Principle Gallery Charleston
Women Painting Women

Timeline:
The deadline for submission is Friday, July 18, 2014. Final selection will be made and artists accepted to the exhibition will be notified July 25th. Accepted work must be framed and shipped and have arrived at the gallery no later than September 2nd. The exhibition will open September 5th and will be on display through September 30th.

Theme:
Women Painting Women
In 2009, artists Alia El-Bermani, Diane Feissel and Sadie Valeri co-founded the blog entitled Women Painting Women. The concept came out of an online discussion detailing how contemporary women artists handle the female figure as a subject. Inspired by these discussions but failing to find a comprehensive online resource cataloguing the work of such artists, the site was started as a way of highlighting underrepresented female artists actively portraying female subjects in the figurative tradition. Since then, Women Painting Women has featured, on the blog, the work of more than 340 figurative painters from around the world and has helped to organize eight exhibitions in galleries in the US and UK.  These efforts continue this year as Principle Gallery in Charleston, SC hosts the 2014 Women Painting Women Juried Exhibition.

We are pleased to announce that one of the jurors for this exhibition will be Allison Malafronte. Allison is a writer, editor, curator, consultant, and creative entrepreneur who has worked in the art industry for nearly 10 years. The former editor of American Artist and Fine Art Today, Allison has recently founded the consulting agency Art Independent LLC.

Guidelines:
Note: All art must be for sale. By entering work in this show, you the artist agree to allow Principle Gallery to use images of the selected artworks for promotional purposes and on our website.

This exhibition will be comprised of between 45 and 60 works, depending on the size of the selected pieces. An individual artist may have up to two works accepted to be a part of the exhibition, although there is no limit to how many works may be submitted for consideration by one artist.

To be accepted, the work must be a painting (no photography, drawing, 3 dimensional, etc.) and must measure, unframed, no more than 36 inches along the longest edge. Work must be sent already framed and ready to hang, and the artist will be responsible for paying for round-trip shipping by including a pre-paid return shipping label with their piece.
