Celebrating our 5th juried art exhibition and sale; Art Matters attracts some of the country’s best artists and is open to all painters and photographers.

The event will be held at The Huntington, the magnificent 207-acre estate Henry and Arabella Huntington bequeathed to the public in 1927.  More than 600,000 visitors each year have a unique opportunity to delight in fabulous art, displayed in five galleries, stroll through extensive and varied gardens, and view rare books and manuscripts in the library.

Qualifying Art:
Paintings– Oils, Watercolor, Acrylic, Pastel, Mixed Media and Gouache
Photography – Black and White or Color
All the above will be juried.
All submitted art MUST be available for sale.

Subject Matter:
Figurative, Landscape, Still Life, Abstract

Size restrictions:
All accepted artwork must be framed and ready for display with a maximum of 864 square inches (24”x36”) and minimum of 64 square inches (8”x8”). A series of small works can be considered as one entry, but must be photographed as such, and must fit into an area not to exceed 864 square inches.   All work must have screw eyes or D-rings, strong wire and be ready to hang.

Image Submission:
This is a juried exhibition and sale.  Each artist may submit up to 3 digital images to OnlineJuriedShows.com for the jury selection process. The jury will judge each piece of art individually, based on the image entered with no more than 3 pieces of art chosen per artist. Judges score the image only while the artist remains anonymous.
•    Entry form must be filled out in its entirety.  List sizes up to the nearest inch.  Submitted images must not include matting or frame.  Crop the photos to include only the artwork.  Be sure your images are right-side-up.

•    Before uploading your images, make sure they are smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi.  Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space.  Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at:  www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx.  If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please write to us here:  https://onlinejuriedshows.com/Contact.aspx

•    Please add Services@OnlineJuriedShows.com and Manager@OnlineJuriedShows.com to your safe senders list to ensure notifications are received.

Entry Fee:
SML Members - $10 for 3 entries.  Keystone Artists - entries are complimentary.  Non-members - $45 for up to 3 entries.  Entry fees are non-refundable and must be paid on or before March 8, 2018.  Acceptance of art submissions is not guaranteed.

Cash Awards: (include, but are not limited to)
$1000   Best in Show
$500     2nd Place
$250     3rd Place
$300     Best Depiction of an Iconic Landscape or Structure in Pasadena or surrounding areas*
$100     New Artist: An artist who is entering ART MATTERS for the first time.

*Such as, but not limited to, the Pasadena Arroyo Bridge, Pasadena City Hall, San Gabriel Mountains, Santa Anita Race Track, Downtown LA, Classic beach imagery, The Huntington.

Awards will be determined by our judge, from actual works of art, not from digital images.  Artists do not need to be present to win.

Paint Out
All accepted artists will be given the opportunity to paint for 3 days, April 16-18, in the magnificent gardens at The Huntington. These paintings will not be part of the juried show but can be included in the sale.

Commission:
50% to the Artist, 50% to the San Marino League. These proceeds will be divided equally between each of our two beneficiaries: student fine arts scholarships at Art Center College of Design and The Huntington Library, Art Collections and Botanical Gardens.

Delivery for Local Artists:
Monday April 30 and Tuesday, May 2 to The Huntington

Shipping for Non-Local Artists:
Must be received no later than Friday, April 27

Artists who cannot deliver their art will be responsible for the cost of crating, handling, and shipping artwork to and from the exhibition via Box & Ship in Pasadena, CA. Box and Ship will charge a $40 handling feel for receiving, delivering and returning any unsold art.

Note: Additional delivery and shipping instructions will be provided upon acceptance.

March 27:  Notification of acceptance

April 16, 17, 18:  Paint Out in the magnificent gardens at The Huntington for all accepted artists.

Monday, April 30 and Tuesday, May 1:  Deliver accepted and framed work to The Huntington.

Opening Night & Sale:  Friday, May 4, by invitation only, 1 free ticket per artist.

Exhibit and Sale:  May 4-6, 2018

Pick up Artwork:  Sunday, May 6, 2-4 PM at The Huntington.

REGARDING JURY NOTIFICATIONS:  Notifications are sent through ConstantContact from Manager@OnlineJuriedShows.com.  To ensure receipt of this notification, please add Manager@OnlineJuriedShows.com to your contact list, or safe senders’ list.

On the day of notification, you can do the following, but you will also receive an email notification, sent from ConstantContact, that will state the same.

1.      Go to OnlineJuriedShows.com and log in using your email address and password.

2.      Right above where you just logged in, click "Your Artist Profile."  You are now in Your account!

3.      Click the show name and you will see your first image.  The jury results will be under the thumbnail view.

4.      As you will see, it will say either "This Image has been Accepted or Declined in to the show."  Under that sentence, you can click "Read Acceptance (or Declined) Letter."  The letter will then be displayed below.

5.      If you submitted more than one piece in the show, go to the next entered piece in the show by clicking the page number, displayed below the thumbnail image.

6.      While you are in your account on OnlineJuriedShows.com, click "Personal Info" and make sure your name, address, phone number, and email address are up-to-date.

 

NOTE:  Please be sure to read your letters in their entirety.  Most acceptance letters will ask you to RSVP or will have special instructions you must follow.
