Prospectus Outline
Eligibility
The Tustin Art Walk Plein Air Contest is open to anyone 14 years of age and up.
Entering Your Images
Entry form must be filled out in its entirety, including unframed dimensions (or size), framed dimensions (if not known, estimate it) or weight, medium, and price, if requested. List sizes up to the nearest half inch. Submitted images must not include matting or frame. Crop the photos to include only the artwork. Be sure your images are right-side-up.
For best results, make sure your image is 1920 pixels @72 dpi on the longest side. Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space. Categories/Fees
The entry fee for the Plein Air Contest is $30 and includes one (1) entry into the contest.
The entry fee for an Artist Space is $35 and includes one (1) sidewalk space in Old Town Tustin.
The entry fee for artists wishing to enter the Plein Air Contest and have an Artist Space is $60.
Jurors
1. The jurors for event participation are members of the Tustin Art Walk planning committee made up of community volunteers and City of Tustin staff.
2. For the Plein Air Contest, awards judging by local art experts will be held on site at the Tustin Art Walk in Old Town Tustin on Saturday, October 15, 2016.
Event Details
The Plein Air Contest is an element in the 9th Annual Old Town Tustin Art Walk presented by the City of Tustin Parks and Recreation Department on October 15, 2016, from 12:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Held along the historic streets of Old Town Tustin (El Camino Real and Main Street), the Art Walk will brings local artists, merchants, restaurants, and visitors of all ages together for a one-day celebration of fine art. Free to the public, the event will feature local artists, live music, wine tasting, a photography contest display, a high school art exhibit, and docent led bus tours of Historic Old Town Tustin.
Boundaries for the Plein Air Contest
All Plein Air Contest entries submitted for judging on October 15 must be painted within the contest boundaries of Historic Old Town Tustin and contain any scene or subject of the artist’s choice. Boundaries are within the streets of 6th Street to the South, Irvine Blvd. to the North, Prospect Avenue to the East, and Pasadena Avenue to the West.
Sales
The Tustin Art Walk does not take a commission of any sales made by artists.
Plein Air artists may sell their contest entries after the winners are announced.
Artists with an Artist Space must display their own original work. Work displayed the day of the event must be same quality or higher as to the images submitted with original application. Artists displaying work of lesser quality to what was approved will be asked to remove such pieces. Prints must be reproductions of artist’s original art and represent a minority of the work displayed. Artists may sell their own note cards. No reselling, crafts, or other mass produced items will be allowed.
Lodging/Transportation
Neither lodging nor transportation is provided.
Awards
Cash prize awards for the Plein Air Contest are as follows:
1st Place - $ 1,000
2nd Place - $ 500
3rd Place - $ 250
Honorable mention - $ 100 (2 winners)
People’s Choice - $ 100 (1 winner)
There are no awards for the Artist Spaces.
Calendar
1. Artists may submit up to three (3) examples of their past work online between May 1 and October 6, 2016 to be considered for entry into the event.
2. Notifications on acceptance into the event/contest will be sent out within ten (10) days of submission.
3. Approved Plein Air Contest participants may have up to eight (8) canvases (or papers) stamped at the Tustin Parks and Recreation Department at Tustin City Hall (300 Centennial Way) starting Wednesday, October 12 at 8:00 am.
4. Plein Air contest entries must be painted on-site in Old Town Tustin between Wednesday, October 12 and Friday, October 14.
5. All Plein Air Contest entries must be submitted to the judging area at the Tustin Art Walk in Old Town Tustin on Saturday, October 15 at 1:00 pm. Judging will be conducted at 3:00 pm and winners will be announced at 4:00 pm.
6. Plein Air Artists may pick up their contest entries by 5:30 pm on October 15.
Presentation of Entry
All Plein Air Contest entries must be unsigned and framed and artists must provide their own easel for display.
Artist Spaces are approximately 5’ x 10’. There are a limited number of spaces available. Not all spaces will accommodate a 10’x10’ canopy. Prior approval is required for artists setting up a canopy. All umbrellas/canopies must be in good condition. Artists are responsible for supplying their own exhibit set-up which includes: umbrella/canopy (if approved), chairs, tables, and display materials. Artists are responsible for set up and tear down of their spaces. Spaces will be on hard surfaces. No electricity is provided. Artists must remain in attendance at their space throughout the event.

Artists agree to release and hold harmless the City of Tustin, or any of its members or agents, and/or the owner or managers of the grounds or location where this event is held, from any loss, damage, or injury resulting from participation in the event. Further, artists agree to allow images of their work to be utilized by the City of Tustin for promotional purposes.
