This is a call to artists who are members of Oceanside Museum of Art Artist Alliance: You are invited to submit any number of entries for consideration in this juried art exhibition presented by Oceanside Museum of Art (OMA) that will take place at Front Porch Gallery in Carlsbad Village.

Please submit artwork that explores the theme of “Transcending”:

The definition of “Transcending” is 1. To rise above or go beyond; overpass; exceed: 2. To outdo or exceed in excellence, elevation, extent, degree, etc.; surpass; excel. 3. to be above and independent of (the universe, time, etc.).

Get creative with your interpretation of that theme!

Artists who are not a member of the OMA Artist Alliance but are interested in participating in this exhibition must submit their membership application for Oceanside Museum of Art with the Artist Alliance add-on before submitting artwork for consideration. Details on how to join can be found in this prospectus.

SUMMARY
•    Fees: $20 for first entry, $10 for additional entries.
•    Artwork details:
      o    Original two-dimensional work, no larger than 60” tall x 42” wide INCLUDING FRAME.
      o    Original three-dimensional work, no larger than 60” tall x 42” wide x 36” deep.
      o    Artwork may be in any media or style.
•    Eligibility: Must be current Oceanside Museum of Art member with the Artist Alliance add-on.
•    Location: Front Porch Gallery, 2903 Carlsbad Blvd, Carlsbad, CA 92008
•    Submission: All submissions will be taken through onlinejuriedshows.com.
•    Up to three (3) entries per artist may be selected by the juror.

GUIDELINES
•    The theme is “Transcending.”
•    Tasteful nudity is allowed.
•    You are encouraged to submit a variety of sizes!
•    EXTERNAL DIMENSIONS OF THE ARTWORK ARE CRITICAL Please double check the external dimensions of your artwork when preparing your submission.
•    If you are unsure of the actual dimensions of your submissions, please measure for the sake of accuracy.
•    If artwork arrives at the gallery larger than submitted dimensions, it will be rejected and returned at artist’s expense.
•    Artwork should be ready to hang, no screw eye or saw-tooth hangers, D-rings are preferred. Artwork requiring special installation hardware needs to be provided by artist.
•    If the artwork is not framed, edges must be finished, gallery wrapped, or painted out.
•    Artwork must be delivered to Front Porch Gallery during the specified dates/times. If there is a conflict please contact katie@oma-online.org to assist with arrangements.

TIMELINE
•    Submissions open: August 1, 2017
•    Submissions close: October 2, 2017, 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time (PST)
      o    If you would like your artwork to be considered for use on the exhibition post card, you must submit BEFORE SEPTEMBER 15. Artwork chosen for the postcard will be included in the exhibition. Submissions for the exhibition will continue through October 2. All acceptances and postcard choice(s) will be announced on or before October 17.
•    Final acceptances announced: On or before October 17, 2017
•    Artwork drop-off at Front Porch Gallery: November 8, 9, and 10, 2017, 12:00–6:00pm; November 11 and 12, 2017, 11:00am–5:00pm
•    Exhibition on view: November 19, 2017-January 13, 2018
•    Reception: November 19, 12:00-2:00pm, at Front Porch Gallery
•    Artwork pick-up from Front Porch Gallery: January 14, 2018, 11:00am–5:00pm; January 17, 18, and 19, 2018, 12:00–6:00pm; January 20, 2018, 11:00am–5:00pm

JUROR BIOGRAPHY: JULIE WEAVERLING
In her 12th year serving as Assistant Director of Front Porch Gallery, a nonprofit gallery in Carlsbad, CA, Julie curates exhibits and manages an eclectic retail collection, working with region based artists and numerous artist groups and other non-profits to promote the gallery’s belief that Art Creates Community. Additionally, Julie juries exhibitions both for the gallery and outside organizations.

As an artist, Julie’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Most recently, Julie was invited to create a collection of original (non-objective mixed media) paintings for sale through an exclusive partnership between Crate and Barrel and UGallery.com.

DETAILED GUIDELINES FOR ENTRY

1.    ENTRY DEADLINE:  October 2, 2017, 11:59 p.m. PST

2.    EXHIBITION:  Artworks will be chosen by Julie Weaverling, director of the Front Porch Gallery, to be exhibited November 19, 2017 through January 13, 2018 at Front Porch Gallery, located at 2903 Carlsbad Blvd, Carlsbad, CA 92008.

       Please submit artwork that explores the theme of “Transcending”:

       Selection of artworks for inclusion in the exhibition is entirely the decision of the juror. The juror’s selections are final. Entrants contacting the juror in advance of selections will be disqualified.  

3.    ELIGIBILITY: To submit artwork for consideration in this exhibition, you must be a current member of Oceanside Museum of Art with the Artist Alliance add-on. Artists who are not a member of the museum and Artist Alliance but are interested in participating in this exhibition must submit their membership application before submitting artwork through Online Juried Shows. 4.    ONLINE ENTRY PROCESS: Entries will be accepted exclusively through onlinejuriedshows.com. When entering for the first time, follow the instructions for opening an account and creating a password. Record your password for reuse in all future entries with onlinejuriedshows.com. Scroll down to locate the exhibition “Transcending: Artist Alliance at Front Porch” and follow the directions for entry. When filling out your artwork information for this show, please be sure all information and spelling is correct. All information entered by the artist will be used “as is” throughout the entire exhibition. Entry form must be completely and accurately filled out providing all requested information regarding the artwork and the artist. No changes can be made after the entry deadline, 11:59 PM Pacific Standard Time (PST), October 2, 2017.

5.    ENTERING YOUR IMAGES:
       Entry form must be filled out in its entirety. List sizes up to the nearest inch. Submitted images must not include matting or frame.  Crop the photos to include only the artwork. Be sure your images are right-side-up.

       Before uploading your images, make sure they are smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi.  Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space.  Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at:  www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx.  If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please write to us here:  https://onlinejuriedshows.com/Contact.aspx

       Oceanside Museum of Art is not responsible for any technical difficulties with artwork submission. All submission issues will be handled exclusively by Online Juried Shows.

       Important: the quality of photography contributes greatly to the clarity, sharpness, color, lighting and understanding of your artwork and assists jurors in their decision-making process. If an artwork does not match the appearance of the electronic entry image, it may be rejected after delivery. Please submit your image(s) accordingly.
 
6.    USE OF IMAGES: By submitting images to the exhibition, the entrant warrants that he/she created each of the artwork(s) submitted for consideration in the exhibition and that he/she possesses all legal rights to them. The entrant agrees that all submitted images selected by our judge may be used for marketing and promotional purposes related to the exhibition. By providing the images and other information through this entry, the entrant gives permission for OMA and Front Porch Gallery to use images of accepted artwork for promotion, reference, printed materials and online postings as well as in future advertising. All images used by OMA and Front Porch Gallery shall have a credit line of the artist. Copyright and all other rights remain that of the artist.

7.    ENTRY FEE: At the end of the entry process, payment can be made using or a valid credit card or PayPal.  Entry fees are nonrefundable and must be paid by the entry deadline. Unlimited numbers of entries per Entrant are allowed. Entry Fees are $20 for the first entry and $10 for each additional entry.

8.    ELIGIBILITY OF ARTWORK: Artwork may be two-dimensional, original 2-dimensional work no larger than 60” tall x 42” wide INCLUDING FRAME. Original three-dimensional work, no larger than 60” tall x 42” wide x 36” deep.

      Submissions are open to visual artists working in all media. Originals only. Tasteful nudity is allowed.

      The theme is “Transcending.”

      Artwork should be ready to hang, no screw eye or saw-tooth hangers, D-rings are preferred. Artwork requiring special installation hardware needs to be provided by artist.

      If artwork not framed, edges must be finished, gallery wrapped, or painted out.

9.    NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE: Entrants whose work is accepted will receive an emailed notice from onlinejuriedshows.com (see yellow highlighted section on your payment receipt) on or before October 17, 2017. Exhibiting artists will also receive a loan form. Detailed instructions will be given in the acceptance letter.

       If you would like your artwork to be considered for use on the exhibition post card, you must submit BEFORE SEPTEMBER 15. Artwork chosen for the postcard will be included in the exhibition. Submissions for the exhibition will continue through October 2. All acceptances and postcard choice(s) will be announced on October 17.

10.   CONDITIONS: Final acceptance of entries in the exhibition is up to the Juror’s discretion after viewing the delivered artwork. If an artwork does not match the appearance of the electronic entry, if actual dimensions of artwork are larger than noted with the submission, if artwork requires special or unusual lighting or methods of installation that cannot be accommodated, or if the workmanship, framing, or edge finish is not suitable quality for gallery presentation, the artwork will be disqualified and returned at the artist’s expense.

       Front Porch Gallery will assume insurance responsibility for the object from the time it is delivered to the Gallery until the artwork is returned to the owner or lender.

       Front Porch Gallery will exercise the usual care in handling and will provide coverage for the replacement value of the work or the fair costs of repair. They cannot be responsible for minor wear resulting from normal handling. Each artist in the exhibition will be required to sign a loan agreement with OMA for loan of the work. Signing of the loan agreement will signify that you allow OMA to act as your agent in agreeing to consignment terms and all other terms and conditions of the loan.

11.   ARTWORK DROP-OFF AT FRONT PORCH GALLERY:
        November 8-10, 12:00-6:00pm
        November 11-12, 11:00am-5:00pm

        Artwork must be delivered to Front Porch Gallery during the specified dates/times without exception. If there is a conflict, please contact katie@oma-online.org to assist with arrangements.

        All work delivered must be ready to hang.

        The artist must remove all packing material at the time of drop off.  Packing material will not be stored or provided at time of drop off and pick up.

12.   ARTWORK PICK UP: Artwork must remain with the exhibition through the conclusion of the show on January 13, 2018.

        Pick up dates:
        January 14, 2018, 11:00am-5:00pm
        January 17-19 12:00-6:00pm
        January 20, 2018, 11:00am-5:00pm

13.   SALES: All sales will be transacted through the Front Porch Gallery store desk. If the artist chooses to list their artwork for sale, exhibited work will be available for purchase during the course of the exhibition at the price specified on the title card for each item. However, artwork must remain with the exhibition through the run of the show.

       The gallery director will alert artists if their artwork sells and will supply a W-9 form to be completed by the artist. 50% of the proceeds of the sale will be distributed to the artist.

       Signing of the loan agreement will signify that you allow OMA to act as your agent in agreeing to consignment terms.

14.   ABOUT OMA ARTIST ALLIANCE: The Artist Alliance is an affiliate group of membership dedicated to the support of Oceanside Museum of Art. Artist Alliance provides opportunities for interaction, visibility, and growth for artists in the region.

       The mission of Oceanside Museum of Art is to educate and inspire the public through a diverse range of engaging exhibitions and programs that connect people with regional, as well as national and global, artists and art forms of the 20th and 21st centuries. OMA operates as a private, non-profit 501 (c) (3) corporation.

15.   THE ENTRY FORM IS A CONTRACT:  By submitting this entry form, the submitter agrees to all terms as stated above.
