ROBERT CARSTEN

With over four decades of teaching experience, Robert Carsten is a master pastelist in the Pastel Society of America and master circle artist in the International Association of Pastel Societies. He has written numerous articles for Pastel Journal and the Artist’s Magazine and has been featured in many publications. He was invited to China as part of a team of international artists teaching Chinese teachers pastel so they can introduce it into their classrooms. Robert will be giving two demonstrations at the 2017 IAPS international conference in Albuquerque, NM. Visit his website: www.robertcarsten.com

  

Judge of Awards
JACOB AGUIAR
Jacob Aguiar is a nationally recognized pastel artist living in Scarborough, ME with his wife Laura and Bernese Mountain Dog Bernie.  He splits his time between painting inspiring local landscapes and practicing naturopathic medicine in Portsmouth, NH.  He has won several pastel awards including awards in the 2015, 2016, and 2017 Pastel 100 competitions, and Best of Show at the 2016 Pastel Society of New Hampshire annual exhibition.  A signature member of the Pastel Society of America and professional artist member of the Copley Society, he is currently teaching regular classes in Westbrook, ME, as well as workshops throughout the country. Opening Reception and Presentation of Awards:  Saturday, June 24, 2017 at 6:00 pm, Cultural Center of Cape Cod

WORK ELIGIBLE
Submission of entries is open to all pastelists. Paintings must be entirely the work of the submitting artist. Paintings copied from others’ work, from published material, or from photographs taken by another are not eligible. Paintings done under supervision, such as a workshop or class, are not eligible.

Other guidelines include that the painting:
• Is at least 80% soft pastels; no oil pastels,
• was created within the last three years,
• has not previously been shown in any PPSCC exhibition,
• has not previously been shown at the Cultural Center,
• is not larger than 48” in any direction, framed size,
• if mats are used they must be clean,
• no saw-tooth hangers.

PPSCC reserves the right to refuse any painting that does not meet these professional standards. Return of such paintings will occur at the artist’s expense.  All paintings must be on sale to the public at a fair price set by the artist with a 40% commission paid to the venue/PPSCC.

ENTERING YOUR IMAGES
Artists may submit up to 5 images of paintings online at OnlineJuriedShows.com.  Only one painting per artist may be accepted into the show.

Entry form must be filled out in its entirety.  List sizes up to the nearest inch.  Submitted images must not include matting or frame.  Crop the photos to include only the artwork.  Be sure your images are right-side-up.

Before uploading your images, make sure they are smaller than 4MB, but at least 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi.  Images should be in JPEG format, sRGB color space.  Help in photographing your work and properly sizing your images can be found at:  www.OnlineJuriedShows.com/help.aspx.  If you need help entering your images or are unable to, please write to us here:  www.onlinejuriedshows.com/Contact.aspx.

NOTIFICATION  OF ACCEPTANCE
An email will be sent to the address provided in your submission on or before April 14, 2017.  Artists whose work is juried into the show will receive additional information.

ENTRY FEES
There is a limit of 5 entries per artist. Payment is made online at time of submissions. Show criteria specify any one artist will have one painting accepted into this show, regardless of the number entered for judging.

Current PPSCC Membership dues must be paid in full to receive the members rate and entry fees are non-refundable and must be paid by the entry deadline.

Up to 3 paintings may be submitted @ $35 PPSCC Members, $45 Non-Members plus an additional 2 @ $10/each.
Example:  Member enters 3 = $35;  4 = $45,  5 = $55;  Non-Member 3 = $45,  4 = $55,  5 = $65.

FPO AWARDS
We anticipate at least $5,000 in cash awards and merchandise, as well as donations from other pastel societies. Additional awards and/or changes will be listed in the show program.

DELIVERY OF ACCEPTED WORK Drop Off of Artwork
Hand delivery of work will be received on Sunday, June 18, between 12:00 noon and 3:00 pm at:

SHIPPED ARTWORK
Shipped artwork must arrive by June 10.  Information on shipping will be emailed with notification of acceptance.  Because the size of the show is planned in advance and application requires the artist to follow through if accepted, entrants failing to deliver accepted work will be denied eligibility in the next two “For Pastels Only” exhibitions.

RETURN OF ARTWORK
Hand-delivered artwork must be picked up on Sunday, July 16 between 3:00 and 4:00 pm from the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. PPSCC is not responsible for unclaimed paintings. No work is to be picked up before this time and date. Return of shipped artwork will be postmarked by July 21, 2017.

LIABILITY
Every reasonable precaution will be utilized in the handling, storage, and transportation of all works submitted for the exhibit. Neither PPSCC nor the Cultural Center of Cape Cod as organizations or individuals will be held liable for the loss or damage to paintings, however caused. You may carry independent insurance at your own expense. Your application to this exhibition constitutes agreement with these terms.
