THE GOLD MEDAL EXHIBIT
The California Art League has been identifying one exhibit per year as our most prestigious, as the winner of the best in show receives an engraved Gold Medal, in addition to a cash prize of $500. The gold medal design was conceived of by Henry Von Wolf, CAL’s (formerly the Valley Artists Guild) founder. His bio can be found on CAL’s website under “History”. He was a nationally recognized professional sculptor with many major works on display throughout the country. This year, due to the corvid-19 problems…i.e. no way we can have a gallery exhibit, we are opening up the exhibit to international as well as national and local artists, as shipping will not be a problem and the exhibit will be on-line exclusively, with all accepted pieces on prominent display on CAL’s webs site.
SHOW DATES
October 18th - Saturday December 31st 2020
JUROR – Victor Picou
“I retired from a 30-year career in medicine as a Physician Assistant, to devote my life to a world of art. During most of my medical years, I kept busy in my art studio and by facilitating events for sculptors. Studies at different schools, meeting other artists, and obtaining a BFA at the University of Washington, provided me with an inspiring framework from which to develop a style. Abstract expressionism in drawing and painting, bold, infinite curves in wood and stone, sensual, warm expressions in clay - all these elements can be easily seen in my portfolio that spans 5 decades. My art reflects my values in socio-political events, nature, organic form, human gesture and whimsy.
Having been an early member of Northwest Stone Sculptors Assn. in Seattle, (1986), my leadership established their annual symposium, which is still a very successful event for stone sculptors. My insights helped develop other symposiums also in Oregon, British Columbia, and California. I was the first president for California Sculptors Symposium, 501c3, 2005.
Up until the pandemic, I had been a regular volunteer art tutor since 2007 at Tierra del Sol, a school for adults with developmental disabilities. As an active member of Pasadena Society of Artists since 2004, I served as PSA Co-Program Director for 3 years, and as President since 2013.
While always busy in my own studio, I have exhibited frequently in the LA area, Palm Springs, and wherever PSA has exhibited. “

In this respect all artwork should be original and created from conception to completion by the artist within the last three years and not previously shown in any CAL Show. Artists are permitted to use their own photos as reference materials in the creation of their artwork, but not photos from other sources. No artwork copied from other artists work, copyrighted work, published or internet photos, or created under the direct guidance of an instructor are eligible.

All entrants may enter additional artwork for a $5 per piece fee up to a total of 5 entries. Payment is made through Online Juried Shows via credit card or Pay Pal. Fees are non-refundable. There is no guarantee of acceptance into the show.
New members whose work is juried in to this show will be considered “exhibiting members” and will be eligible to submit work as an exhibiting member for acceptance in all future CAL shows.
FORMAT FOR DIGITAL IMAGES (JPGS) AND HOW TO SEND THEM
All entries must be submitted in a digital JPEG format. Take photo or art with a digital camera on a black background (if cropping is not possible) without a mat and not through glass. Image quality is critical! Poor photography and presentation will affect acceptance by the juror. The digital image must represent the painting. Directions for submitting work to Juried Online Shows is clearly described on the website in several topics listed on the sidebar of the main page: http://www.onlinejuriedshows.com/HowToEnter.aspx
If your 2-D work has special feature(s) that cannot be properly represented in a single image, enter it as a 3-D entry and include 1 or 2 supplemental images that emphasize that property (texture, brush work, special reflections, etc.)
