BOTANICA: Artist Alliance at SD Botanic Garden
On View: September 30, 2018 to November 1, 2018
This is a call to artists who are members of Oceanside Museum of Art Artist Alliance: You are invited to submit any number of entries for consideration in this juried art exhibition presented by Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) that will take place at the San Diego Botanic Garden in Encinitas, CA.
Theme: All things related to Botanicals. Consider artwork with landscapes, trees, leaves, flowers, desertscapes, underwater plants, any and all types of foliage, or any subject matter including the above.
Juror: Naomi Nussbaum (see the juror’s bio at the end of the Detailed Guidelines for Entry)
Artists who are not a member of the OMA Artist Alliance but are interested in participating in this exhibition must submit their membership application for Oceanside Museum of Art with the Artist Alliance add-on before submitting artwork for consideration. SUMMARY
- Exhibition Location: Ecke Building gallery, San Diego Botanic Garden, 230 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas, CA 92024.
- Eligibility: Must be current Oceanside Museum of Art member with the Artist Alliance add-on.
·Submission Fees: $20 for the first entry, $10 for additional entries
- Artwork details:
- Original two-dimensional work, no larger than 50” high x 50” wide INCLUDING FRAME.
- Original wall hanging three-dimensional work, no larger than 50” tall x 50” wide x 4” deep INCLUDING FRAME. Artwork must be wall mounted and ADA compliant, i.e. protruding no more than 4” from the wall.
- Artwork may be in any media or style and must be appropriate for all ages.
- Submissions: All submissions will be processed through onlinejuriedshows.com
- A maximum of two (2) artworks per artist may be selected by the juror.

- Submissions open: June 4, 2018
- Submissions close: August 6, 2018, 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time (PST)
- Final acceptances announced: On or before August 23, 2018
- Artwork drop-off at SD Botanic Garden: Saturday, September 29, 2018, 10:00am and 12:00pm

GUIDELINES:
You are encouraged to submit a variety of sizes. There are many spaces for smaller pieces.
- If you are unsure of the external dimensions of your submissions, please measure for the sake of accuracy. If artwork arrives at the gallery larger than submitted dimensions, it may be rejected and returned at artist’s expense.
- Artwork must be appropriate for all ages. Tasteful nudity is allowed.
- Artwork requiring special or unusual lighting, electricity, or methods of installation cannot be accommodated.
- If the artwork is unframed, edges must be finished, gallery wrapped, or painted out.
D Rings must be installed on the back at precisely equal distances from the top. Please no wires.
- Selected artwork must be delivered to SD Botanic Garden’s Ecke Building gallery Saturday, September 29, 10:00am - 12:00pm. If there is a conflict please contact Kay Colvin at kay@oma-online.org to assist with special arrangements.
DETAILED GUIDELINES FOR ENTRY
1. ENTRY DEADLINE: 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST), August 6, 2018.
2. EXHIBITION: Artworks will be selected by juror Naomi Nussbaum to be exhibited September 30, 2018, through November 1, 2018 in the Ecke Building Gallery at San Diego Botanic Garden, located at 230 Quail Gardens Drive, Encinitas, CA.
3. ELIGIBILITY: To submit artwork for consideration in this exhibition, you must be a current member of Oceanside Museum of Art with the Artist Alliance add-on. Artists who are not a member of the museum and Artist Alliance but are interested in participating in this exhibition must submit their membership application before submitting artwork through Online Juried Shows. When filling out your artwork information for this show, please be sure all information and spelling is correct. All information entered by the artist will be used “as is” throughout the entire exhibition. Entry form must be completely and accurately filled out providing all requested information regarding the artwork and the artist. No changes can be made after the entry deadline, 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST), August 6, 2018.

- ENTERING YOUR IMAGES:
Entry form must be filled out in its entirety. List sizes up to the nearest half inch. Submitted images must not include matting or frame. Crop the photos to include only the artwork. Be sure your images are right-side-up.
Before uploading your images, make sure they are smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi. Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space. Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at: www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx. If you need further help entering your images, please send email to: www.onlinejuriedshows.com/Contact.aspx to request assistance.
DIGITAL IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS: Complete instructions are found on http://onlinejuriedshows.com/Help.aspx as follows: It is not necessary for digital image file(s) to be pre-formatted to the 1920 x 1920 pixel size. Digital image of each work submitted will be automatically resized. However, for the best image quality it is suggested that each image be submitted at 1920 pixels @ 72dpi on the LONGEST side. A MINIMUM of 800 pixels on its longest side will be accepted. Files may be submitted in JPG, TIFF, BMP or PNG formats.

Important: the quality of photography contributes greatly to the clarity, sharpness, color, lighting and understanding of your artwork and assists jurors in their decision-making process. - USE OF IMAGES: By submitting images to the exhibition, the entrant warrants that he/she created each of the artwork(s) submitted for consideration in the exhibition and that he/she possesses all legal rights to them. The entrant agrees that all submitted images selected by our judge may be used for marketing and promotional purposes related to the exhibition. By providing the images and other information through this entry, the entrant gives permission for OMA, OMA Artist Alliance, and San Diego Botanic Garden to use images of accepted artwork for promotion, reference, printed materials and online postings as well as in future advertising. All images used by OMA, OMA Artist Alliance, and San Diego Botanic Garden shall have a credit line of the artist. Copyright and all other rights remain that of the artist.
- ENTRY FEE: At the end of the entry process, payment can be made using or a valid credit card. Entry fees are nonrefundable. Unlimited numbers of entries per Entrant are allowed. Entry Fees are $20 for the first entry and $10 for each additional entry.
- ELIGIBILITY OF ARTWORK: Artwork may be two-dimensional, no larger than 50” tall x 50” wide INCLUDING FRAME. Three-dimensional artwork must be wall-hanging and no larger than 50” tall x 50” wide x 4” deep INCLUDING FRAME. Artwork may be in any media or style. Originals only.

- NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE: Entrants whose work is accepted will receive an emailed Acceptance Letter from onlinejuriedshows.com on or before August 23, 2018. Exhibiting artists will also receive a loan form. Detailed instructions will be given in the acceptance letter.
- CONDITIONS: Final acceptance of entries in the exhibition is up to the Juror’s and Exhibition Coordinator’s discretion after viewing the delivered artwork. If an artwork does not match the appearance of the electronic entry, if actual dimensions of artwork are larger than noted with the submission, if artwork requires special or unusual lighting or methods of installation that cannot be accommodated, or if the workmanship, framing, or edge finish is not suitable quality for gallery presentation, the artwork will be disqualified and returned at the artist’s expense.
All work delivered must be ready to hang with D-rings installed on reverse at precisely equal distance from the top of artwork. Please no wires. If work that is not ready to hang is delivered, it will not be accepted at drop off or included in the exhibition.
OMA will provide coverage for the replacement value of the work or the fair costs of repair should loss or damage occur during the course of exhibition. OMA and San Diego Botanic Garden will exercise usual care in handling of artwork but cannot be responsible for minor wear resulting from normal handling.
Each exhibiting artist will be required to sign a loan agreement with OMA for loan of the work. Signing of the loan agreement will signify that you allow OMA to act as your agent in agreeing to terms and conditions of the loan.
- ARTWORK DROP-OFF AT SD Botanic Garden: September 29, 10:00am – 12:00pm
Artwork must be delivered to SD Botanic Garden on Saturday, September 29, 10:00am - 12:00pm without exception. If there is a conflict please contact Kay Colvin at kay@oma-online.org to assist with arrangements.
The artist must remove all packing material at the time of drop off. Packing material will not be stored or provided at time of pick up.
ARTWORK PICK UP: Artwork must remain with the exhibition until deinstall on November 2, 10:00am – 12:00pm. The artist must bring any needed packing materials at the time of pick up.
- SALES:
All sales will be conducted privately between the artist and the interested party. Artist contact information will be listed with the artwork (email and phone number) unless the artist indicates the artwork is Not For Sale (NFS). Sold artwork must remain with the exhibition through the run of the show.
San Diego Botanic Garden requests 10% of sales. Donations to OMA from sales are appreciated but not mandatory, 20% of the proceeds is recommended.

ABOUT THE JUROR:
Naomi Nussbaum is a professional arts consultant with over 30 years of experience in arts administration and non-profit arts management. In 2003, she established her own consulting business, Naomi Nussbaum Art & Design, which specializes in comprehensive visual arts, public art consulting and programming, as well as curatorial services. Her company has been retained by developers, architects, landscape architects, contractors, and interior designers often in design/build projects. As curator, she has orchestrated both interior and exterior exhibitions both in California and abroad. Since 2010, she has been the annual curator for the San Diego Botanic Garden’s Sculpture in the Garden Exhibition, orchestrating up to thirty artists and up to seventy artworks per exhibition. In 2003, Ms. Nussbaum also founded Synergy Arts Foundation, a non-profit arts organization that supports local artists of all disciplines and provides arts programming to at-risk and underserved populations. She has also served on the board of numerous non-profit organizations. Most recently, she co-founded North County Arts Network whose mission is to invigorate the arts community, enhance quality of life, and encourage prosperity in North County.
ABOUT THE VENUE:
The San Diego Botanic Garden is a 37-acre urban oasis located in the heart of Encinitas with four miles of garden trails and exotic specimen plants from throughout the world. The Garden serves a perfect backdrop for our BOTANICA exhibition on display in the Ecke Building from September 30 through November 1, 2018. The Ecke Building hosts many events and meetings, providing considerable visibility for artists and their artworks.
Garden admission fees are waived for artists and their guests for the opening reception October 14. Garden admission is also free for San Diego County residents on Tuesday, October 2. On all other days, paid admission to the Garden is your admission to view the BOTANICA exhibit. Daytime admission (9:00 – 5:00pm) is always free for Garden members. (Visit https://www.sdbgarden.org for SDBG membership and admission information.) Parking is free for Garden members and cars with 4 or more passengers; $2.00 for nonmembers.
