ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

This year Plein Air Washington Artists (PAWA) is hosting its Annual Juried 2020 Winter Exhibition online. This exhibition will be judged and awarded by nationally known artist Dave Santillanes. Dave is known for his plein air landscapes, teaches across the North American continent and has received numerous accolades for his plein air and studio-based landscape works. 

Due to the challenging conditions of the Covid-19 restrictions we have broadly opened the parameters of this exhibition to accommodate the wide range of works created by PAWA members this year. Each artist may submit up to three paintings. They may consist of any combination of plein air and/or studio paintings, works created for the PAWA Virtual Paint-Outs, the regional Pop-Ups and indoor or outdoor still life. All works submitted for jurying into the show must be available for sale. 

We are pleased to inform you that the Annual Winter Exhibition book which contains all submitted entries, will be available online for sale during the show.

EXHIBITION GUIDELINES 

Every artist will get at least one piece in upon entering this show. Each artist can enter up to 3 paintings, the highest rated piece will be juried into the online exhibition and up to all 3 may be accepted. 

Images of all submitted paintings will be included in the 2020 Washington En Plein Air book. Please review the section titled Book Publication for more info. 

SUBJECT: 

Paintings must be 2D and contain representational subject matter pertaining to a scene, ranging from landscape to still life. Non-objective abstract works will not be considered in this exhibition. 

Accepted works include: original art painted en plein air (on location) and studio paintings, as well as paintings created from PAWA Virtual Paint Outs, Pop-Ups, works created in your backyard and indoor or outdoor still life. No digital prints from software created works will be accepted into this show for exhibition or sale. 

UNFRAMED: To reduce the overall cost of the painting and shipping. 

SIZE: 

There are no size requirements for this show. All paintings need to be of appropriate size for shipping as the artist is responsible for the upfront cost of shipping, please review sales and shipping guidelines below for more information. 

ENTRY FORMAT: 

Entries will be submitted as digital images at 72 dpi with the longest side at 1920 pixels. 

ENTRY FEES: 

Entries submitted must be available for show and sale. Artists may submit up to 3 images. The fee is $25 for the first entry. A fee of $10 will be charged for each additional entry, maximum total of 3 for $45. All entries must be submitted through www.onlinejuriedshows.com. Entry fees will be paid to onlinejuriedshows.com when entering the exhibition. 

 

 

EXHIBITION RULES 

Accepted entries will be displayed in an online gallery on the PAWA website. Works must be available for sale unframed and ready to be packaged and shipped when sold. 

Digital submissions of images are to be accurate representations of the entrant’s original art works. 

Submission of entries grants PAWA permission to include the image or images in advertising for the exhibition and inclusion in the next volume of Washington En Plein Air. 

Upon submission please include a short description of the painting experience, the location and any other interesting details such as inspiration or incidental observations or happenings during the painting experience. 

Submission of entries and entry fee constitute agreement with all conditions set forth in this prospectus. There will be no exceptions for deadlines, specifications or rules. 

SALES AND PRICING: 

PAWA does not retain any commission from the online sales of work sold in this 2020 Winter Exhibition. Artwork commission sales are 100% retained by the artist so long as the following is met. Keep in mind PAWA will collect sales tax from all paintings sold. And PayPal does charge a 3% fee. Shipping is the sole responsibility of the artist as artwork is to remain in the possession of the artist until sale in this show is confirmed to the artist by our website sales team. Artists must ship works direct to the purchaser within 7 days. To benefit you, the artist, and to receive as close to 100% of the value as possible, we suggest you add the estimated cost of shipping to the value, then add 3% for the PayPal fee. We suggest the artwork be weighed for price of shipping at the preferred shipping company of the artist’s choice before assigning a value to submitted works. Keep in mind, PAWA is not responsible for miscalculated costs or the reduction in money received by not adding these values to the dollar value assigned by the artist. Price of art cannot be changed after entry is submitted. 

SHIPPING AND HANDLING OF ARTWORK: 

Artworks will remain in the possession of the artist for the duration of the exhibition or until shipped after notification of sale. The artist is responsible for care of packaging and shipping of the works direct to the purchaser. Works are to be shipped unframed. Artists must show proof of shipping confirmation by means of a tracking number emailed to the PAWA sales team to receive an artist check for painting(s) sold. Accepted artists will receive an email with more detailed information at the time of sale about the shipment of artwork and reminders of pertinent dates of the event. 

ABOUT THE JURY FOR ENTRIES: 

A jurying committee consisting of two selected members of PAWA and three non-members either professional artists, curators or gallery owners will jury the entries. The decision of the jury is final. There is no refund of entry fees for unaccepted entries.

ELIGIBILITY / REQUIREMENTS/FEES: 

Open to all artists 18 years and older who are a current member of Plein Air Washington Artists or the $30 membership fee must be paid in advance of entering the show.

RESPONSIBILITIES / LIABILITIES: 

Insurance for any loss or damage to artwork is the sole responsibility of the participating artist. We advise that you get shipping insurance. 

PAWA is not accountable for any miscalculation or underestimation of shipping costs and PayPal fees. The artist is responsible for the calculation of value and fees. 

PAWA is not responsible for any damage to artwork while the exhibition runs and the work is solely in the possession of the artist. 

PAWA is not responsible for any damage incurred due to improper packaging, shipping or handling of artwork. The artist grants permission to reproduce work for publicity purposes, both in print and digital galleries. Copyright will be attributed to the artist. 

By entering the show, you agree that you have read and will abide by all rules outlined in this prospectus. 

Entry into this exhibition constitutes agreement with all conditions set forth in this prospectus and is your commitment to participate. 

BOOK PUBLICATION: 

By entering this exhibition, the artist gives permission for PAWA to use the images of each painting for publications in the 2020 volume of the Washington En Plein Air book. 

Please include a biography in your profile at Online Juried Shows which can be used in PAWA publications. 

Descriptions of each work is optional but very helpful for online sales and the book. Book sales will be online during the show.

Dave Santillanes Awards Juror Workshop Instructor 

Dave Santillanes has been painting outdoors for 20 years, learning from his environment to become a nationally recognized landscape painter. His work has been featured in Plein Air Magazine and Southwest Art Magazine and he is a signature member of American Impressionist Society and Oil Painters of America. Dave recently won the award for First Place Honors in the Signature Division of the Oil Painters of America recent online showcase, and the 2020 Quest for the West Artist Choice Award hosted by Eiteljorg Museum. Recently a full article was published about him and his journey as an artist titled ‘Lifelong Journey’ a recommended read featured in the May/June issue of Art of the West Magazine. 

PAWA HAS SCHEDULED A DEMO 

Dave is known for his ability to create depth and atmosphere in his landscapes. Members have a unique opportunity to participate in watching Dave Santillanes paint a live demo with the ability to ask and have questions answered by Dave himself.
