International Plein Air Challenge

EVENT:
Artists from around the world are offered this unique and prestigious opportunity. The contest rewards the top artist with a $500 cash award and also the opportunity to jury the 13th Annual ARC International Salon Plein Air Competition sponsored by California Plein Air Painters. Other top artists will receive cash awards, merchandise awards and exposure of their work through partnerships with prestigious magazines, galleries, and web sites. The most prestigious realist art competition in the Americas, and perhaps the world, the International ARC Salon offers over $100,000 in cash awards and international recognition. Jurors are extensively promoted on the ARC International Salon website.

March 25-August 9, 2016
EXHIBIT DATES:
Sept 16, 2016 – Nov 15, 2017. The exhibit is also part of the Monterey County Open Studios Tour.
EXHIBIT LOCATION: Monterey Bay Artisans Gallery, American Tin Cannery 125 Ocean View Boulevard, Pacific Grove, CA 93950. The gallery is conveniently located across the street from the Monterey Bay Aquarium overlooking Monterey Bay.
COMMISSIONS:
Commissions shall be paid 70% to the Artist; 22.5% to the Gallery; 7.5% to California Plein Air Painters.
ARTIST RECEPTION: September 23, 2016 on the Cannery Row in Monterey, California. Further details will be provided upon acceptance.
ARTWORK DROP-OFF: Wednesday, September 9 - 14, 2016; 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Monterey Bay Artisans Gallery.
***If artists cannot drop-off accepted artwork in person during the designated date and time, artwork must be shipped.***
SHIPPING INFORMATION: Out-of-town shipments MUST arrive by September 14, 2016. Artists will be responsible for the cost of crating, handling, and shipping artwork to and from the exhibition. Further shipping information will be provided upon acceptance
ARTWORK PICK-UP: November 16-18, 2016; 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Monterey Bay Artisans Gallery
***If artists cannot pick up accepted artwork in person during the designated dates and time, artwork must be shipped.***
ELIGIBILITY:
Plein air artists residing anywhere in the world are welcome to apply. You do not need to be a member of CPAP to apply. Submitted artwork must be plein air pieces and not exceed 400 square inches in size (not including frame). Artwork must be representational, 2D artwork. No abstracts or sculptures.
MEDIUM:
Oil, watercolor, dry pastel or acrylic. No drawings, pen and ink or sketches will be considered.
ENTRY FEES:
$35 for the first image. Additional images may be added for $15 per image. There is no limit to the number of images.
NOTIFICATIONS:
Artists will be notified via email on or before August 31, 2016.
JURORS:
Artwork will be juried by a panel consisting of Signature Members of the California Plein Air Painters. You can learn more about the jurors by clicking HERE.
IMAGES:
Entry form must be filled out in its entirety, including unframed dimensions (or size), framed dimensions (if not known, estimate it) or weight, medium, and price, if requested. List sizes up to the nearest half inch. Submitted images must not include matting or frame. Crop the photos to include only the artwork. Be sure your images are right-side-up.
For best results, make sure your image is 1920 pixels @72 dpi on the longest side. Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space. The Art Renewal Center has over 30,000 members and their website receives over 5 million visits annually. California Plein Air Painters is a sponsor of the 2017 ARC International Salon.

Jurors are heavily publicized on the websites of CPAP and the ARC International Salon.In addition, 4 Honorable Mention Awards will be named and will appear on both the CPAP website and the Art Renewal Center website. Accepted artwork will be published online.
ATTENDANCE:
Jurying on behalf of the ARC International Salon is performed online. Services will be required in September, 2017 or slightly before or after. Jurors must be in place by the start of next year’s ARC International Salon (January or February 2017). Artists exhibiting in galleries or other venues are not required to attend but will receive an invitation to RSVP as well as information on exhibit and shipping dates.
