Artist Alliance Biennial 2019

This is a call to artists who are members of Oceanside Museum of Art Artist Alliance: You are invited to submit any number of entries for consideration in this juried art exhibition presented at Oceanside Museum of Art. Artwork will be on view throughout the entire second floor of the museum. Submissions will be accepted exclusively through OnlineJuriedShows.com (OJS).
Artists who are not members of the OMA Artist Alliance but are interested in participating in this exhibition must submit their membership applications for OMA with the Artist Alliance add-on before submitting artwork for consideration. Details on how to join can be found in this prospectus. (See Item # 3 under Detailed Guidelines for Entry.)
Thank you for being a part of OMA. Your submission fees (less OJS listing fee) and membership dues go toward supporting the museum’s exhibitions and educational programming.

“Juror’s Choice” Exhibition Invitational Grand Prize
One artist will be chosen from the exhibition as a “juror’s choice” and will receive a solo exhibition at OMA opening in June, 2020.

SUMMARY

· Eligibility: Must be current OMA member with the Artist Alliance add-on.

· Submission Fees: $20 for the first entry, $10 for each additional entry, unlimited quantity
· Artwork Details:
o Priority will be given to works that have not been displayed as part of an Artist Alliance exhibition in the past five years.
o All submissions must be original works of art. No giclees or other reproductions, with exception of limited edition prints and/or photography.
o Artwork may be in any media or style and must be appropriate for all ages.
· Allowable Dimensions:
o Two- and three-dimensional work no larger than 84” in any direction, including frame, and no heavier than 150 pounds.
o Artists are encouraged to submit a variety of sizes.
o If you are unsure of the dimensions of your submissions, please measure for the sake of accuracy. Artwork delivered with dimensions other than those stated in submission may be rejected and/or returned at artist’s expense. If your piece is framed, please include accurate unframed and framed measurements in your submission.
· Artwork Specifications:
o Edges of unframed two-dimensional artwork must be clean, finished, or gallery wrapped.
o Hardware: Artwork must be installation-ready upon delivery. D Rings must be installed on the back at precisely equal distances from the top of all wall-mounted work. Please remove wires prior to delivery.
DETAILED GUIDELINES FOR ENTRY
1. ENTRY DEADLINE: 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST), September 30, 2019.
2. EXHIBITION: Artworks for “Artist Alliance Bienniel 2019” will be selected by co-jurors Maria Mingalone and Robert Pincus. The exhibition runs December 21, 2019 to May 242020 at Oceanside Museum of Art.
3. ELIGIBILITY: To submit artwork for consideration in this exhibition, you must be a current member of OMA with the Artist Alliance add-on. Interested artists who are not a member of the Museum and Artist Alliance must submit their membership application before submitting artwork through OJS.
OMA and Artist Alliance can be joined by one of the following methods:

4. ONLINE SUBMISSION PROCESS: Entries will be accepted exclusively through onlinejuriedshows.com. When entering for the first time, follow the instructions for opening an account and creating a password. Record your password for reuse in all future entries with onlinejuriedshows.com. Scroll down to locate the exhibition “Artist Alliance Bienniel 2019” and follow the directions for entry. When filling out your artwork information for this show, please be sure all information and spelling is correct. All information entered by the artist will be used “as is” throughout the entire exhibition. Entry form must be completely and accurately filled out providing all requested information regarding the artwork and the artist. If you are unsure of the actual dimensions of your submissions, please measure for the sake of accuracy.

- ENTERING YOUR IMAGES: Complete instructions for DIGITAL IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS are found on http://onlinejuriedshows.com/Help.aspx as follows: It is not necessary for digital image file(s) to be pre-formatted to the 1920 x 1920 pixel size. Digital image of each work submitted will be automatically resized. However, for the best image quality it is suggested that each image be submitted at 1920 pixels @ 72dpi on the LONGEST side. A MINIMUM of 800 pixels on its longest side will be accepted. Files may be submitted in JPG, TIFF, BMP or PNG formats. [Recommended: sRGB color space.]
List sizes up to the nearest half inch. Submitted images must not include matting or frame. Crop the photos to include only the artwork. Be sure your images are right side up.

Note: The quality of clarity, sharpness, color, and lighting of your images contribute greatly to the understanding of your artwork and assists jurors in their decision-making process. If an artwork does not match the appearance of the electronic entry image, it may be rejected after delivery. Please submit your images accordingly.
- USE OF IMAGES: By submitting images to the exhibition, the entrant warrants that he/she created each of the artworks submitted for consideration in the exhibition and that he/she possesses all legal rights to them. By providing the images and other information through this entry, the entrant gives permission for OMA and OMA Artist Alliance to use images of accepted artwork for promotion, reference, printed materials and online postings related to this exhibit as well as in future advertising. All images used by OMA and OMA Artist Alliance shall be credited to the artist wherever possible. Copyright and all other rights remain that of the artist.
- ENTRY FEE: At the end of the entry process, payment can be made using a valid credit card. Unlimited numbers of entries per Entrant are allowed. Entry Fees: $20 for the first entry, $10 for each additional entry, unlimited. Entry fees are nonrefundable.
- NOTIFICATION OF RESULTS: Selected artists will receive via email an Acceptance Letter from onlinejuriedshows.com on or before Friday, October 18, 2019. Detailed instructions will be given in the acceptance letter. Exhibiting artists will also receive a loan agreement, which must be completed, signed, and delivered with artwork.

- CONDITIONS: Final acceptance of entries in the exhibition is up to the Jurors’ and Exhibition Coordinator’s discretion after viewing the delivered artwork. See further ARTWORK SPECIFICATION details under the SUMMARY at the beginning of this prospectus. If artwork does not match these artwork specifications it will be disqualified and returned at the artist’s expense.
- INSURANCE: OMA will assume insurance responsibility for the object upon receipt and inspection and during the exhibition. OMA is not liable for any claim or loss, theft or damage of any kind during transportation. OMA will provide coverage for the replacement value of the work or the fair costs of repair should loss or damage occur during the course of exhibition. OMA will exercise usual care in handling of artwork but cannot be responsible for minor wear resulting from normal handling.
12. ARTWORK INTAKE
Drop-off at OMA: Wednesday December 4 and Thursday December 5, 11:00am to 4:00pm.
Shipping: Artwork may also be shipped to the museum. Please package artwork securely for shipment – OMA cannot be held responsible for damage sustained during shipping through a third-party carrier (UPS, FedEx, etc). All shipped artwork must include a return shipping postage label in the package.
13. ARTWORK RETURN: Artwork must remain with the exhibition until after the exhibition closes on May 24. Artwork pickup at OMA is scheduled for on Wednesday May 27 and Thursday May 28, 11:00am to 4:00pm.
The museum must be alerted if there will be a different person picking up the artwork than who delivered the work to the museum
- SALES: Artwork will not be advertised for sale in the gallery. If the artwork is available for sale, please indicate the price on your submission.
Should there be any inquiries, the museum will take the name and contact information of the interested party and pass the inquiry on to the artist. The museum will not quote a price for the artwork, even if a price is indicated with the submission. All sales will take place privately between the artist and the buyer.
If artists would like to donate any percentage of the sale to OMA post transaction all proceeds will support exhibitions, operations, and educational programming. A donation of 20% is typical.
Either the buyer or the artist may pick up the artwork after the exhibition closes. The museum must be alerted if there will be a different person picking up the artwork than who delivered the work.
- THE ENTRY FORM IS A CONTRACT: By submitting this entry form, the submitting artist agrees to all terms as stated above.
ABOUT THE JURORS:
Maria Mingalone
Maria joined Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) in the fall of 2016 after fourteen years at the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, Massachusetts as Director of Curatorial Affairs and Collections. She holds a Master's of Science degree in museum education and leadership from the Bank Street Graduate School of Education in New York, NY. Maria’s background includes not only knowledge in curating and museum education, but also 25 years of progressive museum and nonprofit management expertise. She was the executive director of The Interlaken School of Art, and Lower Eastside Printshop (NYC), and director of education at Socrates Sculpture Park (LIC) where she worked for Mark di Suvero.
As executive director at the Oceanside Museum of Art, Maria brings vision, continuity of leadership, and creative stability to this much loved San Diego institution.
Robert Pincus
Robert L. Pincus, PhD, served as the art critic of The San Diego Union-Tribune for 25 years, beginning in 1985. From 1981 to 1985, he was an art critic for the Los Angeles Times.
He is the author of a seminal book on American artists Edward Kienholz and Nancy Reddin Kienholz, entitled On a Scale that Competes with the World. He has contributed essays to many other books and exhibition catalogs, including But Is It Art? The Spirit of Art as Activism and Behold, America! Art of the United States from Three San Diego Museums.
For four decades, he has written regularly for numerous magazines, including Art in America, Artforum and Art News and he has contributed to many other publications, including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times. In the past two years, he has written catalogs to accompany exhibitions of David Adey, Doris Bittar, Robert Irwin and Lee Materazzi.
He teaches courses in art writing, theory and criticism at California State University, Long Beach and has been on the faculty of the art, architecture and art history program at the University of San Diego since 1998.
