2017 Annual Exhibit

 

The Valley Watercolor Society will hold its 2017 Annual Exhibit at the San Fernando Valley Arts & Cultural Center in Tarzana from Tuesday, March 14, to Saturday, April 1, 2017.

The Juror is Brenda Swenson, artist, author and teacher. Her Keeping a Watercolor Sketchbook was a finalist for the Award of Excellence. She also wrote Steps to Success in Watercolor and her artwork has been featured in Splash 11, 12 & 14, Artistic Touch 4, Creative Freedom, Watercolor Artist, Watercolor Magazine, Watercolor Highlights, Wheels of Time, Plein Air Magazine and other publications and she has two DVDs on watercolor techniques. Brenda has achieved signature status in WW, NWWS and SDWS and has served on the Board of Directors for the National Watercolor Society and Watercolor West.

Honorable Mentions: Up to eight awards of gift certificates and merchandise at the discretion of the juror.

Show closes: Saturday, April 1, 2017
Pick-Up: Saturday, April 1, 2017 5 – 7 P.M.

Entering Your Images:
Before uploading your images, make sure they are smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi.  Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space.  Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at:  www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx.  If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please write to us here:  www.onlinejuriedshows.com/Contact.aspx

Entry and Fees:

Entry will be by www.OnlineJuriedShows.com. Up to three paintings may be entered. There will be a charge of $40 for one or two paintings. There will be an additional fee of $5 for the optional third entry.  Entry fees are non-refundable and must be paid by the entry deadline.

Eligibility:
This show is open only to members of the Valley Watercolor Society whose dues are current.

Guidelines:
Entries must be original work done in water media and completed within the past two years. All work must be at least 80% water based media. Collage is acceptable only if incorporated into a larger work and treated with water media. All work must be original work from the artist. No digital artwork, work produced under instruction, work derived from another’s intellectual property or from copyrighted references will be accepted. No repainted giclees or other reproductions can be entered. No painting previously exhibited in a Valley Watercolor Society Show may be submitted.

Requirements:
Submitted images must not include matting or frame. No framed painting may be larger than 40 inches in any direction. Each entry must be framed and glazed with Plexiglass (glass is not acceptable) and matted in a neutral color. Each painting must have a wire hanger, positioned so that it is 2” below the top of the frame. Sawtooth hangers are not acceptable.

Details of the painting, including artist’s name, phone number and title of the work, size and price, are to be attached to the top right hand side of the back of the work. A form will be sent with emails of accepted work. No price may be changed once the painting is accepted into the show. Works not for sale should be designated: NFS.

Sitting the gallery:  Each exhibiting artist will be required to sit the gallery for one three-hour shift, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. or 2p.m. to 5 p.m Tuesday through Saturday. Sign-up must be completed at the take-in by the artist or his or her representative. It will be the responsibility of the artist to find a replacement if he or she is unable to complete this commitment.

All entrants, regardless of whether their work has been juried into the exhibit, may submit up to 10 items as “bin art” for the Gift Shop. Bin art should be matted and shrink wrapped or in protective sleeves. These items may be originals or reproductions. Forms will be included with the notification letters. Each item must be clearly marked with the name of the artist, size, title, type and price.

Delivery & Pick-up:
Exhibiting artists must hand deliver their work to the gallery on Monday, March 13, 2017, between six and eight p.m. and pick up their work on Saturday, April 1, 2017, between five and seven p.m. No painting can be left at the gallery and artists must make other arrangements if they are unable to personally collect their work.

Commission:
The San Fernando Valley Arts & Cultural Center takes a 30% commission on all sales and artists should consider this in pricing their work. Payments to artists will be made by the gallery by the 15th day of the month following the exhibit.

Liability:
All artwork will be handled with the utmost care. Neither the VWS nor the San Fernando Arts & Cultural Center nor any agent, employee or volunteer will be responsible for the damage or loss of artwork.
