Pikes Peak Pastel Society presents the 

Color in Quarantine

A National Exhibit

 

 

 

 

We invite all artists who reside in the US, and who create original fine art in soft (dry) pastel to submit their artwork to our juried Pikes Peak Pastel Society National Pastel Exhibition:  Color in Quarantine.  Entries to this exhibit begin on June 15, 2020 and end on August 22, 2020.  Artwork selected by the juror into the exhibition will be shown in the online exhibition hosted by onlinegalleryshows.com beginning on September 11, 2020, ending on October 30, 2020.  Entries juried into the show will be shown and offered for sale on onlinegalleryshows.com and also be shown on the Pikes Peak Pastel Society website (www.pikespeakpastel.org).

 

Eligibility

Entries are open to all artists who paint using soft pastel.  (80% of the piece entered must be soft (dry) pastel; no oil pastels.)

 

There is no limit to the size of the painting but the artist must be willing to ship the painting safely and securely if it sells. No nudes, giclée prints, or digital artwork; no works created under supervision (workshop or class) are eligible.

 

Artwork may be displayed with frames and light, neutral mats; no colored mats allowed. Frames and/or mats are not required.  Artwork displayed in any previous PPPS juried exhibitions is not eligible. All work must have been created in the last two years.   Artwork must be original – no work copied from published work, copyrighted images or photos taken by anyone other than the artist without permission.

 

 Selection is not guaranteed.  The juror has the final decision and reserves the right to reject any piece.  Art work will not be removed during the course of the exhibit. No substitutions will be allowed after jurying process is complete. 

 

Fees

Entry fees are $35 for up to 3 paintings for PPPS members.  Entry fees for nonmembers are $50 for up to 3 paintings. 

 

All entries must be for sale.  Payment will be made directly by the buyer to onlinegalleryshows.com.  A 20% commission will be withheld from each sale and distributed as follows: 13% to onlinegalleryshows.com and 7% to Pikes Peak Pastel Society. The artist will receive the remaining after the show closes.

 

Shipping Sold Items

 

By entering artwork in this show, the artist agrees to ship any items that sell through the show directly to the purchaser within one week upon the conclusion of the show.  The artist agrees to ship such items safely and securely in a manner where receipt of the item is documented by the entity executing the shipping (e.g., United States Postal Service, Federal Express, United Parcel Service, etc.) at the sole expense of the artist.  Sale prices should take shipping costs into account.

 

Entering Your Images

Entry for all artwork will be at OnlineJuriedShows.com.  Entry form must be filled out in its entirety, including unframed dimensions (or size), framed dimensions (if applicable; if not known, estimate it), medium, and price.  List sizes up to the nearest half inch.  Submitted images must not include matting or frame.  Crop the photos to include only the artwork.  Be sure your images are right side up.

 

For best results, make sure your image is 1920 pixels @72 dpi on the longest side.  Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space.  Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at: www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx.  If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please email Help@OnlineJuriedShows.com.

 

Juror

 

 We are very excited to have Lorenzo Chavez, pastel and oil artist of Parker, Colorado as our juror.      

 

Lorenzo Chavez was born in New Mexico.  His inherited connection to the colorful and historic Southwest as well as seeing the Taos Society of Artists works as a young boy was the catalyst for his art career.  He graduated with honors from the Colorado Institute of Art in 1983 and continued his art education at the newly founded Arts Students League of Denver starting in 1987.  Lorenzo and his wife Dolores currently live in Parker, Colorado.

 

Chavez  has been an active professional fine artist for 35 years He participates in many national invitational group exhibitions including the Pastel Society of America at The National Arts Club in New York City, Artists of America Show in Denver, Plein Air Painters of America, American Impressionist Society, California Art Club Gold Medal Exhibitions, Albuquerque Art Museum, Gilcrease Museum, Butler Art Museum, Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, The Brinton Museum, The Booth Museum, The Yellowstone Art Museum , Buffalo Bill Art Museum, The Steamboat Art Museum,  The Taos Art Museum,  The Laguna Art Museum, Cape Cod Art Museum, The Leigh Yawke Museum, Hockaday Art Museum Montana, Yellowstone Art Museum, Colorado History Museum, Artist of the West Exhibitions- Featured Artist  Pioneer Museum Colorado Springs, A.R.Mitchell Museum, Coors Western Art Show in Denver, Trailside Galleries, Legacy Gallery and Settlers West Gallery, Blue Rain Gallery, Invitationals.  In addition, he was featured in a successful on-man show at the C.M. Russell Museum.  He has participated successfully in several C.M. Russell Art Auctions and Coeur d’Alene Art Auctions.  His work is featured in articles in Southwest Art, Artists of the West, Pastel Journal, American Artist and Art-Talk. Books include, Pure Pastel 1&2, Pratique de Arts France, Colorado Landscapes.

 

Chavez was raised in Albuquerque and has an affection for the surrounding vicinity.  He has many fond memories of time spent hiking and running in these areas and feels that it was a major influence in his decision to become a landscape painter.

 

His suggestive renderings and fluent technique in both Oil and Pastel have earned him numerous awards and many devoted collectors throughout the United States and he is considered by many to be the west’s premier pastel painter.  He has been the recipient of awards and honors from such notable groups at the Pastel Society of America, California Art Club, American Impressionist Society, The Russell Art Auction, numerous pastel societies across the United States. Society de Pastelists France, the C.M. Russell Auction, and Artists of the West Pioneer Museum.  

 

Chavez is an active member of. Northwest Rendezvous of Art, Past Signature member of The Plein Air Painters of America, Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America, Signature Member of the California Art Club Signature Member, American Impressionist Society, and the Pastel Society of Spain.

 

Chavez’s work is featured in six galleries in the United States and is included in many prominent Private National and International, Corporate, University, and Museum Collections such as The Western History Collection in the Denver Public Library, Hockaday Art Museum Montana Koshare Museum in La Junta Colorado nationally and internationally.

 

                     

Awards

 

$500 in cash:  Best of Show: $250; 1st Place: $150; 2nd Place: $100.  Two Honorable Mentions and the People’s Choice Award will receive ribbons.
