Making Their Mark: American Women Artists

(Application dates: November 1, 2019 – January 27, 2020)

Exhibition dates: May 27 – August 23, 2020

 

EXHBITION DETAIL

AWA is pleased to announce their fifth museum exhibition, at the Booth Western Art Museum, as part of American Women Artists’ 25 in 25 campaign, an initiative to have twenty-five museum shows for its members over the next 25 years. The Booth Museum is a prestigious venue in Cartersville, Georgia, with one of the country’s largest collections of Western Art. This exhibit will have up to 110 2-D and 3-D works in the style and theme of the artist’s choosing.  The museum is not requiring Western-themed art. 

 

There Will Be A $10,000 Grand Prize Cash Award! 

 

In addition to approximately $30,000 in cash and merchandise awards, final works selected will appear on AWA’s website gallery, be featured in our monthly e-newsletters, and promoted through AWA’s social media channels. AWA is dedicated to providing professional opportunities for women in the visual arts.  We invite you to join AWA as an Associate member and enter our national juried exhibitions.

 

ELIGIBILITY

Open to women at least 18 years of age, who are working in the fine arts and living in the United States or Canada. To submit works, applicants MUST BE A 2020 MEMBER of American Women Artists. If you would like to join as a new member, or renew your membership (starting November 1), please email membership@americanwomenartists.org. If you do not pay for your 2020 membership by the submission deadline (January 27, 2020), your entry will be disqualified.  

 

American Women Artists seeks to select an exhibition of fine art demonstrating excellence in terms of composition, technique, mastery of medium and quality of design. The final selection will be an exemplary showcase of a diverse group of representational and abstract artworks by artists who draw, paint, and sculpt. 

 

ENTRY GUIDELINES

  1. The 2020 National Juried Museum Exhibition is open to AWA Members in good standing
  2. Applications may be submitted from November 1, 2019 – January 27, 2020, 11:59 pm PST. Finalists will be announced no later than February 4, 2020.
  3. Only on-line entries will be accepted for this show. NO MAILED SUBMISSIONS ACCEPTED. Please submit all entries through www.onlinejuriedshows.com starting November 1, 2019. 
  4. Entries must be of original concept and design. They are not required to be Western themed.
  5. Acceptable mediums for painting: oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, egg tempera, pastel, color ink, and encaustic.  Works must have been completed in the past 2 years and have not been shown in a prior AWA show (exception: works shown in AWA’s Spring Online Show can be submitted).
  6. Acceptable mediums for drawing:  conte crayon, colored pencil, graphite, charcoal, pen & ink, scratchboard and original hand-pulled prints. Works must have been completed in the past 2 years and have not been shown in a prior AWA show (exception: works shown in AWA’s Spring Online Show can be submitted).
  7. Acceptable mediums for sculpture:  cast metal, fabricated metal, stone, glass, wood, and any fired permanent medium such as terra cotta, stoneware, porcelain, earthenware.

  8. Mixed medium and collage pieces using the above-listed materials, as well as the use of textiles or fabric art, are acceptable.
  9. Not acceptable mediums include craft, jewelry, photography, digital prints, textiles, fiber art, and any work containing computer generated elements of any kind.
  10. Maximum entries: six (6)
  11. Maximum of one (1) piece of artwork per accepted artist will be juried into the exhibition
  12. Maximum size for paintings and drawings is up to 40” on the longest side unframed,
  13. Maximum size for sculpture: No size limit. Weight limit of 200 lbs.
  14. All works submitted for the juried exhibition must be for sale.  All works submitted for the competition must be available for sale after acceptance into the show.
  15. By submitting images to this juried opportunity, you understand and agree that accepted images will be displayed on AWA’s website, Facebook page, and other social and/or print media.  Images do become part of AWA’s archives and may be used for this and future AWA promotions. Artists will retain copyright to their image(s)
  16. By entering this exhibition, you agree that you have read and will abide by all rules outlined in this prospectus
  17. All membership and jury fees are non-refundable; overpayment of any fee will be considered a donation and will not be refunded
  18. All Artists accepted into the exhibition will be expected to contribute $120 towards a show catalog (unless we have an underwriter and the fee can be reduced)
  19. The Museum reserves the right to refuse any work(s).

 

APPLICATION

The National Juried Exhibition application process will begin November 1, 2019 – January 27, 2020, at 5 pm PST.  Finalists will be announced by February 4, 2020 on AWA’s blog page.  The entry form must be filled out in its entirety.  List sizes up to the nearest inch (high x wide). Submitted images must not include matting or frame. Crop the photos to include only the artwork. Be sure your images are right-side-up.

 

Before uploading your images, make sure they are 72 dpi and a maximum size of 1920 pixels on the longest side, and no smaller than 800 pixels on the shortest side.  Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space. ENTRY FEES

$55.00 for up to TWO (2) ENTRIES. Each additional entry $10.00 up to maximum of 6 entries. Entry fees are non-refundable.

 

You must be a current (or new) Member of AWA to enter Juried Exhibition.  2020 Dues must be paid by January 27, 2020 or submission is disqualified.

Electronic payment for jury fees should be made through onlinejuriedshows.com via credit card at time of application.  Membership dues can be paid separately by emailing membership@americanwomenartists.org for an invoice that can be paid directly with a credit card, PayPal, or by mailing a check to: AWA, PO Box 1611, Lodi, CA 95241.

AWARDS

There will be cash and merchandise awards. Award packages are designed to support, encourage and inspire women in the visual fine arts. 

 

JURORS

Selection jurors for AWA’s National Juried Competition work independently to assess the entries for selection to finalists. Each year, a different panel of selection jurors is chosen. Lisa Wheeler, Director of Curatorial Services at The Booth Museum will select the finalists. 

 

AWARDS JURORS

Three Awards jurors will be selected from the Atlanta/Carterville region.

 

JURYING NOTIFICATION

All jury status notifications will be posted on onlinejuriedshows.com no later than February 4, 2019.  A list of accepted artists and their works will be posted on the blog page at www.americanwomenartists.org no later than February 4, 2019. This will be a highly selective show. One piece per finalist will be selected to exhibit at the Booth Western Art Museum. The full show will also be posted on AWA’s Gallery web page by April 24, 2019.

 

ACCEPTED WORKS

The decision of the jurors is final. All accepted artists will be provided with a consignment form to be completed, signed and returned to AWA by the end of February. Once accepted, works may be pre-sold but must hang in the Museum for duration of show and proceeds must be shared with the Booth Museum and AWA, under Commission terms outlined below. All accepted Paintings & Drawings must be framed or gallery-wrapped (gallery wrapped must be finished, painted around edge, no tape), and wired for hanging. Accepted Sculpture must be ready to place with any stands and title plates securely fastened.  Stone sculpture may be shipped without a base attached only if clear, simple, well-labeled assembly instructions are included and any needed installation materials (like museum putty) are included with the sculpture.  Accepted artists will be offered Advertising Opportunities in two to three different national publications.  The museum reserves the right to refuse a work, though it may have juried into the show.

 

SALES COMMISSION

2D artists: will receive 55% of the selling price.

35% to the Booth Museum and 10% will go to AWA (non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization).

3D artists: will receive 60% of the selling price.

30% to the Booth Museum and 10% will go to AWA (non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization).

Artwork must be priced in accordance with artist’s current pricing structure.

Payment for work sold will be made directly to the artist from the Booth by the 10th of the month following the sale. Sales tax will be collected and paid by the Museum.

 

SHIPPING

A Shipping Instructions form will be supplied by AWA to all finalists and a copy of this form must be included in the package with the work. Each accepted Artist is responsible for the delivery of their shipped or hand delivered work to: Booth Western Art Museum, 501 Museum Drive, Cartersville, Georgia 30120, during the following dates: April 9 – 23, 2020 

 

LIABILITIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, SALES

By entering this exhibition, the artist agrees that they have read and will abide by all rules outlined in this prospectus. All membership and jury fees are non-refundable. Overpayment of any fee will be considered a donation and will not be refunded. Submission of work for this exhibit will be construed as acceptance of all conditions set forth in prospectus. AWA and the Booth Museum reserve the right to return work that does not meet exhibition standards. Every reasonable care will be taken with original artwork.  The Booth Museum will be responsible for insurance of artwork while at the Booth Museum for the amount specified on Record of Consignment.  The Artist is responsible for insurance of artwork to cover the full value of the artwork while in transit.
