Annual Juried Small Works Exhibition

EDWARD HOPPER HOUSE ART CENTER welcomes applicants to its 21st annual Small Matters of Great Importance juried exhibition, held in two gallery rooms of Edward Hopper’s birthplace and childhood home, now a non-profit art center and museum.  The exhibition celebrates small works that make big statements despite their size.

THEME: The theme for this year’s exhibitions is “En Route.”  In celebration of the new bridge being built across Edward Hopper’s beloved Hudson River and in recognition of Hopper’s frequent use of travel themes in his paintings, we invite artists to submit work that refers in some way to travel, journeys, movement, etc.

JUROR:  Kenise Barnes, Director of Kenise Barnes Fine Art in Larchmont, NY.  Kenise has degrees in painting and women’s studies.  She gained early experience as the specialist in charge of contemporary art at Christie’s East.  With more than 20 years experience in the arts, Kenise is a frequent guest curator, speaker and advisor.

ELIGIBILITY:  Open to all artists age 18 and over working in any medium.  Artwork must not exceed 12” x 12” (or 144” sq. inches), including frame. Sculpture limited to 40 lbs.  Viewing equipment (monitor, DVD player) must be provided for selected video entries.  Work must have been executed within the past two years, not previously shown at the Edward Hopper House, and framed and ready to hang (if applicable).

SELECTION:  Entries are viewed anonymously. Selections are based on interpretation of theme, technique, and originality.  The quality of reproductions is an important factor in making selections, as is the presentation of a cohesive body of work that reflects a discernable artistic sensibility.  If chosen, all three works submitted will be exhibited.
