin

Kay Colvin has been involved with art throughout her life, with a BA in fine art and art history, study of Classical and Renaissance Art and Architecture in Italy, and graduate studies in art education. In addition to serving as director of L Street Fine Art Gallery in San Diego for nearly a decade and working on the production team of sculptor Niki de Saint Phalle, Kay has been actively engaged in the arts as design director, columnist, curriculum developer, instructor, curator, exhibition coordinator and practicing artist, as well as board member of several nonprofit arts organizations.

 

ABOUT THE VENUE: San Diego Botanic Garden 

The San Diego Botanic Garden is a 37-acre urban oasis located in the heart of Encinitas with four miles of garden trails and exotic specimen plants from throughout the world. 

 

Garden admission fees are waived for exhibiting artists and one additional guest during the run of the exhibition. Daytime admission (9:00 – 5:00pm) is always free for Garden members – we encourage you to become a member! Visit https://www.sdbgarden.org for SDBG membership and admission information. Parking is free for Garden members and cars with 4 or more passengers; $2.00 for nonmembers.
