JUROR – Vanessa Lemen

Vanessa Lemen is a painter who lives and works in Carlsbad, CA. Her work has shown in galleries and exhibitions nationwide and is in private collections internationally.  She is represented by Rehs Contemporary Galleries in NYC, and her work can also be found at the online gallery EveryDayOriginal.com and IXgallery.com.

She and her husband, Ron, together run an online program, Lemenaid.com, instructing art and mentoring artists, as well as instructing at workshops in various locations across the country, including The Fantastic Workshop with One Fantastic Week, and yearly week-long intensive creative excursions with Legendeer.

Described through metaphorical imagery, it's excerpted from her personal journey and reflection that she credits most as the inspiration for her work, and rolling with the unexpected as the very nature of her process. Each piece she creates seems to come from a chaos, and in it, she is able to create a place of reflection and curiosity, a balance of the deep-seated and the unknown, with areas of rest and of movement that intertwines to form a calm amid the chaos.

CALL FOR ENTRIES – DEADLINE:
SUNDAY, January 6, 2019:  Entry cutoff

Artwork will be juried using digital images (jpgs) through Online Juried Shows:  http://www.onlinejuriedshows.com/

Submitted artwork reflects the artist’s interpretation of the theme, “BLUE”
We are looking for artwork that reflects the artist’s interpretation of any subject enhanced through the use of the color or emotion BLUE.  The use of Blue in the work has no required framework---from a completely blue image to a single BLUE dot---the decision is for the artist alone.  The color BLUE can convey many emotions and feelings; beauty, cold, love, material, ice, melancholy, and political are some examples.   BLUE may define a focal point that carries the viewer more deeply into the message or it may bring the viewer closer emotionally to a way which magnifies and reinforces their feelings about the artwork.  All submissions, which can be expressed from representational to abstract, are welcome.

ELIGIBILITY:  The California Art League Exhibit, “Blue” is an open exhibit, open to all artists located anywhere in the United States.  Membership dues for 2019 must be paid in full (on the CAL website.)  First time new members only will pay a discounted 2019 membership fee of $25.00. This can be done on the CAL web site under the “Join Us” tab on the home page.  Read that section carefully.   If their work is accepted into the exhibit by the juror, they become exhibiting members of CAL.

TOTAL NUMBER OF PIECES ACCEPTED IN GALLERY AND PER ARTIST:  In the gallery, up to sixty-2D WORKS NOT OVER 30” WIDE and UP TO ten-3D WORKS NOT OVER 30” WIDE will be accepted.    Due to the space limitations in the gallery, no more than three works from any   artist will be on view.

All work should be framed or canvas edges should be painted if no frame.

Metal or neutral narrow wood frames

ENTRY SIZES AND FEES

Entries will be made on line to Online Juried Showshttp://www.onlinejuriedshows.com/

Artwork submissions are limited to five (5) original artworks per artist in the following media: drawing, mixed media, painting, photography and sculpture. Size limits:  Paintings and other 2D work is limited 30” wide.  Sculptures, 30” X 30” footprint.  (no weight limits, but sculptor must move work).

One or two entries: $40.00 for CAL members in good standing.  New members only add $25 for 2019 membership..one time only.
Entrants may enter additional artwork for an additional $5 each up to a total of 5 entries. Payment is made through Juried Online Shows via credit card or Pay Pal.  Fees are non-refundable. There is no guarantee of acceptance into the show.

FORMAT FOR DIGITAL IMAGES (JPGS) AND HOW TO SEND THEM   All entries must be submitted in a digital JPEG format.  Take with a digital camera.  If the background cannot be completely cropped out, take photo on a black background without a mat and not through glass. Image quality is critical: Poor photography and presentation may affect acceptance by the juror. The digital image must represent the painting.

If your 2D work has special details that your primary (overall) image cannot properly display, you may enter the work as a 3D work instead.  Then you can include 1 or 2 supplemental images of details to show these special qualities.  The other information about size and medium will clearly indicate it is really a 2D work, so there will not be any ambiguity about what it actually is.
Artwork which involves motion is difficult to show properly on OJS so brief video clips of said artwork can be sent via email to Margie Murray  at: Paintergal@gmail.com for forwarding to the juror.

Directions for submitting work to Juried Online Shows is clearly described on the website in several topics listed on the sidebar of the main page:

http://www.onlinejuriedshows.com/HowToEnter.aspx
