ABOUT THE EXHIBITION:
Plein Air Washington Artists (PAWA) is sponsoring a juried exhibit, The Structural Element, to be hosted by The American Art Company, Tacoma, WA. This is a large gallery space where the exhibition will showcase plein air paintings and studio paintings derived from the plein air pieces or the plein air experience. Each artist may submit up to three sets of a plein air and studio painting combination or 2 plein air paintings 14 x 18 or larger may be substituted for one of the combination sets. A total of 6 paintings may be entered in any combination of small plein air/Studio paintings or larger plein air paintings to make the total of 6. Sold works are not to be submitted. All works submitted for jurying into the show must be available for the show and sale
CALENDAR FOR THE EXHIBITION:
- Entry deadline: October 27, 2019
- Acceptance notice: November 8, 2019
- Delivery of Artwork: November 22 - 23 or November 26 - 27, 2019 - 10 AM to 5PM
- Show dates: December 7, 2019 – February 1, 2020
- Opening Reception and Awards Presentation: Saturday, December 7, 2019 from 2 PM to 5 PM Exhibition
- Closing: February 1, 2020
- Closing Celebration: Saturday, February 1, 3 to 5 PM
- Pick-up unsold painting: February 1 after Closing Celebration or February 4, 2020--10 AM-5 PM
EACH ENTRY FORMAT:
YOU MUST SPECIFY IF THE PIECE IS PLEIN AIR PAINTING OR STUDIO PAINTING. YOU CAN SELECT THE CATEGORY WHEN YOU ENTER YOUR PIECE OR ADD THE INFORMATION TO YOUR TITLE OR DESCRIPTION IN YOUR ARTIST PROFILE.
Each entry should contain a structural element in the landscape either man made or natural.
Entries will be made by digital images at 72 dpi with the longest side at 1920 pixels.
Each entry consists of:
- One plein air painting: Minimum painting size 6x8, Maximum painting size 14x18 (not including frame).
- One studio painting derived from the plein air painting or the location where it was painted: Minimum size 14x18 and Maximum size 48x48 (not including frame).
(Each artist may submit three entry combinations of a plein air and a studio paintings for a maximum total of 6 paintings. A maximum of two entries or 4 paintings per artist will be exhibited)
Or
- Plein air paintings 14 x 18 or larger may be submitted for a maximum total of six larger plein air paintings. A maximum of 4 paintings per artist will be exhibited.
Or
- A combination of plein air/studio and 14x18 or larger paintings for a total of six paintings may be submitted. A maximum of 4 paintings per artist will be exhibited.
As each entry is reviewed during the entry process, include information about the painting in the DESCRIPTION text box. This information will be used for the book publication and can include location, inspiration or incidental observations or happenings during the painting experience.
PUBLICATIONS:
- By entering this exhibition, the artist gives permission for PAWA to use the images of each painting for publications which include postcards, catalogs and a 2019 volume of the Washington En Plein Air book.
- Images of paintings both accepted and not accepted are included in the Washington En Plein Air book.
- Please include a biography in your profile at Online Juried Shows which can be used in PAWA publications.
ENTRY FEES: Entries submitted must be available for show and sale. Artists may submit up to 6 images. The fee is $40 for the initial entry. A fee of $5 will be charged for each additional entry or $5 per image for a maximum total of $65. All entries must be submitted through www.onlinejuriedshows.com. Entry fees will be paid at onlinejuriedshows.com when entering the exhibition.
EXHIBITION RULES:
- Paintings must contain some subject that includes a Structural Element such as a building or manmade structure or a natural structure such as cliffs or emphasize the structure of a natural element.
- There will be no exceptions for deadlines, specifications or rules.
- Open to all artists 18 years and older who are a current member of Plein Air Washington Artists or the $30 membership fee must be paid in advance of entering the show. Visit www.pleinairwashingtonartists.com
- Original art painted en plein air (on location) and studio paintings derived from the plein air paintings or experience will be accepted. Paintings created in a workshop or while under the instruction of another artist are ineligible.
- All entries are to be made at www.OnlineJuriedShows.com using digital images of the paintings. Each image should be 72 dpi, 1920 pixels on the longest side of the image.
- Digital images are assumed to be accurate representations of the entrant’s original art works.
- Paintings must be for sale and priced at $300 (retail) minimum. Any artwork priced below the show minimum will automatically have its price increased.
- All artwork must be suitably framed and ready to hang with strong wire and flat metal hangers.
- A 50% commission is retained by the Gallery.
- Accepted artists will receive an email with more detailed information about delivery of artwork and reminders of pertinent dates of the event.
- Accepted entries may be displayed in an online gallery with sales associated with the gallery exhibition.
- Submission of entries grants PAWA permission to include image or images in advertising for the exhibition and inclusion in the next volume of Washington En Plein Air.
- Entries must include a short description of the plein air experience including the location and/or the experience of painting there.
- Submission of entries and entry fee constitute agreement with all conditions set forth in this prospectus.
ABOUT THE JURY FOR ENTRIES:
A jurying committee consisting of two selected members of PAWA and three non-members either professional artists, curators or gallery owners will jury the entries. The decision of the jury is final. There is no refund of entry fees for unaccepted entries.

ELIGIBILITY / REQUIREMENTS/FEES: Must be a current member 18 years or older and or the 2019 membership dues of $30 must be paid before entering the show.
RESPONSIBILITIES/LIABILITIES:
- All reasonable care will be taken with paintings and submissions. PAWA, its officers, volunteers and the American Art Company shall not be held responsible for the loss and damage to paintings, frames or digital entries..
- Insurance for any loss or damage to artwork is the sole responsibility of the participating artist.
- The artist grants permission to reproduce work for publicity purposes, both in print and digital galleries. Copyright will be attributed to the artist.
- By entering the show, you agree that you have read and will abide by all rules outlined in this prospectus. Entry into this exhibition constitutes agreement with all conditions set forth in this prospectus and is your commitment to participate.

A painter, lecturer, inventor and world traveler Bryan Mark Taylor is a true renaissance man. As a painter, Bryan has won numerous top awards at the nation’s most prestigious plein air invitationals and his work has been shown in museums across the country. He has been featured in Fine Art Connoisseur, Plein Air Magazine, Southwest Art, American Art Collector, Imagine FX and American Artist Workshop magazines.
Bryan has had many successful one man shows and has been featured in numerous group shows including the Coors Western Art and recently won a gold medal at the California Art Club’s Gold Medal show. Bryan is represented by galleries in California, Colorado and Utah and his work is found in private, corporate and museum collections around the world. Bryan has traveled around the globe carefully observing and capturing nature’s everyday miracles. Bryan was born in Portland, Oregon. He received his BA from Brigham Young University in 2001 and his MFA from the Academy of Art University in 2005. He currently lives with his wife and four children in Alpine, Utah.
