Jurors of Selection:

Jacob Aguiar, PSA

Jacob, a nationally recognized pastel artist, lives with his wife and dog in Scarborough, Maine, where he paints the nearby marshes and rocky coast. Aguiar views painting as a way to offer respite, both for him and the viewers of his paintings. He has won several international awards including the Award of Excellence (second place overall) in the 19th Annual Pastel 100 Competition; third place overall in the 2017 Annual PleinAir Salon; and first place in the 2017 UART Pastel Paper Online Exhibition. His work has been featured in a number of publications, including Southwest Art, Plein Air Magazine, American Art Collector, and Pastel Journal. He currently splits his time as an integrative naturopathic physician and a professional artist. A traveler at heart, he enjoys visiting new areas and teaching workshops throughout the country and internationally. You can follow the artist on Facebook or Instagram at www.jacobaguiar.com.

Christine Ivers, PSA MP, IAPS MC

Chris and her husband David live in Central Connecticut. Her artwork has been described as vibrant and textural with dynamic light. She has won numerous awards and has paintings in private collections throughout New England. Her paintings were chosen by the International Association of Pastel Societies as one of eight finalists worldwide in two of the IAPS cover competitions and Ivers was inducted into the IAPS Master Circle of Pastelists. Her work has been published in Best of American Artists Pastel Edition, Practiqué des Arts (a French publication featuring artists from around the world), American Art Collector Magazine, The Pastel Journal and was honored with the Art Spirit Foundation Silver Medal Award for Excellence in Pastel at the Salmagundi Club in NYC. Ivers is also a Master Pastelist of the Pastel Society of America where she is a former member of the PSA Board of Governors and is the current Vice President of IAPS. To view her work visit www.christineivers.com.

Judge of Awards:

Dave Francis, PSA MP, IAPS MC

Dave has painted professionally for more than twenty-five years. His work in pastel has mainly been an exploration of the still life genre. Francis feels that, “still-life paintings do not have to be boring, repetitive works of flowers, vases, and such items”. He selects nontraditional items such as children's toys, blocks, bricks, almost anything he can find and uses them as subject matter. He enjoys injecting his personality and sense of humor into his paintings. The artist's work has been included in and won awards at numerous national pastel exhibitions across the country. He is a Signature Member with the Pastel Society of America with Master Pastelist designation. In 2016, he achieved the prestigious Master's Circle Award with IAPS. He and his wife Linda make their home in Hudson Falls, NY. For examples of Dave's work visit www.defrancispastels.com.

Best in Show ($300), 2nd Place ($200), 3rd Place ($100), Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod Award (75$) and the Mallory Lake Memorial Prize (Pastel Set).
