3rd annual “Little Gems” juried art show

Please read thoroughly, as the prospectus and timelines have changed substantially since last year. The show will run for one month and there will no longer be alternates. This is a juried art show. Accredited fine artists, gallery owners, and/or influential members of the plein air community outside of PAWA will pre-judge entries for acceptance into the show. A renowned artist is selected each year to be the juror of awards at the opening. Anacortes and the Scott Milo Gallery are well-known to the patrons of the arts. It is with great pleasure that we continue this exhibit of the finest small works from Plein Air Washington members each year!

Closing Ceremony (June 30, 3-5pm) $100 – People’s Choice
DATES -
March 8 - April 24 - Entries will be open to submit online
April 24, midnight - Deadline for entries
May 1 - Acceptance announcements emailed
May 29 - Accepted art must arrive at Scott Milo Gallery between 11am-2pm. Please read Accepted art below for further information.
June 1 - Opening ceremony and awards. Awards at 4pm, artist reception 5-6, public reception and Artwalk, 6-9pm
June 30 - Closing Ceremony 3-5pm. Unsold art may be picked up at closing
July 3 - Final date for unsold art to be picked up, between 11am-2pm.
JUDGE - Michele Usibelli
Michele is an award-winning artist with a strong foundation in the Russian Impressionist tradition. Although her work is mostly in oils, her individualistic style is also represented in acrylic, gouache and pastel. Nicholai Fechin, John Singer Sargent and William Merritt Chase were some of her greatest influences, holding her to the highest standards of quality in each painting she creates. After the Little Gems show opens, Michele will be conducting a workshop in the area. Unfortunately, it has already sold out with a wait list. Contact Karen Bakke at thebakkegallery@gmail.com if you would like to be added to the list.
ENTRY FEES -
You may enter up to six pieces of art, but only up to three (3) will be accepted into the show, in total.
$35 for the first three entries, $8 for each entry after, up to six (6) total entries. Entries will only be accepted through onlinejuriedshows.com. The non-refundable fees will be charged when entering your art.
Eligibility and requirements -
- To be eligible to participate in the show, you must be a member of Plein Air Washington Artists. If you are not currently a member, please go to www.pleinairwashington.com to sign up. Basic annual membership is $30, advertising members are $60.
- This is a small works show. Art must be 11x14 (or a total of 154 square inches) or smaller. This does not include frame size.
- Entry is open to traditional two-dimensional paintings of all genre, plein air or studio. Please, no digital art or photography.
- There is no timeline on when the art was created.
- It CANNOT be of art that has been accepted and hung into the Little Gems show or in the Scott Milo Gallery in the past.
- All art must be available for sale. There will be a 50% commission to the gallery on items sold.
Entering your images:
For best results, make sure your image is 1920 pixels @72 dpi on the longest side. Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space. Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at: www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx. Accepted Art -
-Must be received at Scott Milo Gallery May 29, 2018 between 11am-2pm. The gallery prefers that artists do not all bring their art to the gallery on that date, so PAWA members in different locations outside the immediate area will be available to receive your art. You will be notified of those people in the acceptance letter. If you need to ship art, send to Karen Bakke, 8106 Garden of Eden Road, Sedro Woolley, WA 98284. NO art is to be shipped directly to the gallery.
- Must be suitably framed or gallery-wrapped and ready to hang with wire to gallery-quality standards. If you’d like to have your work framed at the Scott Milo Gallery, you may do so under your own arrangements. PAWA and Scott Milo Gallery reserve the right not to hang accepted art if it does not meet standard gallery-quality standards.

As of 2018, there will no longer be alternative art selected, as the show is now one month, instead of two. Artists will be responsible for retrieving, or making arrangements for retrieval of their art, at the end of the show.
Responsibilities/Liabilities -
All reasonable care will be taken with paintings and submissions. PAWA, its officers, volunteers and the Scott Milo Gallery shall not be held responsible for the loss and damage to paintings, frames or digital entries.
By entering the show, you agree that you have read and will abide by all rules outlined in this prospectus; you understand and agree with this statement.
Insurance for any loss or damage to artwork is the sole responsibility of the participating artist.
The artist grants permission to reproduce work for publicity purposes, both in print and digital galleries. This permission includes use of images and supporting information in our blog, on our website or other means of promotion. Copyright will be attributed to the artist. Entry into this exhibition constitutes agreement with all conditions set forth in this prospectus and is your commitment to participate.
