Libraries and learning, honoring the Pacific Grove Library’s 110th Anniversary

A Fine Art Juried Show

April 6 – July 6, 2018

“Books are our best, our wisest, and most faithful companions.  They instruct, they entertain, and they console us…  They are the bridges that span the centuries.”  These words were part of the speech given by Horace Platt at the dedication ceremony to begin construction of the library building.  Built with a grant from the Carnegie Foundation, the library has been in continuous use since 1908.

Artists are invited to celebrate the beauty and magic of libraries, reading, and books with innovation and creativity.

Original two and three-dimensional artwork in all media including but not limited to: painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, mixed media, fiber, and paper art, woodworking, and sculpture.  No 2D submissions larger than 900 sq. inches.   Ink jet reproductions on canvas will not be accepted.

Entry Fees
$30 for up to three entries, $5 for each additional entry, up to a total of five entries.  Entry fees are non-refundable and must be paid by the entry deadline.  Acceptance is not guaranteed.

Entering Your Images
•    Entry form must be filled out in its entirety.  List sizes up to the nearest inch.  Submitted images must not include matting or frame.  Crop the photos to include only the artwork.  Be sure your images are right-side-up.
•    Before uploading your images, make sure they are smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi.  Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space.  Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at:  If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please write to us here:
•    Please add and to your safe senders list to ensure notifications are received.

Exhibition Calendar 2018
March 11 - Deadline to submit entries.
March 16 - Notification of accepted entries.
March 27 - April 1, Shipped artwork must arrive at the library.
March 31, 10AM - 2PM Drop off hand-delivered artwork.
April 6, 5:30-7:30 - Artists Opening reception.
July 6, 5-7:30 PM - Closing Reception.
July 6, after 7:30PM and July 7, 10AM - 2PM - Pickup hand delivered artwork.
All artists are invited and encouraged to attend the opening and closing receptions.

Accepted Work
All two-dimensional work must be suitably framed and wired for hanging.  PGPL will provide stands for sculpture.

The Friends of the Library will handle sales with a 30% commission for the Friends of the Library and 70% for the artist.

Shipping Instructions (accepted work only)
Include pre-paid shipping labels for return of your work plus $15 check made out to Friends of PG Library, for handling shipped art.
1.    Work must be packaged in a professional packing box.
2.    Pack work so that it can be easily re-packaged with the same materials.
3.    No Styrofoam peanuts.
4.    Work should be insured for its full value.

While every precaution will be taken to protect the artwork, PGPL is not responsible for loss or damage of any kind.  Delivering artwork to this exhibition implies agreement with these conditions.

REGARDING JURY NOTIFICATIONS:  Notifications are sent through ConstantContact from  To ensure receipt of this notification, please add to your contact list, or safe senders’ list.

On the day of notification, you can do the following, but you will also receive an email notification, sent from ConstantContact, that will state the same.

1.      Go to and log in using your email address and password.

2.      Right above where you just logged in, click "Your Artist Profile."  You are now in Your account!

3.      Click the show name and you will see your first image.  The jury results will be under the thumbnail view.

4.      As you will see, it will say either "This Image has been Accepted or Declined in to the show."  Under that sentence, you can click "Read Acceptance (or Declined) Letter."  The letter will then be displayed below.

5.      If you submitted more than one piece in the show, go to the next entered piece in the show by clicking the page number, displayed below the thumbnail image.

6.      While you are in your account on, click "Personal Info" and make sure your name, address, phone number, and email address are up-to-date.


NOTE:  Please be sure to read your letters in their entirety.  Most acceptance letters will ask you to RSVP or will have special instructions you must follow.
